Today I'm going to church, then coming home until 3. At that time I'm going back to church to go on a small "retreat." I'll be back monday in the afternoon sometime. My Youth Pastor couldn't get enough male chaperone's so I'm in charge of all the kids in my room. Should either be fun, or irritating, we'll see.

Morning Coffeehouse! I woke up surprisingly early today. I'm taking advantage of that..
Just got to the Temple of Time on Twilight Princess.. I've been collecting bugs, poes, hearts.. I've already got 12 heart containers and 3 bottles, but I need to upgrade my quiver twice and my bombs once..
Coming VERY soon.. Regular of the Week and Geek Mp3!
Meanwhile, I'm buggin' because we got so many games for Christmas or around that time, and I've blwon through them all. BORED. I'm trying to get to the end of Baten Kaitos currently, because I never bothered finishing that game and it has a special place in my collection.
But what I really want...*crackheaded twitching* is Dragon Quest IX.
@Ninja: What? A white Force Spike? I haven't checked the Rumor Mill... but I'm sure I'll be surprised. Best of luck to your aunt as well.
@KK: Church youth group? Eh... religion isn't very big for me. I did, however, join a Jewish community service group once during the summer, where we helped build houses in Vancouver for the local branch of Habitat for Humanity.
I got back to college an hour ago, and I got back before the ****ing RA. What the hell. I met only one of my friends who's been here for about a week since he's on the basketball team.
Football: Yay - Eagles lost! As a Giants fan I understand you're supposed to root for the team that beat you - but seriously I can't stand the Eagles normally anyway. Now rooting for the Saints anyway. I like feel-good stories.
For yours and everyone else's sake, I'm going to pretend I didn't see that.

I don't have much planned for today, but I do want to get off my ass and play a lot more Dragon Quest. I wouldn't say I've been avoiding it, but I've been distracted by other things lately.
Just wanted to say hi.... tell everyone that my weekend went great...spent some time w/ Ryan.. went to Sanctuaries playtesting where my red deck had some real burn... a lot of fun Then Saturday Ryan and I hung out a bit and then parted ways until he came over to drop off something I forgot, and we all (me and my roommate and her bf, and Ryan) went to D&D together... I hung out there for a little while then went to the comedian oncampus.. it was okay.. not great but okay...... and then i came back here and been messing around on the PC spoiler for awhile... I'm amazed.....Serra Sphinx is being planeshifted from Serra Angel!? Woah... Also, Shivan Meteor is JUST an uncommon !? Holy crap... anyway I'm workin' on my little project.... But first i need to organize some things around here.... my room's an absolute mess and I'm having someone come up here in abt a half hour to check it out.. So yea I should go do that... also i'm hungry.. but first things first.... then tonight I'm gonna be studying.... Huge organizational business test tomorrow... Ugh...

SnoopDoggAtog, or SDA, Snoop, or Starr as she prefers to be called, is a long-time regular of the Coffeehouse. Joining in January 2005 because this was where all the good rumors went, Snoop's user name is derived from everyone's favorite artifact-eater and the famous rap artist, both of whom she enjoys. She has graciously listed the Coffeehouse as her most favorite place to visit on MTGS, followed by the Judge forums, the Rules forums, and a super secret spy forum. Seriously, she said she'd kill me if she told me.
Of Magic, Snoop's favorite cards are Sylvan Library and Scroll Rack, both library manipulators. Both are useful in many decks, including her favorites, ten-land and Stompy. She enjoys decks that smash face, and has grown to love more recent aggressive decks like Boros and Zoo.
When she's not smashing face, Snoop enjoys biking, clocking in over 50 miles a week as she rides to work. She must have thighs of steel! Also, Snoop loves to hike and canoe, but when she finds time to sit and game, Starcraft, Age of Empires III, and Warhammer 40k all strike her fancy, as well as, of course, helping/running Magic tournaments.
Of the Coffeehouse, she said something that made me smile: The coffeehouse is a refuge for people to just be open and honest, respect each other, and have a positive attitude. I care about people here and know that the feeling is probably mutual. Of course it is! We love and appreciate your presence here, SnoopDoggAtog. You've been with us for a long time and we're glad to have you.
Of course, her favorite menu item is, along with most of us, the COOOOOKIIIIEEEEESSSSSS!
When asked about herself, she only offered a hopeful and inspiring concept: If I could make a road trip to meet people from the Coffeehouse, that would be a worthwhile venture, more satisfying to me than going to a resort or luxury getaway. Meeting new people and actually living your life should come before school and work, not after, it would make the world a better, more compassionate place. Aww, thanks, SDA. You're making us blush.
Her desires and hopes are to get out of debt (like most of us), get into a decent ultrasound program (Cecilia might hook you up), find a steady job (le sigh..), and be with her loved ones and family. Aww. Here's hoping.
Her current project at the moment is to find a job.
When asked if she wanted to mention any particular favorites in the Coffeehouse, she merely said that everyone contributes in their own way, and was afraid to name anyone in fear of leaving someone out. How sweet.
That's it for this week's RotW.. your Geek Mp3 has been slightly delayed. Sorry!
Hey, Snoopdogg, congratulations on your Regular of the Week status! It's about time, eh? So, would you prefer it if we call you Starr from now one?
I hope you have luck finding a new job. I hope all of us who are looking for jobs (you, Mr. Stuff, Mortal Wombat, myself, Buzz) can find what we are looking for. You deserve for things to start going your way, for once.
@PC: I like the green Concentrate, too, and think it fits. It's a slight stretch, but I've always thought green needed more abundant card drawing. Originally it was conceived to be the color of card draw before that was assigned to blue.
I'm looking forward to Planar Chaos, really. Most of the blurrs in the color pie are more interesting than they are affrontive, in my mind.

All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
@Mr. Stuff: Concentrate in green? This is getting insane.
So I'm back at college, and I got back at 10:30. I watched a little bit of the football game and fell asleep, and I woke up, the score's tied. I'm going to check out which friends of mine have returned.
Good job, Snoop!
Chicago just won overtime. Now they get to play the Saints.
@Eagles&Saints
How did the refs blow the game, Buzz? if your talking about the fall start on 4th and 10, well they made the right call. And punting wasn't that bad of an idea, their coach (Andy Reid, i think is ohw you spell it) thought his defense had a better chance of stopping 3 runs than his offense did on 4th and 15(which has only been made 1/19 times this year). Anyways, i was for the Saints, NO needs something good to happen after Katrina. Otherwise i wouldn't care (Go Green Bay!!!!).
@Shadowfox
I don't really know. If it was me, I would see if anything was going to happen between them, and if nothing happens, do what you would normally do. Don't take my advice too seriously, because i have never had a girlfriend, though.
I might not be on a lot for a week or so, i have a few projects and a mid-term to do/take *sighs*.

Well, I think that False Start call was way off. In the replay, it looked like only his hand was moving before the ball was snapped. But other than that, Reggie Bush's TD run shouldn't have counted. The ball never crossed the plane before he went out of bounds. Also, when Westbrook run in for his TD, the ref, standing like 2 feet away from him, didn't even raise his arms and signal a touchdown, despite its obvious he was in anyway.
I'm rooting for the Bears now, all the way. Yeah, I know it'd be good and everything if NO won the Super Bowl, but like someone else said on another forum, I'd rather not see 30 hours of footage about NO's "miracle season" after Katrina. You know it will happen if they win, and while I do feel bad about the losses in New Orleans, I'd rather not keep hearing about it.
Hey is anyone going to the prerelease on Satuday, in Syracuse NY ??? And is there a thread up already which has who's goin' to which prerelease???? Both Arguas and I are going to the Syracuse prerelease...
As for me, i just got done eating, so now I'm gonna go down to Sol's to check somethin' out.. .then its back here to study for my test...
If I were still on vacation, I'd be at the prerelease in New York City. The closest one here is in Philadelphia and I don't have the means of getting there.
@Russian spoilers: From Russia with Magic cards! I haven't seen all of the cards, but the ones I do know of are amazing, like the red Spirit Guide and mini-Haunting Echoes with split second.
@snoop: Congrats on rotw you definetly deserve it your a very dedicated member to the coffeehouse. *hugs snoop*
@Mamelon: Waves at mamelon* I am very glad your doing very well and have a great day at work tommorrow! *hugs mamelon*
@Mr. Stuff: Nice i like the green concentrate too it could turn out to be a good asset in my mono green aggro deck.
@omna: Have a good day tommorrow omna and goodluck in your academic goals im sure you will do excellent.
Well I am going to go for awhile. I will be on aol messenger if anyone wants to talk to me. I will see you all tommorrow though. Have a great night everyone! *hugs everyone in the coffeehouse* Have a great week starting from tommorrow everyone and happy martin king day tommorrow!
I saw Children of Men earlier. It's Ok. Absolutely nothing like the book, however. And I missed the first 5-10 minutes, and that left me without a large part of the movie.
And, uh, midterms start tommorow. Which sux. But we have ~4 hrs of school a day, so it's cool.
@PR: I'm prolly not going. I haven't played Magic in a long while though, anyway.

I heard that the book was a lot better. I didn't like how abruptly it ended, but it was a good movie.
I might be going to the prerelease, if I can get a chance to go. But we'll see what happens.
Congrats Starr for your RotW.
And now for my catch-up Game of the Week. I'll do another one on Wednesday, I'm sure. But until then...
Yes, that's right, I went there. And I'll continue to go there.
Like Kingdom Hearts, I wasn't the first of my buddies to get into the Pokemon games. In fact, it was my friend Mitch who first had it in... Oh, I'd say 1998, just after the release. I watched him play for a few minutes, watching him catch a few Pokemon. To this day, I can't remember where he was in the game while I watched, since I haven't found the area that has matched it since. But that's besides the point.
Pokemon is a game that started a cultural revolution, and has helped get many people into video games. Kids play the games ravenously, which explains why a new set of Pokemon games comes out every year or two. The games are snatched up, while the anime (bad anime, maybe, but still) is shown in major networks, movies are made and put into theaters before going to tape, a card game is made by the makers of our beloved Magic, and so on. Most every form of media has been made for this near-legendary game, from movies to books to music. Yes, music. Who remembers Weird Al's Polkamon?
I'll admit that I'm still into the games. I buy the new games when they come out, as does my best friend. Hey, they're RPGs, though most serious gamers would never admit it. You get a full party (though it does tend to be 1v1 battles) with stats to follow and upgrade. There are level-ups. Heck, there's even equipment now. While the storyline is nothing special, it does exist. And who doesn't like collecting things in games?
As I'm sure everyone knows, the game follows a very basic principle: Catch cute little monsters in balls of advanced technology, thus domesticating them, and then train them to fight against other monsters both wild and domesticated. Very easy to understand, which is why everyone can get into the games, and why most people have at this point. The idea also doesn't have much of a limit, either. New monsters can be thought up (which is why new RPGs with fighting involved tend to work), the basic storylines can be re-written, and the world can be expanded. More advanced qualifications to make monsters appear (Final Fantasy 12 marks, anyone?) can be thought up. And since you can play against your friends, you can always have something to do, which includes going to, say, New York and going to one of the festivals.
Now, the graphics and music are nothing special. Of course, they're also on Game Boys, starting with the Game Boy original (though it had some color programmed for Game Boy Color) and advancing through to the new releases on the DS. It's an over-head view of a sprite of a trainer working through the world, and pixilated monsters. No big deal. And the music is just synthesized stuff, like Pac Man or Tetris. So music and graphics don't get much of a point value in this one.
The gaming itself can, I admit, get old. I mean, I've never fully completed a game to date. (Though, when Leafgreen and Firered came out, I DID finally complete the original 150 pokemon list. I gotta go back to Red and blue and do that one day...) Endlessly going after monsters all over the virtual world, especially ones that have extremely low 'pop' rates (like Chancey), can get irritatingly old. But as each new game comes out, they give you more and more stuff to do between your hunt, like solving puzzles, going in catching contests, beauty contests, beating up evil organizations, and generally being an all-around good guy.
However, old as it can get, the games also have replayability. I can't count the number of times I've restarted my game and gone back to the old haunts. I can probably recite the storylines of most of the games to date, including the order of towns you go in. Heck, name me a monster in Red, Blue, or Yellow, and I can probably tell you where to find it, and how. So you tend to play the game several times over, which is a good thing when you pay 30 bucks for a game. Better than some RPGs I know. (I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy 10-2).
This is getting long winded, and too reminiscent. So I'll skip to the end. Though the games are basic, childish, and are based on a franchise that is continually overmilked, they come out to good games. Especially the ancient duo, Red and Blue (Green, if you're from Japan). I'm probably being overgenerous here, but I'm going to give my old companions a final score of 8/10.
I might be going to the prerelease, if I can get a chance to go. But we'll see what happens.
Congrats Starr for your RotW.

yeah, i like the pokemon games, they are very replayable, and they always seem to make you want to go back and do something again better or do something you didn't do the last time you played, but i also liked the pokemon colosseum and pokemon : shadow lugia games for the gamecube, what do you think of those

Haha, Nai, I couldn't agree more. I feel as if the low-quality and very kiddish anime has hurt the general gaming public's opinion of the games, and superficial similarities to Yu-Gi-Oh!, a very weak card game, have hurt the card game's image. (The game is also generally spurned by MTG players, possibly because it doesn't have a fifty page technical document for a rules book. That said, it is a generally less engaging game than Magic, though it is still a perfectly legitimate game. Mocking the Pokemon TCG seems to be less of a trend than it used to be, though, possibly because it's less in the limelight.) I do not hesitate to proudly call the Pokemon series my favorite game of all time. (Really, even though it's spread across a bunch of actual releases, it's basically the same game; since the games generally improve on each other, I'd really call whatever generation is most recent my favorite.)
EDIT: In general, the various pokemon spinoffs that use the same basic system (The Pokemon Stadium-esque ones, as opposed to games that feature the pokemon product but offer a different gaming experience, such as the Pinball games, Pokemon Snap, or Hey You! Pikachu), in my mind, serve as a nice supplement to the series, but don't hold up very well on their own. I would not reccommend any of them to someone who wasn't really into Pokemon.
Airplane! is correct.
Have fun on your "retreat" broseph.

@Shadowfox

Windmills do not work that way!
As for me, i just got done eating, so now I'm gonna go down to Sol's to check somethin' out.. .then its back here to study for my test...

I heard that the book was a lot better. I didn't like how abruptly it ended, but it was a good movie.
My helpdesk should you need me.
yeah, i like the pokemon games, they are very replayable, and they always seem to make you want to go back and do something again better or do something you didn't do the last time you played, but i also liked the pokemon colosseum and pokemon : shadow lugia games for the gamecube, what do you think of those

RIP PolarBearGod
EDIT: In general, the various pokemon spinoffs that use the same basic system (The Pokemon Stadium-esque ones, as opposed to games that feature the pokemon product but offer a different gaming experience, such as the Pinball games, Pokemon Snap, or Hey You! Pikachu), in my mind, serve as a nice supplement to the series, but don't hold up very well on their own. I would not reccommend any of them to someone who wasn't really into Pokemon.
