I'm wondering if anybody is interested in trying to revamp the Tribal Wars format to make it a relevant 2015 format? The old Tribal Wars format has a stagnant banned list and reflects the reality of 2008 and 2009 not the current card pool.
Here's what I'd like to do with the format:
Deck Construction
60 cards with the normal 4 per restriction unless the card specifically allows more
No Sideboards
Minimum 18 creatures, all with the same race type
Non-creature spells must either be colorless or the color of at least one creature in the list
No manlands unless the creature type is of the race of the list
Legendary cards restricted to one copy in the list
No Planeswalkers
Banned List
All cards that are restricted in Vintage
All cards that are banned in Legacy
Aether Vial
Arboria
Batterskull
Circle of Solace
Dread of Night
Engineered Plague
Extinction
Moat
Night of Soul's Betrayal
Peer Pressure
Perish
Stasis
Sword of Fire and Ice
Sword of Light and Shadow
Sword of Feast and Famine
Sword of Body and Mind
Sword of War and Peace
The Abyss
Tsabo's Decree
Umezawa's Jitte
Whipflare
Banned list to be updated to include other cards that create one-sided situations of a permanent nature as those emerge.
The idea would be to have an interactive format that allowed people to roleplay the leader of a tribe and face off against other players of similar bent. The 18 creature minimum would allow people who want to play removal or destruction heavy lists the chance to do that. Wasteland is not on the banned list because it's a necessary check on the lands that interact in a powerful way with creatures. No Sideboard restriction is to encourage people to build sound lists against the field instead of looking to knock off a particular area of the metagame.
The creature race restriction is to maintain flavor and to somewhat limit the power in multi-color lists. It also guarantees that Affinity will not be a major factor, since the racial types of Affinity's main creatures are all different. Myr will be a possibility but an overpowered Artifact creature list will not.
The restriction on spells only being allowed if a creature of the same color is included is to prevent best card splashes. You'll have to include at least one white creature in your list if you want Swords to Plowshares, ditto for red and Lightning Bolt and blue and Preordain.
It's possible that a Legendary Commander of the appropriate race should also be included. The restriction on Legendary cards in general is for power level, since not all races get similar Legendary options in terms of power. The restriction on Planeswalkers is that they're just too powerful to be part of a creature-oriented competition. They give too much value and are too hard to remove easily the way creatures can usually be managed.
Anybody think this would be fun to play?
