Okay so y Buddy and I wanted to start Playing 2DH, unfortunately we were unsure in what direction to go exactly since it was only 2 of us who did. We deiced to still go with it and found a third who would agree to play with us now and then. (So if we play, we have our 5 2DH decks to random select and play a game or two before moving to our more finely tuned and less budget friendly decks.)
The issue however is price range. Not that i can't afford t. it is the constrictions for 2DH I found an article saying that 2DH generals can cost up to 5 bucks so Aurelia is in that range. But just because Aurelia works does not mean that the deck is done. I need help finding cheap effective cards that can really push Aurelia into the range of being strong. Mana base will still be pretty basic. Command Tower, Boros Garrison, Boros Guildgate, vivids.
I am obviously wanting this deck t be a little aggro, and I am going to put in one of my infinite combos (Which requires Adarkar Valkyrie and Ashnod's Altar. Both legal in 2DH) but that is pretty much as far as I got. Last time I build Aurelia i was not stuck with the 2 dollar restriction, meaning i could have a bit more fun with some nasty little combos (two of which abuse Kiki-jiki but sadly, the little goblin is outside the legal range to play.
One idea in mind is to just overrun with too many creatures. Maybe some way to be unblockable. Or force blocks on one creature or no blocks at all. Maybe Master Warcraft Maybe a way to give all attacking creatures +x/+X until end of turn each time they attack. (Battle cry is one option.)
Anyway hoping for input to really get this deck rolling. It is not meant to be playing with the big boys, but i Love Aurelia. She is my favorite Boros card in the game so I really want to build a deck with her, without hurting my budget.
I have played a fair bit of aurelia myself, and while I wasn't aware of such a format, budget is usually a primary concern in my playgroup. Things that break aurelia wide open are those which build growth upon combat. If you go for a voltron approach, other than the usual equipment suspects, cards like blood mist get really nasty. However, a go-wide strategy with aurelia probably won't work too well. She is good for it, yes, but since she herself costs 6 and you're restricting yourself to cheaper cards, things like agrus kos, wojek veteran are cheap alternatives and very very good for what they do. Just aurelia and agrus kos getting through is 10 commander and 10 more ground pounder in one turn. Nobilis of war is pretty solid, too. I think it is cheap (could be wrong..don't know where you are getting your prices). I would also focus on things that give you evasion. For example, while I believe hero of bladehold is too expensive, hero of oxid ridge is cheap and very effective at preventing some chump blocks and has battle cry which makes life a lot easier for you. I would likewise consider at least a few ways to increase combat beyond just aurelia. A relentless assault or two (there are several variants like waves of aggression) and those same cards that build upon combat will probably give you the win that turn, against at least one or two opponents.
While I am not sure that it is a good idea, you can use cards like bedlam to prevent blocking altogether. I suspect bruse tarl would be an excellent addition, too. Maybe even a few equipment that trigger on attack would make godo, bandit warlord a good addition to fetch a few equipment, and he himself is ALSO a trigger of an extra combat. I think he should be cheap enough with the reprint in the breya deck for commander.
while some are more tahn 2 bucks that is helpful (i didn;t even look at relenetless assault as I thought it was more than 2 bucks. (was mistaking it for aggravated assault)
I apologize, I missed my math earlier for the agrus kos, wojek veteran and aurelia combo. With two combats, it turns into 12 commander and 12 ground pounder (because agrus triggers on attack and he would attack twice). If you have that blood mist or similar out (there are a ton in red/white, even at the lower rarities), that's a one hit commander kill. If you do find a way to keep at least three creatures active, then tajic, blade of the legion is amazing. He goes from 2 to 7 with three creatures is pretty solid. Once that second combat hits ,he goes to 12/12, and he had already dealt 9...that's nuts. There are a ton of creatures and affects that trigger on combat for growth effects. Also, don't discount the tappers to give effects, since aurelia untaps all creatures you control.
Well, it appears that Deflecting Palm, Psychotic Fury, Dawn Charm, and some printings of Boros Charm are in the 2DH price range. I suggest these not so much because they push Aurelia over the edge, but because they are so useful.
Cheers!
