Thoughts on this card? Seems like it could possibly be a weak form of a third Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile but I also see a lot of drawbacks... since it can't exile non-attacking utility creatures, and it makes it kinda obvious.
I might be adding it into my Ertai, the Corrupted deck though, so I need some thoughts! Thanks
In most cases I have found that it serves the same role as ghostly prison in that some people will be less likely to attack you, I run it in any deck that has W, i like it.
Good rattlesnake, plus it is much easier for white to get multiple uses out of this than Path/Swords, as you have access to multiple ways to recur permanents/enchantments.

It is a really good card because it's obvious. As Golden said, it's a rattlesnake, and people will often avoid swinging at you if it's on the field. I wouldn't use a removal slot for it though.

If combo should die before I wake I'll slide a Smokestack in every deck I play, roll in every shop wreck the Spirit of EDH.
I use it in my Sigarda, Host of Herons enchantress. At best its an extra enchantment to draw cards off of, then no one wants to attack me. At worst, its in the graveyard and a big threat is removed. Win/win really.
It's a pretty good pillow fort card. Combine it with Propaganda and Ghostly Prison and people will be like..."4 mana per creature AND I will have a creature exiled? No thanks."
It also won't be the most threatening enchantment at the table most of the time so people will be content to leave it there and just not attack you instead of wasting removal on it.
I've been testing with it in Pristaxcontrombmodruu and I've been happy with it so far.
A friend told me it's a terrible card because it only works once.
I said "If three people don't attack me for two turns because of it, did it really only work once?"
Exactly. Your friend is missing the entire point of the card. It's point isn't to use it once. It's point is to sit on the board and create a situation where you don't have to use it while you buy time to do other stuff.
In the end it comes down to what your playgroup looks like in terms of whether you run it or not. If your playgroup has a fair amount of aggro then run the card. If your playgroup has a lot of combo that doesn't mind waiting to assemble its pieces you may not want to run the card.
I'd make it slightly more narrow and only use it in decks that have cards like you mentioned. Another poster mentioned Ertai. That's another good excuse to use this card. I use it in my Rafiq deck. It's also a strong enchantment themed deck with enchantresses and plenty of enchant tutors.
In a standard white deck without other context? No I wouldn't use it. I would use Condemn over Soul Snare in a vacuum. And Condemn isn't even that good compared to Plow or Path.

I agree with this, and I've taken to using Oust over Condemn.

As a single use card, it's more a rattle snake than anything, so not entirely useful.
