General Goal

Overall, like any ramp deck, this deck aims at being able to dump out as much mana as fast as possible. The massive amounts generated can be used for either Elder of Laurels's (the only non-elf creature) 3G or Ezuri, Renegade Leader's 2GGG, or some combination of the two. An exceptional combo to get out is one or more Copperhorn Scouts to double your creature-generated mana for the turn to add an even higher boost to an attack's overall p/t.

  • Ezuri, Renegade Leader
  • Elder of Laurels
  • Copperhorn Scout

Draw Power

This deck is generally lacking in terms of a reliable draw, so I've tried to put as much as possible in that still fit with the overall creature/ramp/pump theme. The result is typically a higher CMC, but with a more versatile effect, whether it be doubling my land-based mana with Zendikar Resurgent while drawing for each creature played, a six-turn delay to pull out every elf in the deck with Nissa Revane, or the extra two cards each turn with a possible extra land or two from Nissa, Nature's Artisan.

  • Nissa Revane
  • Zendikar Resurgent
  • Nissa, Nature's Artisan

Sideboard

Golgari Decoy (Taunting Elf if playing Casual)

This deck relies primarily on an all-out attack to finish the game in one hit, but this will fall short and leave you open if you have a) more than one opponent or b) an opponent running fog or similar cards. The modern-legal solution to this in a creature was found in Golgari Decoy. This enables you to attack each opponent with only two creatures: Golgari Decoy and a miscellaneous elf that is pumped. This new strategy makes Elder of Laurels your go-to outlet for pumping with Ezuri, Renegade Leader being used for his G ability on the Golgari Decoy. Using this type of attack opens you up to opt for a more chip damage style of attack or hitting every player at once with a guarantee that a creature will not be blocked.

Asceticism (High price tag compared to rest of deck)

The lack of return from graveyard spells in this deck makes it extremely vulnerable to any type of targeted removal. Asceticism provides both a blanket hexproof to all creatures, protecting from Murders and Lightning Bolt, while also enabling Ezuri, Renegade Leader a to be utilized in an attack or block; it also enables you to not be wiped out by certain board wipes. If in a game if Two-Headed Giant, its 1G ability can target your teammate's creatures as well. A cheaper alternative to Asceticism is always just to run a few return spells.

  • Golgari Decoy
  • Asceticism
