General
I've been trying to build a Dryad tribal deck, but I don't think its really viable at the moment without help from odd or expensive pieces...although I have been toying with Nylea's Presence as an offensive weapon to make an opponent's land into a Forest and then using all my Forestwalk dryads to attack for unblockable damage. Friend of mine plays lots of Black so the Wormwood Dryad gaining Swampwalk is usable even without Nylea's Presence for me. Dryad's Caress to gain back life spent for Wormwood Dryad.
Tanglewalker and Myr Landshaper are a nice little combo too to make everything unblockable.
Considering putting my Tendershoot Dryads in here to make Saprolings to tap for Loam Dryad or Saruli Caretaker to produce the desired color mana when needed...may not be necessary though. Unfortunately this likely won't happen as their key for the saproling deck.
1 Blossoming Sands2 Evolving Wilds20 Forest
1 Graypelt Refuge1 Jungle Hollow1 New Benalia2 Plains1 Radiant Fountain3 Swamp1 Terrarion4 Myr Landshaper
1 Mana Geode3 Naturalize
2 Dryad's Caress
4 Gnarlwood Dryad
Make the above changes to smooth out your mana base. The tap duals aren't needed for the random 1 pip of white you would need to use dryad's caress (which isn't really good to begin with but has Dryad in the name so i guess it stays), and can be done with you mana dorks or a Nylea's presence. Having lands come into play tapped would kill your tempo and considering your deck borders more of the Aggro tilt, this would cause more losses than not having the mana to maybe untap creatures with a 6 mana spell.
3 more Myr landshapers in to again add more creatures and because its kind of like a robot dryad. 24 lands is heavy for an aggro deck who's most expensive threat is 3 mana. So bring the land count down to 20 and add 3 Naturalizes to give you a little bit of control. Naturalize also seems like something a dryad would do (riding the world of unnatural things). Also is a cute combo with Myr Landshapers already in the deck.
Finally, reworking the creatures themselves, it may be worth dropping to two Dryad's Caress fro two more Gnarlwood Dryad's. Again lifegain in magic is generally not great, Gnarlwood is probably the more aggressive of the creatures you could be playing in this deck, and trades up fairly well, so it will either get blocked by a 1/1 (3/3 with delirium) or it will go unblocked in most cases.
Final thought about Dryad's Caress, its at its most powerful when it allows you to both be aggressive and defensive, for example attacking into an opponent and untapping the team before the crackback, this combat trick works well when its unexpected, however its hard to not show your hand so to speak when an aggro deck leaves 6 mana open and passes turn. Mana sinks are good for hiding this, as it gives an opponent a reason to second guess your hand. Nylea's Bow and Nylea herself are decent mana sinks that don't cost to much (mana and real dollars) that could add alot to this deck and will still be theme adjacent. They will add reach to your deck and allow you to close the game out as well. Food for thought.
Reach has been a problem for a few decks, I used Prey Upon and Tolsimir to help that in my wolves deck, but this deck is just for fun and I want to keep it thematic so the Bow could be a nice add (Nylea would have to be a dryad technically wouldn't she? Like Thassa should be a merfolk and some of the other Theros gods are obviously others like centaur, minotaur)
I built this mainly from junk I have sitting around extra from previous decks and added a few that were thematic that I felt I could acquire easily. I'll look into some of these; I know I have a few Naturalizes floating around...thematic enough, doesn't one of them have a Selesnyan quote?
Have to add the new THB Dryad once the set drops, he's basically a walking Nylea's Presence...get that cheap white when I need it.
Lame tribal deck that really has no tribal support...although maybe the Commander set this year will have something interesting in it...Trostani is like the only legendary dryad if I'm remembering correctly.
Thanks!
