I'm not near my decks boxes at the moment but I have a strong urge to cut apart and combine my Red and Blue Mana Flip boxes I use for EDH. For my Niv and my Melek I'm working on, plus I love red/blue Magic. Anyone here with sewing practice have one of these boxes they can look at and evaluate for me?
I'm thinking.. cut the two sides off at the corner so they still suspend at the bottom sides. Then split the full box down the middle. Recombine middle with glue, then sew both sides (outside and inside) for look and coverup. Then the sides to close it up again.
Problems that could occur... are the magnets.. and the faux leather layer of the outside not being able to be sewn well.
When I get home I'll Photoshop a diagram of what I'm saying for a visual. Also wasn't sure where else to post this besides creativity.. Feel free to move topic. Thoughts?
I don't have any of these boxes, so my response is based on the assumption that the box is two layers sewn together. If it isn't, just pm me and I will remove this ore something.
If you could take the outer layer of both boxes without harming the inner layer, then do the design that you wanted, that would avoid the magnet problem and keep the structural integrity. I don't know if the outer layer is actually sewn on or not because I don't have one myself, but if it is I would suggest a seam ripper to take out all the seams. Then you could cut the outer layer to your design and sew/glue it all up again. When you sew it, I suggest using blue thread on the red parts and vice versa, but I don't really know what look you are going for. When you cut up the outside, use the sharpest scissors you have to avoid fraying it. My experience with faux leather have been that it can be difficult to cut.
