I'm happy they banned jace, tms. I mean come on 88% of people had play sets in their deck.... Then on top of that when you see a drop in people showing up to FNM and other standard games, they had to do something. As for stoneforge mystic it should have been restricted not banned but im just saying that because i got an event deck.

Couldn't be better said, when 88% of Day 2 decks sport a playset of Jaces, it just can't be any fun, hooray for endless Jace-on-Jace action.
Still Koth or some other mythical crap may explode in price now, I certainly don't miss Standard, if I ever return to Magic, I'll probably play only Limited, €60 singles aren't my thing=)
Haha, you're probably right, I can see blue/white control still working (it certianly took a kick) but mono blue would be difficult... yeah, Caw-blade is unlikely to comeback from the bannings... is that really such a bad thing though?
I bet U/W will just replace the SFM package with something else, like BSA. Remember how people were howling to have that banned too?

"If you don't wear your seatbelt, the police will shoot you in the head."
- To my youngest sister when she was 6.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
I truly am surprised that most people are complaining about how much they lost and moreover how there is a division between competitive players and casual players.
Let's get one thing straight....the game was and is still hemorrhaging players. Zendikar brought people in after lowryn did nothing to help continue to grow the game, and unfortunately there was a push for more powerful cards to attempt to drum up more players.
The thing is they made some cards that were too good. They should have banned jace a while ago, but they didn't, instead they waited for the caw decks to truly become an issue before doing so. And they really became an issue. The standard game was a broken, with numbers exceeding affinity levels and tournament participation at an almost all time low; wizards had to do something to try to fix the game.
So they banned SFM and JTMS.
And now the format will be forced to recalibrate.
Valakut everywhere? Yeah probably. We saw it coming and now we just have to deal with it. As a rug player for the last two years, missing jace means I don't have a deck, but I'm ok with it if it means that the format returns to a healthier format. Is it tough on players that invested money in JTMS? Is it fair to people that just got the four SFM? No of course not, but it's done, so now we move on.
As a competitive player, a "grinder" for those of you that feel the urge to label it, I welcome this change. If only 2% of the playing population returns because of it I welcome it. As a competitive player, I need a game to play, and if magic kept loosing players at the rate it was, and could still be, there wouldn't be much of a game to come back too. It's the right thing to do, and hopefully we will see an increase in deck types that will come from it, and to be fair, there are plenty of ways to deal with trap and valakut, as spell skite comes to mind, as do several other cards.
No, I think this will open some new doors, and make the format more playable for anyone who wants to play it, both in terms of economic capability and power level balance.
My last point is this. INVESTING?? Since when do people invest with the intent to return profitably in magic? It's a card game. Until you go pro, then sign on with a large company, then get paid a salary four playing and writing about it, you cannot and have absolutely NO reasonable expectation of any kind of return. Get real. For those of you who treat this like a job and use the winnings to pay for stuff, like housing and the like I challenge you to this: Why would you ever entrust you livelihood to a game of chance? That seems like the worst form of fiscal irresponsibility I can imagine.
Kinda makes me think of the guy that wins 500.00 bucks and then gambles it away, just knowing he is on a "streak".
It's a game, and like any other game there is the capability of going pro, but the probability of anyone getting there is very minimal. Quit lying to yourself. Even most people that debute on the pro tour don't make it anywhere, after their first appearance. it's an honor to be there but you are guaranteed nothing. The fact that people seem to think they are entitled to it, and because they play in ptq's means that they immediately know what's healthy for the format is funny.
Start doing what I do.. If you are a competitive player, get four of everything so that way you can build whatever you want, despite any surprises and last min tech changes or bans that may arise. The fact that you were so confident in having everything in on caw blade is kinda scary, and if you are this upset now, what the he'll were you going to do in three months anyway?
Well, I failed on turning up more about Garfield. Moving on...
I feel your pain, Grinders. Let me share a little story with you. It may cheer you up.
Once upon a time... there was a little card called DARK CONFIDANT, he was a nice guy and pretty fun in a self-defeating sort of way. He bottomed out to about $8.00-$9.00 for a while and was often overlooked... but look at him now!
Your investment will return, yes, you do have to look at a totally different playground with the ban... but this is life. Literally. Since some of you makes your livin' that way.
You have two choices - GO ROGUE or jump to the next most dominant decktype you'll play. Plenty of people will still want Jace and you'll be able to trade down to get what you want. I wish you all luck with PT(Q)! Flex that brain muscle!
tezzeret agent is going to be the next big blue planeswalker.....jtms was holdin him down.....look for those to skyrocket..
But Tezzeret is....so bad. Despite just getting an artifact block, artifacts are still really weak. There aren't enough good utility artifacts to justify running Tezzeret. The best artifacts in the format are the ones at 5 cmc+, which Tezz does nothing to ramp to. Whiffing on Tezzeret's Impulse is sooo bad.
If anything, Tezzeret decks get weaker without Jace around to protect their name sake. It's a cute build-around-me kind of card, but is never going to be on the same level as Jace.
Puresteel Paladin
Pros CA, metalcraft lets you turn the M12 Greaves into a Mirrodin Greaves, and ability to equip at will.
Cons It costs :symw::symw:
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
Pros CA, unless your deck is not built with more artifacts. Turns any artifact into a 5/5, Lets you drain life.
Cons: Costs :2mana::symu::symb: Most of the time you choose to turn your artifact into a 5/5, at least not broken as JtMS when it comes to CA.
It is possible for these two cards to be in the same deck and produce the same results as the banned cards, seems impossible for now depends on the mana base.
Best Artifacts
Spellskite
Artifact creature version of Clone that any deck can utilized.
The Swords
Batterskull, can't see any decent living weapon out there aside from this one.
Yes, Jace was bad for the format. Yes, Jace made alot of decks die, such as Valukut. Yes, Jace was dominating Standard. But he was what made blue, blue. And was rotating out in 4months anyways.
If JTMS is in 88% of decks, why wasn't Goyf banned (or was it, not playing that long)? From what I understand players way back when splashed just to play him. I own a playset of Jace, but don't run a deck he is useful in, and I wouldn't "splash :symu:" just to play him. Stoneforge, on the other hand, is a good ban. Should have been done when Caw hit the meta, but that is now hind sight especially since WotC knew they were printing another sword. R&D had a complete fail on that one. With less than 4 months left before rotation, they should have left well enough alone. I guess you could make cases for cards that were in Jund, like Bit Blast, Blightning and that nasty elf, but that's an argument that need not be brought up again.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it....
Here is the thing a lot of people are missing. Caw-blade decks were played more than any other deck and winning everything. These caused a lot of people to drop Magic (and made them go back to World of War craft) tell rotation. When wizard finally saw this they knew something had to be done. I’m happy they banned the card that had a (0) costing brainstorm.:D That was the best move for them to do now new player will not get discouraged when starting back up. I myself saw more people for draft last night because of the banning. What does that tell you….
Why didn't they just limit Jace 2.0 and Stone Mystic to 1 copy per deck? So much easier to deal with. I doubt anyone would even want to play Cawblade with one of each.

Stoneforge mystic can still be played only with the event deck and only as is.
Yes less powerful much less powerful, but dead? No.
I have played a mono blue deck without Jace and have top 8'd at FNM.
Grand architect, Coralhelm commander and preordain, plus trinket and treasure mage. Get out with the blue is dead talk from your earlier post.
Also for the those that think Valukut will rule? Please I beg people to bring Valukut I eat it with my side board of Flashfreeze and Archive trap. Keep searching I double dog dare ya.
I have 1 more week left to enjoy Jace at FNM.

Voltaic Key?
I don't think Brainstorm would get a reprint, but maybe a sorcery speed version for 4 mana that fogs the next turn.
