I'm about to replace Teneb, the Harvester with Karador, Ghost Chieftain as the general of my BWG deck. That made me realize that I own at least one copy of each of the Planar Chaos dragon legends.
So I started to think about a deck with a 5-color general where each of the 5 wedge dragon legends is a "colonel" in charge of a division of troops in their own color identity. Then I thought about taking it even farther and having dual-color "captains" under them.
So I think that would be 5 Colonels * 3 Captains each * 2 Soldiers under each Captain = 30 soldiers. Then 5 colonels and 15 captains makes 50 total creature cards, plus the general. That would fit into a deck but doesn't leave much room for other stuff.
Then I started thinking about calling the deck Seven Nation Army, except that I have only five divisions. So my (still under consideration) solution to that was to create a hybrid division led by Reaper King and a colorless division led by an Eldrazi or a powerful artifact creature. (This idea may not work due to space concerns.)
The hope would be to have the Captains and Soldiers in each division be thematically or mechanically related to their respective Colonels.
Scion seems like the obvious choice for a five color dragon deck, but with other options being included I am not sure. I mean, with only 100 slots available (and for a five color deck we could safely assume that at least 38, if not 40 of those slots are mana/mana rocks) going with seven divisions seems stretched super thin. How many cards would you want per division?
EDIT: Doh, noticed you already wrote that. Still.
In the end the deck seems like it would be stretched thin, and the idea of having divisions that, let's face it, would rarely go "into battle" together due to the random nature of singleton deck shuffling, may cause the deck to be a little on the wild side.
you got the math wrong. the 30 cards are only for the soldiers. you still need the 5 coloners, and 15 captains. So thats 50 all in all. Also there is an overlap of colors so you need to recount again.
Well that's a challenge i gladly participate in.
Colonel: Intet (Urg) the Scouting Division = Card-Draw-Information
Lieutenant 1: Edric (Ug)
Lieutenant 2: Niv-Mizzet (Ur)
Soldiers 1.1 and 1.2: Arcanis (U) and Reki (G)
Soldiers 2.1 and 2.2: Tomorrow (U) and Adamaro (R)

Well I'm not super-worried about the overlap of colors, as I figured the UG card under Intet would be different in theme than the UG card under Vorosh for example.
I did forget about figuring in the colonels and captains though. Total brain fart so I might have to abandon the seven divisions part.
The theme sounds awesome on paper but I'm not sure how the physical playing would go. Don't give up until you're sure such a deck won't generate fun EDH adventures.

Yeah, I've thought about that. It's a fun thought experiment if nothing else though, and I can always test it out on Cockatrice before I build it with real cards.
For Teneb (Bwg) i'd say: Army (neverending stream of Jarheads and Gunfodder)
Lieutenant 1: Nath (BG)
Lieutenant 2: Teysa (BW)
Soldiers 1.1 and 1.2: Ezuri (G) and Mikaeus 2.0 (B)
Soldiers 2.1 and 2.2: Endrak Sahr (B) and Darien (W)
Vorosh (Gub) is the Marines-Division (Same as the Army but scarry on their own)
Lieutenant 1: Skullbriar (BG)
Lieutenant 2: Kraaj (GU)
Soldiers 1.1 and 1.2: Jedith 2.0 (G) and Marrow-Gnawer (B)
Soldiers 2.1 and 2.2: Jugan (G) and Lorthos (U)

In search of a foil french Dromar, the Banisher, pm me if you have one you want to part with, also foil Stratadon's.
On Cockatrice that's fine. If I end up building the deck with real cards I don't see myself spending the money for her. Great flavor point though.
