Unless you're at least the age of consent and you're cute.
Once upon a time a wise man said, "That guy is hot." The statement spawned an idea so great that our brightest scholars documented instances of said "hotness" for posterity. In the following links you can observe this greatness.
AHHHH!!!! I love how much space we have! And I'm glad to see those tacky lava lamps are gone. Thank goodness. Thanks blue!
I feel intimidated to be the first poster! I feel like I need to start a conversation! So... Skyrim? I am almost level 40, finishing the mages guild line as my final quest line. Ya'll?
Also, Lady Gaga's new music video? IT'S SO GREAT! It is her best yet, which I say all the time because she legit keeps topping herself.
EDIT: ALSO, Terraria. They just released a giant update. I really want to get on and play, but if I do I will fail final exams.
Right now I'm only level 28 or so. Watched a friend play the other day and told him when he's the than Lydia will follow him and she'll attack people for you. Sometimes she'll tell you "Oh I can't do that." But.... He decided to try it on the Jarl of whiterun and ended up getting attacked all the way out of the city...and in any surrounding area and by any whiterun guards. I told him SOMETIMES!!!!
Right now my archery is my best skill around 67 and my sneak is up per Chase's recommendations. I love that with archery if you attack and zoom you can slow down time by 50%
I still love glitching the game though. I may have told this story already but I dunno so here it goes again:
I was in the sanguine rose mission that sam asks you to do and there's a dungeon you have to fight your way through (full of conjurers and other mages). And some rooms have exit doors (bars on the other side stop you from opening them). I used the throw voice shout right next to the door to see if I got any red dots on my screen (I could have used aura whisper but whatevs) and it was like 7 mages on the other side of the door. Fun fact, if you stand facing a door and you shout you move forward and glitch your head through the door for a second and can see through the other side. Throwing my voice made them all gather by the door. I got as close to the door as possible and summoned a fire antronarch on the other side and beat the dungeon haha. I should proooobably go back through but I got the sanguine rose immediately after so I didn't bother going back lol.
Also this is my 11111th post!!!
Any plans for the weekend y'all? I was going to karaoke but no one else is going.
Hope y'all also don't mind that I chose the thread name
I still need to get back into the game. Having a lot of fun with it, but I"ve been doing other stuff. Today, I'm doing some Survival on Modern Warfare 3.
I never did Black Ops, so I never did Nazi Zombies. That said? This is really, really fun. Even in single player. I can imagine that with multiple people, this would get so much better.
Also, Christmas Shopping. Got my little sisters finished, gonna get boots and some sort of jewelry for elder little sis, Mom is getting this awesome Hearbeat Monitor watch (she's studying to be a nurse) and something else. Grandmother is getting fur boots to keep her feet warm, and some sort of chocolate. Then I have sundry other mini-gifts to get.

LOL, the game has it's glitches. Have you put pots over the guards heads yet? It's highly amusing.
For me, sneak is the highest skill at 100. Get a hammer, sneak through a burial mound, curbstomp draugrs. Sneak skill will level way up.
How much do you pickpocket? I find it to not be a good thing to do in mots situations.
Congrats on the post count, and I hope you find something fun to do this weekend. For me, I'm doing exams, then SNM (Saturday Night Magic, get your head out of the gutter).
Nai, you seem really good at Christmas shopping. I haven't even started mine yet and I have NO idea what to get anyone >.<
Also, BLOps is the type of game I could never play for sustained periods, but it tons of for for a short time. (By short time I mean 20-30 hours )

i know nothing about this game haha. Unless there's a mode in the game where you're in a mansion/house with a theater and you have to fight hordes of zombies and can find chests in random rooms for weapons and there's a projector room where you can upgrade your shiz.

Hrm I'm always too poor to buy people gifts. This year I work in retail so I can at least get a discount there. I should probably do...something eh?

My sneak isn't that high yet but honestly it's higher than it has any right to be. I have a problem in Halo that I always accidentally crouch when I don't mean to. Same problem in this game :/ Upside is sneaking EVERYWHERE gets my level up hah.
How much do you pickpocket? I find it to not be a good thing to do in mots situations.
Rarely. I have the thieve's guild armor so pickpocketing is easier and sometimes I can steal on item while sneaking but usually two or more is caught red handed territory and it's annoying.

Level 30ish and have yet to start the main story quests. Only done about 3 of the Thieves Guild quests. Having too much fun just running around with my bow and sneak attack sniping things like giants lol.
my sneak is at 91 and my archery at 65ish. oh yeah 3 shots to kill a giant.

I'm about that level of giant killing. I jump up mountains and explore the crap out of the map but have only accomplished like 7 of the main story quests lol. It was difficult to use the bow at first and it was frustrating in dungeons I couldn't get far enough away to survive
i did destruction for a while and now wish I hadn't used any perks on it. It's fine for close combat but now I just use sanguine rose to help with the melee, duck and use my superior elven bow with soul trap enchantment on it to help refill the rose. I'm not very good at enchanting yet :/
But i did get my restoration up high enough so that I could use the perk that lets me heal health and stamina. I highly recommend it if you don't get a lot of potions.
And...ya know hypothetically speaking >_> Did y'all try to get your character to be as hot as possible?
Yeah maybe. Maybe afraid of not being perfect like in black swan but less crazy and a lot fatter.
Perfection, my dear Micah, is in the eye of the beholder. Hell, I don't have abs of steel myself, but I still strut like I'm hot ****. Why? Because you don't need abs of steel to be hot ****. Best lesson I ever learned was how to be happy with myself.

Oh, yes, great topic!!
I got it through gamefly last week. I can only play it for 2 hours during the week, but on the weekend, that's what I did. Pretty much only that, haha. I think I'm level 12 now, and I'm trying to go from Windhelm to the Shrine of Azura. I've come across a freaking Ice Wraith and Sabre Tooth Cat that I can't beat.

AMEN BROTHER.
I, for instance, am the cutest ****ing thing on two legs.

i know i know. I'm awesome and gorgeous blah blah blah. I'll work on this But, I'll also work on improving my hotness quotient.

I karaoked a few weeks ago. It was fun as hell, but I sounded terrible due to my winter voice. (Scratchy and cracked. :()
yeah yeah "winter" voice. I'm just saying Red_o's a lucky duck bahaha.
I love the new title.
AMEN BROTHER.

Well That's sage advice for anyone I guess. If you're feeling low and lack confidence,....why? If you answer because...just stop...Why? Exactly. No reason. I'll work on this
Watching other people play skyrim is akin to torture. That's illegal right? I can have him arrested so I can play right? Hm maybe if I become the thane of this house...

This. I personally like bigger guys, though my taste has been expanding.
As for getting the character as hot as possible... duh? That's why I wish I could use light armor more, but it's just not a good skill set. Thieves will want a set of clothes found during the dark brotherhood line more than light armor and fighters will want heavy armor.
Also, I had to watch people play skyrim for an HOUR before I could finish downloading it. An HOUR. I ended up sitting outside until mine finished downloading.
I haven't touched Skyrim since I put it down a week or two ago. Still on the same Mage's Guild quest, still at the same puzzle. It still seems to be glitched. I'll try it again tonight.
Most of my time has been taken by Modern Warfare 3. I need to beat Skyward Sword. But lately, I find myself reading a lot. I've been reading through each of the City Watch books of the Discworld series, since Pratchett recently released another one I intend to read soon.
Oh. And listening to various Zelda songs. Remixed and orchestral tracks. There's an awesome Song of Storms remix from the guys at OCRemix on this album they did, "25 year legend", and the awesome Gerudo Valley one on the CD that came with Skyward Sword. Completely orchestral, and epic sounding. Apparently, if you put a violin in a song, I start drooling.
Skyrim is of a genre known as 'sandbox games', like Saints Row, Grand Theft Auto, and some others. The genre isn't widely made because they take a lot of work. The Elder Scrolls series is known for letting you do just about whatever you want. To the point where you can actually screw yourself out of completing the game. Bethesda, the creators, are also known to apply for the "the developers think of everything" trope because, in that last example? After you screwed yourself out of completing the game, there was still a hidden backdoor to completing the game (go look up Morrowind's storyline).
Essentially, you do anything you want, how you want. Make any character you want. Any morals. Explore the world. Join guilds. Explore dungeons. The game is there at your leisure, to be completed whenever the hell you feel like completing it. And you can, as I said, play any character you want. Ranged or melee or magic. Sneaky or outright. Light armor, heavy armor, or a mix. Mundane items or magical. Trustyworthy, or decidedly not.
And, most importantly, the game doesn't pull its punches. Bethesda makes a point that the game can be as hard as you want. In an era of games where it's consistently easy, letting the player win, Elder Scrolls games will routinely kill you. You can set the game easier, of course. But at normal difficulty in Skyrim, a giant can one-shot you and cause you to fly half a mile into the air. And they're commonly found.
I don't really play video games and I don't get the whole Skyrim thing. What's the big deal?
Honestly I play this game and I don't see the appeal. What I like in a game is just freedom to do whatever I want, few cut scenes, the story doesn't matter and I can level up. I can do that with skyrim. I wasn't excited when I heard about it and after playing it I only continue because I like to level up :/ But in and of itself there's nothing exciting about it. If you like graphics i'm told these are ok. I have no clue what's going on in the storyline and I don't care so if you like storyline ask someone else.
Also: Found an easy way to level up maybe 5 levels in an hour. Not sure how useful this is for anyone but there's an adept level alteration spell called telekinesis. If you lift a bucket or anything like that it earns you XP for alteration. In an hour i was able to get my friend's alteration up from level 43 to level 100 and he went from level 29 to level 34. (actually his last level was when alt was at 99 so he got a little extra after it was all over). Helps if you have a lot of magicka because it's pretty expensive. If you've gotten the right mask you can restore your magicka pretty quickly but if not then a compliment of alteration apparel would be awesome (17% cheaper + 50% magicka regen faster)
Gonna test out some other methods of leveling the magic side up. Thinking of conjuring up fire guys and just attacking them with frost destruction spells to level both those up. Seems the harder it is to cast (ie adept>apprentice>novice) the more XP you gain from casting it.

I will chime in on my first post on this wonderful new thread, to say that if there ever were true words, the post I quoted are it. You are who you are... if you don't like it, then you and only you can do something about it. But at the same time, love yourself for what you are at that moment and strive to reach new heights. In the end, we're all one race: the human race, and only by believing in ourselves, can we make the world better.
Word, Hugo. A very well-written article. I was especially intrigued by the conjunctive and disjunctive section as that's something I'm aware of firsthand (I am disjunctive, for the record) but never knew had proper terms to describe. I was also very taken by his stories of telling girls he was dating about his sexual past because that's an uncomfortable moment I know all too well. I've actually more or less abandoned the idea of dating women for exactly that reason - me being bi has been met by cautious suspicion at best and outright revulsion at worst. It's gotten bad enough that I don't believe I'll ever have a long-term relationship with a woman (which wasn't a happy conclusion to reach, but I was already fairly disinterested in women beyond sex that I suppose it's no great loss).

I did that, and then I gained ten pounds this semester.

I'll have to take a gander. I'll let you know what I think:
to that end edit:
"Even if you’re only sexually attracted to females, there’s no way your wife or girlfriend can possibly embody everything that draws you to women."
favorite quote in that article. I have very little experience with bisexuals. I will say that some of the ones I've met are VERY defensive about their sexuality even when I'm not questioning it at all. Some people must go through a lot of crap when they shouldn't have to prove anything to begin with. :/ To all my bisexuals here's a big ol bear hug *it's here come get it*
I did that, and then I gained ten pounds this semester.
You know what fixes that? skyrim. Wait no.
You know what DOES feel awesome though? A workout so invigorating that after you're done being sedentary drives you crazy. That's what happened to me today with ab ripper x and a 2 mile jog/walk.
Ok more questions time. I've been chatting guys up on grindr pretty hardcore the last few days trying to make some friendship connections (and it's sloooooowly working). Here's some things I've asked or come across and would like opinions of my gaymers since your perspective may be helpful to me.
1) If you're just trying to make friends then why does it matter what they look like?
2) When someone tries to talk to you and they're not appealing to you sexually what is your reaction (specifically they COULD be attracted to you but you don't really know why they're talking to you. Let's assume that they are neither interesting/banal or threatening/creepy.)
3) Would it bother you if a gay guy said, "I hate gay culture. Gays are annoying and catty. No wonder people won't let gays get married all over." (why/why not?)
4) If you perceive there are problems in the gay world do you believe you can make a difference? Would you want to/have you tried?
The last one I wanted to talk about a little more. I may not seem it but I'm an optimistic person and I like to trryyyyy to see the good in people. I sometimes get a little heated and because I hate myself when I make excuses for my problems I also kind of hate that in other people as well. But that aside I try to help people and listen to problems and offer advice when I can. Ultimately question four could be more broadly generalized to say "is there a problem in humans" but I don't want it any less specialized than what I've asked. From the people I've talked to there's a lot of cynicism in the gay community ABOUT the gay community. But there's a lot of "I wish things were better" and not a lot of "I'm making things better." I want to say I'm on the side of "I'm making things better." When my friends start talking about people behind their backs I stop it or change the subject or walk away letting them know why. Sometimes I think I need another perspective on how I deal with difficult people so I'll ask for help from another person but never in a way to just tear the other person down or spread rumors. (similarly I'll take my problem directly to the person and ask a friend for an opinion afterward).
I try not to surround myself with people who act catty or gossip. Maybe I'm going about it in the wrong way, though. Maybe I should immerse myself in that world in order to make a difference.
Anyways what do you guys think?
Oh!
5) In your culture (this came up because of my hispanic gay friends) is it difficult for you to be gay/come out? I know it can be difficult for anyone, but I know there's a level of expected machismo for my Mexican American friends specifically that makes it especially difficult to come out to their families.
1) If you're just trying to make friends then why does it matter what they look like?
I like to know who people are, and appearance helps me create a mental image of them, a face to the name so to speak.
2) When someone tries to talk to you and they're not appealing to you sexually what is your reaction (specifically they COULD be attracted to you but you don't really know why they're talking to you. Let's assume that they are neither interesting/banal or threatening/creepy.)
Depends on my mood. If I'm at a bar or some such thing I'll talk to them, assuming they're not harassing me (though I've never had that problem before). If I'm busy then I'll say so, if I feel awkward then I'll say so.
The whole grindr thing doesn't really make sense to me. I mean, I understand why people use it, but I just don't get the same kick out of it that some people do, apparently. *shrug*
3) Would it bother you if a gay guy said, "I hate gay culture. Gays are annoying and catty. No wonder people won't let gays get married all over." (why/why not?)
Uh, yeah. That would bother me. It's that kind of straighter-than-thou, I'm-too-good-for-this bull**** that drives me up the wall about the LGBT community, even moreso than any actual or perceived "cattiness". Queer people are people, with different personalities, differing degrees of masculinity and effeminacy, differing degrees of involvement in the community, different passions and careers, different cultures, different socioeconomic backgrounds, different religious faiths. I know many more masculine queer men who otherwise would be involved in the queer community but they don't want to "look bad" if they hang out with a flamer. Why? Does it threaten your pathetic, fragile sense of masculinity? Are you afraid people might think you're *gasp* gay? WHO CARES. As far as I'm concerned, you distancing yourself from the community because you don't fit into a perceived stereotype only serves to perpetuate that goddamned stereotype you hate so goddamn much.
****!
/rant
4) If you perceive there are problems in the gay world do you believe you can make a difference? Would you want to/have you tried?
Yep. I'm actually going to be at the Creating Change conference next month in Baltimore. It's an LGBT social justice conference. As a white, middle-class, able-bodied, cisgender queer man, I realized that if I'm going to fight for equality and justice in the queer community, I need to understand what everyone else's needs are. A trans person of color, or a gay man of the Muslim faith, or a disabled lesbian will all have different needs and different perspectives and thoughts about what their queer identity means to them. I can't just fight for what I perceive they need.
If you mean in terms of social things like cattiness, I consider simply being an out and involved member of the community to be the best anyone can do in that regard. i.e. not withdrawing, see above rant.
5) In your culture (this came up because of my hispanic gay friends) is it difficult for you to be gay/come out? I know it can be difficult for anyone, but I know there's a level of expected machismo for my Mexican American friends specifically that makes it especially difficult to come out to their families.
It's been fairly easy compared to some people I know, although the Roman Catholicism has made it difficult for some people in my family to accept. It's OK though, because I'm probably not going to be coming anywhere near home for grad school, so no worries.
1) If you're just trying to make friends then why does it matter what they look like?
The bigger question is if your profile says "friends only", why do you start the conversation with "hey cutie!" or "how big r u"? In all seriousness, no pic = no conversation for a number of valid reasons. For one, even if you are trying to make friends the sexual angle is still present. For another, I'd still want to make sure the person I'm talking to isn't completely creepy. And finally, presenting a clear, current, and genuine picture of yourself says a lot about you. If you are a confident, happy person then you're going to put yourself out there. If you are going to have no pic, or use one that's incredibly blurry, outdated, stolen, etc., then right off the bat that tells me you've got severe personality flaws and I don't want anything to do with you.
2) When someone tries to talk to you and they're not appealing to you sexually what is your reaction
I'm assuming this is still specifically referring to online communication? In that case, and assuming no other factors involved, I'll probably just ignore the person. Not to out this in a douchey way or anything, but I've got a husband and I've got a pretty solid group of friends. I'm happy to meet cool people/new friends via online stuff if that's how it works out, but the reason I'm talking to someone online is sexual. So if there's no sexual interest, there's no communication interest.
3) Would it bother you if a gay guy said, "I hate gay culture. Gays are annoying and catty. No wonder people won't let gays get married all over." (why/why not?)
Ummm.... hell yes it would? wtf? In a conversation between two gays, simple substitution logic produces the following statement: "I hate our culture. You and I are annoying and catty. No wonder people won't let you or I get married." Not to mention the sheer irony of complaining about a behavior by contribution to it vehemently. If I were to bother responding to one of these jerks, it would be to say "Gay culture is diverse. It isn't just the certain aspects you dislike, it's every common thread gays share and it encompasses more than bars, drugs, sex, and fashion sense. Guess what? You are a part of gay culture. It doesn't just end at your doorstep and you get to decide whether or not to step out into it today. You are always a part of it; you can choose which parts to embrace and which parts to reject, and you can choose what common interests to seek out in others and which to reject. But if all you see when you think of gay culture is negativity, then maybe you're spending too much time in front of the mirror and not enough time making real connections with other people."
/my mf-ing rant
4) If you perceive there are problems in the gay world do you believe you can make a difference? Would you want to/have you tried?
Of course it's possible to make a difference. The real question is how much time and energy are you willing to devote to making a difference. Personally, my interest in making a difference in the gay community extends to striving to have a healthy, balanced life for myself, and encouraging friends and newcomers to do the same. But it ends about there, though I may occasionally poke at negative behaviors I encounter (I'm particularly fond of playing up the fact that I'm gay whenever someone makes anti-gay comments during online games like Starcraft.)
As far as your follow up goes, personally I think you've got it right. I'm of the philosophy that says "be the change"; people tend not to change until they decide to, and the majority of the time you're not going to change anyone's mind for them. I also think that the 'trojan horse' strategy is an interesting angle, but as Mean Girls teaches us, you're more likely to be changed by the people you surround yourself with than you are to change them.
I don't have a particular cultural angle to provide for #5 except to say that being raised Catholic sucks for gays. Oh my, yes...

Pure Awesomeness.

I never did Black Ops, so I never did Nazi Zombies. That said? This is really, really fun. Even in single player. I can imagine that with multiple people, this would get so much better.
Also, Christmas Shopping. Got my little sisters finished, gonna get boots and some sort of jewelry for elder little sis, Mom is getting this awesome Hearbeat Monitor watch (she's studying to be a nurse) and something else. Grandmother is getting fur boots to keep her feet warm, and some sort of chocolate. Then I have sundry other mini-gifts to get.
My helpdesk should you need me.

Rarely. I have the thieve's guild armor so pickpocketing is easier and sometimes I can steal on item while sneaking but usually two or more is caught red handed territory and it's annoying.
Psh. good luck getting my mind out of the gutter.
Yeah maybe. Maybe afraid of not being perfect like in black swan but less crazy and a lot fatter.
The Family
I'm about that level of giant killing. I jump up mountains and explore the crap out of the map but have only accomplished like 7 of the main story quests lol. It was difficult to use the bow at first and it was frustrating in dungeons I couldn't get far enough away to survive
ive found just about all of the rift locations and am working my way to the next hold to do the same.
the graphics in this game are amazing. was a good time for me to jump on the eldar scrolls train IMO.
The Family
But i did get my restoration up high enough so that I could use the perk that lets me heal health and stamina. I highly recommend it if you don't get a lot of potions.
And...ya know hypothetically speaking >_> Did y'all try to get your character to be as hot as possible?

I karaoked a few weeks ago. It was fun as hell, but I sounded terrible due to my winter voice. (Scratchy and cracked. :()
I love the new title.

haha.

What a delicious double meaning.
I don't really play video games and I don't get the whole Skyrim thing. What's the big deal?

My helpdesk should you need me.
Also, one of my friends shared this article with her friends. I found it to be a good read and brought up very good points:
http://goodmenproject.com/ethics-values/mythbusting-bisexual-men/
540 Peasant cube- Gold EditionSomething SpicySigh.

:/ To all my bisexuals here's a big ol bear hug *it's here come get it*
You know what fixes that? skyrim.
Thanks to the [Æther] shop for the sig!
