Well I'm disappointed to have to take out the sweet inventions foil Paradox engine from my Urza deck.
But I'm excited about painter's servant. I'd like to know what cards work well with it.
To be honest, painter shines best in vintage and legacy, really. I've been using it in EDH decks for months, and it's been cute to good, but far from backbreaking. enabling blasts are good, making opponent's swords of X and Y fall off is fun, and while grindstone is a thing, make sure your opponent doesn't have progenitus and blightsteel colossus in their deck.

Anything with natural color-based Protection can now effectively have Protection from Anything. Also works for <Color> Ward type auras, but not equipment.

One really janky use i can see working is using flash of insight. exile your yard, then demonic tutor for a card from your deck, and then stack your deck as you choose. It's very useful in 60-card, but not sure how useful it'd be in EDH.
Regarding Iona, it's simple: Any reanimator deck, anything with Kaalia of the Vast, any GW deck with something like Natural Order, hell, any deck with Deathrender, frankly couldn't care less about the mana cost.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

I'm not sure how the rules work here, with 2 intervening 'if' clauses on two separate cards.
well you run or the othe Void or Rest (or even both as a back up if you're crazy) and it's a replacement effect,to stop the creatures from hitting the graveyard thus negating blightsteel colossus and any other shuffle back into library cards.

BSC ad Void/RiP are all replacement effects, the controller of the BSC would choose to exile or shuffle it back.
Hmmmmm I was going to try and use a package of Painter + the REBs to replace my super expensive colorless removal, but now I feel like I would need to cut the All is dust and Ugin to make it not super cheap.
But I'm excited about painter's servant. I'd like to know what cards work well with it.
Grindstone, obviously.
Ugin, the spirit dragon. (Hey I'll remove no counters and blow up everyone's lands, lol)
All is dust.... is a bit nasty.
Dream halls (Hmm, I'll discard a land and cast omniscience)
ravnica at war is interesting. If all your permanents are white then you can choose white as the color and most of everyone else's nonland permanents will be destroyed. Thanks Hermes.
Llawan, cephalid empress. Thanks, Macabre.
omen of fire, tibor and lumia, douse. Thanks, Schweinefett.
What else?
I read that in this tone

One card that actually breaks legacy painter is goblin welder. it's the unsung hero that really makes the synergies sing. So maybe daretti, scrap savant, welder and goblin engineer?
Legacy - Solidarity - mono U aggro - burn - Imperial Painter - Strawberry Shortcake - Bluuzards - bom
Leyline of the Void and Rest in peace say hi
oh then my bad
Teysa, Orzhov Scion - self replacing 1/1 fliers that can be used for her exile ability (partially possible with Darkest Hour)
Red Elemental Blast - 1 mana hardcounter/Vindicate
Pyroblast - 1 mana hardcounter/Vindicate
Blue Elemental Blast - 1 mana hardcounter/Vindicate
Hydroblast - 1 mana hardcounter/Vindicate
Douse - counter any spell for 1U
Lifeforce - counter any spell for GG
Deathgrip - counter any spell for BB
Wash Out - mimic Upheaval
Hibernation - mimic Upheaval
Light of Day - Pacifism the entire board (but already possible with Darkest Hour)
Darigaaz, the Igniter - effectively an extra Sudden Impact when you connect
Rith, the Awakener - ludicrously massive token swarms with exponential growth
Anything with natural color-based Protection can now effectively have Protection from Anything. Also works for <Color> Ward type auras, but not equipment.
Two Score, Minus Two or: A Stargate Tail

Or any of the incarnations, or Nexus of fate, or darksteel colossus...
That's actually pretty fair.
