So, like a lot of other people on here, I too ended up buying a duel deck and I immediately traded a lot of the Knight cards away, but Tezzeret looked cool enough to build a deck around (and since I got back into Magic, I've been slowly using more and more planeswalkers).
So, this is what I came up with for a Mono Blue Artifact deck to finish my mono color wheel:
It's rough right now, but I want to make it really good, here are things I'm not sure of/comments:
1. Do I need the Spreading Seas? I like the idea of disabling a land and making Inkwell unblockable, but is there something better?
2. Are the Cloudposts OK? I figure it's decent ramp provided I get at least 2 out.
3. Expedition Map? I originally had Voltaic Key, but that seems out of place...
4. Crystal Ball is in place of Sensei's Divining Top. It's unlikely I'll have them anytime soon, but they're eventually going in - I'd rather just use Crystal Ball than a proxy of a card like that.
5. I have a playset of Thirst for Knowledge - is that better than something in here?
6. SoM cards that I'm interested in for this deck: Contagion Engine/Clasp, Grand Architect (wish he was an artifact, but he's definitely cool as is)
7. Tinker is mean, but a possibility
Any other suggestions/comments? It's casual, so I'd like to keep the artifact creatures colored, to fit the theme of a "Blue" deck. I know things like Steel Overseer would be awesome, and I just might put them in, but keeping it colored is what I'm interested in for now. If it turns out that it completely sucks with that restriction, I'll definitely re-think that, but it looks like it will work fine.
vesuva if you go cloudpost, it would also emulate a artifact land if needed be
other than that this is a decent control deck. You should add thoughtcast for that extra cheap draw, works especially if you have an all artifact deck.
I too bought 2 duel decks and revamped tezzeret. I had a deck based off of abusing charge counters and +1/+1 counters. It used energy chamber, steel overseer to generate mass amount of counters for both everflowing chalice and creatures like triskelion
You know what would go great with this especially because of Inkwell Leviathan? Quicksilver Fountain, the only slight downside is if you're a.) playing against another all blue deck then you don't need it or b.)having it change your nonbasic lands into islands which most of them produce blue mana anyway which isn't a big deal. My brother is making a flying sea creature deck and added Quicksilver Fountain for that very same reason i.e. islandwalk. Plus if you need to just change Quicksilver Fountain into a 5/5 artifact creature with Tezzeret the Seeker.
Oh and Tinker is a great substitute instead of paying for Inkwell Leviathan's mana cost, possible have that bad boy out on turn three.
@raver:
I didn't think of Vesuva because I wanted to maintain a good number of islands, but I suppose having 9 definite blue mana sources is OK. Thoughtcast is awesome, I looked right past it in the duel deck.
@Domogrue: Everflowing Chalice and Energy Chamber were one of my original ideas, since they were also both in the duel deck - the only reason I didn't do it was because it required 2 artifacts and I only had 3 spaces open at the time. Maybe take out 3 Expedition Map and 3 Spreading Seas for 3 Everflowing Chalice and 3 Energy Chamber (which also can pump my artifact creatures)?
@Makeshift Oddity:
I like Quicksilver Fountain, but wouldn't that change an artifact land into a normal island? That could end up hurting my artifact count for Master of Etherium. It's not huge, but could result in 1 or 2 less artifacts making him slightly weaker. I do like the card though.
So, this is what I came up with for a Mono Blue Artifact deck to finish my mono color wheel:
9 Island
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Cloudpost
4 Darksteel Citadel
Creatures (17)
4 Etherium Sculptor
3 Trinket Mage
4 Master Transmuter
4 Master of Etherium
2 Inkwell Leviathan
2 Crystal Ball
3 Expedition Map
Spells (12)
4 Counterspell
4 Boomerang
4 Fabricate
3 Spreading Seas
Planeswalkers (2)
2 Tezzeret the Seeker
