Thought I would stop by, been busy preparing for the exams.
Also @Dechs was it planned or an accident, since I really hope it is not the latter for your sake.

@Dechs I second Chili's question and I think congratulations are in order
@therestless Did you like Dishonored that much? I liked the storyline, Bethesda does some awesome work. Corvo looked like an awesome character too. Are you playing on Xbox? Recently, I bought Heavy Rain and I must say I'm surprised. The game is painfully beautiful, I can't find a thing I don't like about it.
I'm exclusively a PC gamer actually. I'm not very far into it, but I like playing it as a stealth assassination game so I'm killing pretty much every hostile I encounter. The way they do combat is fairly simple but also very responsive and satisfying.
Congrats! Way to bring little minions into the dark world!
Dark world indeed. I actually found out on Wednesday, then the shooting on Friday happened. Is that a bad omen?
More seriously, I do intend to teach my kid how to play magic. The litmus test will be every month or so I'll hand him a basic land to play with. When his first reaction is no longer "chew on the card" he's ready to learn.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
Nah no thanks. You can keep your nerd thug tactics. It is ridiculous that I cant trade MY cards using MY databased list which is easy to update and manage. The mod community here is the terrible, virtual MTG brownshirt club.

Epic. I just got out of a visit with my son. He is awesome. Will be 2 in April. His mother said I couldn't teach him magic but she just hates me and everything I do so I expected it.

I'm siging that!
Round 3 pairings are up in the BYOS Tournament. And we have a CMB grudge match. bmp vs therestless!
It will be fun if it's a mirror match but I don't have that much of a hope, I think. My deck was something close to a meta call, we will see Anyway, if it's okay for therestless, I'm okay with spectators. We will let you guys know when we'll face off.
Edit: So I drafted Izzet today at my LGS. Did terrible (2-4) but I'd to mulligan to 4 in my first game and I never drew a land in another (kept a 2 land hand). I think that there were problems between the table and the chair, to be honest, but I had a blast with the archetype. Overload is an interesting mechanic.
I'm anxiously waiting for Dimir and Orzhov in GTC; will love to draft either of them
Since the world is ending in two days, I'd like to know how you guys are celebrating our hard work, because of course we're the ones who are behind the Mayan 'prediction.'
Don't worry guys, even if the skynet AI fails to rise, the alien invaders are held up in space traffic, the death star built into the moon is destroyed by some random noob from a third-world planet no one has ever heard of, and the zombie-creating virus is miraculously cured, there is always Friday the 13th, 2013.

Well, I believe I have consolidated enough black mana in a super secret reservoir so that when the world has ended and is nothing more than a barren chunk of rock, I can rebuild with me as a dark and evil god, enslaving all beneath me like I am some dark and evil overlord.

Between what I've posted in this thread and the event thread, I'm pretty sure someone could extrapolate ~50/60 of my deck. I designed my plan less as a meta call and more as something objectively difficult to disrupt. Presumably, this means the only consistent answer would be to run a faster deck. So far my opponents have been scarily close to fulfilling that requirement...
At any rate, currently planning the match for Saturday, 10 AM@GMT-6.
The Cave of No Return! 'Tis a nice adventure to go there I never finished reading those but it's a very cool story.
Anyone here ever read Habibi or W.E. 3? I'm considering buying one of them for Christmas but I can't decide which one. Also I started reading Sweet Tooth (if there are any Vertigo fans here) and I'm having a great time.
On the subject of the world's end, I intend to go out in Rakdos style. I don't have any black mana reservoir nor a plan B
@therestless I had interesting matches against aggro so far and I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion that there's nothing broken so far. That makes me happy. I was afraid that someone would find a way to exploit the format and new bans would follow but it doesn't seem something like that has happened.

I'm definitely happy with what I've seen so far, but I wouldn't be assured of its stability until we get a second event completed after posting the lists from this one. Everything being used right now is just the first-order strategies. If we can unban a few cards after this and still have a second legitimate tournament then we'll truly be in a great spot.

I have only witnessed a couple matches, but I must agree from what I have seen. so far, I believe our current ban list is quite adequate.
so my LGS had an "End of the World Party" last night. Free draft of M13. Made blue black conrol with a Jace. Got third. ended up getting the jace and traded for the liliana of the dark realms. then bought a lili of the veil from the store. traded an odyssey fetch for 2 black zen fetches and other random black stuff like arena. not a bad night.
@feast, It certainly could be worse I really liked drafting M13 (I drafted it four or five times, actually) and I think it's a great core set. And I really prefer Zen fetches as I often play "enemy" colours.
On a Magic note, I liked the Simic mechanic (the new spoiler), it seems interesting for limited. Don't know about Constructed but it certainly looks exploitable.
On a gaming note, I decided to go back to WoW, as I've expend many years there and I was a bit nostalgic
@bmp It really could. I traded white blue fetch for 1 verdant catacombs and 1 marsh flats. lili of the dark realms was part of that trade as well. he actually took it from the draft since he knew I wanted it and placed 2nd and I placed 3rd. I would have gotten second but for a misplay where I should have cracked an elixir of immortality and forgot I even had it in play. The best part of the trade was that directly after the owner announced that he was switching his focus to modern from a standard/legacy split. he is no longer doing legacy and his standard is only two headed giant. so the onslaught fetches are useless to me and zen fetches just got a lot more important.
Marsh Flats raised its value where I'm at, mostly because of Spirit Jund. Also, I'm noticing a lot of owners switching to Modern (or at least favouring Modern as much as Standard). It's too bad my favourite gaming store is heavily focused on Standard, as the owner had some troubles with some stupid people. There's a store that runs Modern too, not too far away, but I'm not that fond of the place. I got hated out for playing Combo decks in Legacy/Old Extended. Anyway, /ramble. I really like the artwork on some Zen fetches too, Verdant being my favourite.
I had a terrible time fighting Elixir. During a draft, a guy at my LGS had 2 (6-pack draft) and some strong removal (BR it was, if I recall correctly). It taught me to not play my least favourite colour combination (GW)
I did some crazy things yesterday though. I got passed the jace through 3 people that looked at the pack and saw a nighthawk, arms dealer(already playing alot of goblins by pack 3) and duskdale wurm and didn't already have a finisher for his mono green. then opened 2 talrands invocations and 2 achrnomancers. alot of drakes were made. They focoused all their power on jace only to get the beat down from 4 sometimes 8 drakes. this was followed up by 2 harbor bandits, a favorite of mine in core set draft, and a lot of unsummons and counters. I had probably the best deck but I misplayed and didn't crack elixir which would have won the game and put me at first. I hate loosing that way. When it's my own fault and I know it.
It certainly looks like a great deck. It seems that you had a great curve, too. The Harbor is a favourite of mine too; most often than not, he is a 3 mana 3/3 and his unblockability creates some reach. In your case, you had evasion with the Drakes, but still the Harbor is nice. For a similar reason, I'm greatly enjoying having drafted a Rogue's Passage for RtR League. Volatile Rig + it makes for an interesting game-plan. Same reason I'm liking Pursuit of Flight and Deviant Glee, as I'm playing URb.
As a Johnny, Combo Player, I understand how bad it's to lose to your own mistake but, on the bright side, you learned from it and didn't blame the bad luck, as it's usually the case
