Wrath/Damnation are just good all around cards. they however are colored and only hit critters. The Disk hits everything but land and planeswalkers (I think??) but does not protect against regeneration. Day is a subpar wrath; it allows regeneration too.

with the tap effect people see the disk coming so they tend to not over commit to the board. discard works here.
or else if people aren't playing critters you can go hard with no intention of using the disk. i've had guys where people hold back on their bombs indefinitely.
of course there is always voltaic key if you need to blow the disk immediately.
A deck-building mantra I try to follow is 'two sweepers a deck keep stalemates in check' - while I am not always successful in this endeavor, adhering to this has resulted in stronger decks every time.
To pull this off, though, I use a wide variety of sweepers - among my 60+ decks, I need to use all the variants, if only due to monetary cost (not to mention variety for its own sake).
My favorite sweeper is Wave of Reckoning due to the ease of building around it.
That long digression aside, the warning the Disk provides is dangerous, especially in a MP game (my preferred game). Still, its ability to hit just about anything makes it much stronger than a creature-sweeper, especially post-Scars, where artifacts abound.
In duels - especially tournament duels - you want the best sweepers you can afford; outside of that scenario, try the other ones out and see what happens.
Cheers!

The disk is key to my mono-R "x" deck. As I play multiplayer often it means my
opponent is to afraid to attack into me and gives me those few key turns of delay to draw more burn to kill them.
I'm certain Disk works for MUC, Blue lacks sweepers and can protect disk on the field for at least one turn with all that permission shenanigans
Plus U can use bounce on the disk to save it so it can be replayed for abuse.

For casual, I really, really, really like Austere Command, so insanely flexible. Yes it costs 2 mana extra, but when you play it right, it can make a huge game swing !! + you can sweep away artifacts and/or enchantments too (did I say it was flexible?).
Primary and only casual rule: "any rule that is fine for the most part of the playgroup, is a fine rule". So any further thread with: "if somebody uses/does .... in a casual game, is it ethical/ok?", read the answer above.
- Being a "Johnny/Spike" means you like self-torture. You win often in casual, so everybody hates you; you loose often in competitive, so you hate yourself.
The classics:
Or there's the black version of the classic: Damnation
But what about some lesser known sweepers like Nevinyrral's Disk?
What are the comparative advantages / disadvantages of each?
The most obvious ones are that Wrath can be played on turn 4 whereas the disk is a turn 5 play which can also be removed by artifact hate.
Would you say that Wrath is simply a better card?

the CIPT effect is a bit of a draw back but once again you can play around it.
How do you mean "play around it"?
