With the recent banlist update containing no new banned cards/generals I've decided to indeed finish writing up and creating the derevi deck. I have staples ranging from mana drain to gaea's cradle for example, just to point out the cutthroat nature I am aiming for. I also have several other super cutthroat derevi cards such as all the winter orb effects and various soft-locks like crackdown etc.
My question, and reason for creating this thread, is to ask the Derevi owners what they think of gaddock teeg. Looking at all the various primers, all the more cutthroat ones utilize Teeg and build around him, and it has made me wonder a few things, such as:
1. Is it really worth creating your whole deck around Teeg? Theres some seriously good spells for 4 and 5 cmc that make me somewhat confused why this could be a good idea?
2. is there something I'm missing? In developed metas wouldn't teeg be countered/doom bladed instantly?
I'm just wondering if teeg is powerful enough to warrant dropping these and other 4+cmc non-creature spells just for him alone. Anybody got any opinions/experience on this?
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.

Here are a few of the 4+ cmc non-creature spells I was considering running if I didn't run teeg:
Nature's will / bear umbra / Teferi, Temporal archmage: thrive through all the mana denial
Treachery: Untap all lands like gaea's cradle, karoos, etc
land equilibrium / rising waters : Additional mana denial
You get the point.
