Lets say you send cards to someone and they never send thier end of the trade. That's a rip off.
People with large amounts of references, and especially people who have been around the forum for a while have a lot of reputation to lose. They are less likely to rip you off. I suggest doing trades with them first (they will most likely ask you to send first) until you get enough reputation for questionable people to send thier half first.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
GouGou... pop quiz:
#1. User X would like your 2 Force of Wills and because he really really want them he will give you two Underground Seas. What do you say? Since has more references's you can send first.
#2. Kai Rong is also a new user here and wants to trade $20 worth of Type 2 stuff for $20 worth of your Type 2 stuff. Simultaneous send since you are both new... sounds good?
#3. You buy $20 worth of cards from someone and they demand that you pay with Paypal (gift). Is that a big deal?
#4. You send a couple of top-loaders in a white envelope to North Carolina. It's been 2 weeks. What's up?
(Oh, and this is meant to be fun... just to see if you can spot the scam. :p)
HEy, if you can tell me why each of the 4 is a set up, you'll get a cookie.
#1. User X would like your 2 Force of Wills and because he really really want them he will give you two Underground Seas. What do you say? Since has more references's you can send first.
If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
#2. Kai Rong is also a new user here and wants to trade $20 worth of Type 2 stuff for $20 worth of your Type 2 stuff. Simultaneous send since you are both new... sounds good?
New rippers will generally prey on newer members as well, in order to set up a simul-send situation.
#3. You buy $20 worth of cards from someone and they demand that you pay with Paypal (gift). Is that a big deal?
Gift PP can't be disputed after the fact.
#4. You send a couple of top-loaders in a white envelope to North Carolina. It's been 2 weeks. What's up?
Rippers will use the fact that you didn't use delivery confirmation against you in order to "reverse-rip", as it were.

#1 - Rule #1 in life: If it's too good to be true, it probably is. People will woo you with a deal to disarm your common sense.
#2 - Rule #2 is: There are a lot of wolves in wolves clothing, people just don't bother to look...Check the Rip List.
#3 - Yeah. You just gave home boy $20. I always pay the fees. ALWAYS. We spend money on cards and get all cheap and thrifty with Paypal fees?? Go here and look at how much it costs.... It ain't much. And if someone demands that I pay with gift I make sure I pay with fees so they get exactly the amount agreed upon.
#4 - GouGou live in Canada and Canada is NOT the 51st state in the US. It's another country and if you mail a package as a letter (thickness of a couple top loaders can do it) apparently customs freaks out, stalls the letter, and it can get lost. I don't know what forms Canadians have to use, but I will always over package my cards to Canada and get a CN22 form from the post office. It's not Delivery Confirmation, but it does provide a paper trail that can prove that I mailed ~something~ to that guy up north.
If i am trading you a Requiem Angel and I ask for a tree of redemption, you are jyped off 100% if you hold ANY value to tree of redemption.
Tree of Redemption is the best card in the new version of type 2 with DA IMO. And thus also most other persons understand the same thing. As in all trading card games VALUE is in the cards at a cost that does exist. For instance I played SW:TCG long ago- the first one to be made. Darth Vader was far less valuable than a Luke Skywalker, although the official value was said to be darth vader>luke skywalker. Because he changes value too over time, the value is said to be official.
So if you can understand that requim angel does change value if it could be said to be a 10 dollar card, tree could be worth 5 dollars if you depend on holding any value to the tree.
If it is said as recognized that these values already exist- which they do- then you are getting jypped professionally and way way badly if you can understand this value system. I don't know if it exists, but I can tell you that because you can understand trade values do, you can see that they should and that is how you gyp somebody off bad. So watch out for it. More importantly those values are actually real, since it's priced at a .0 percentage. The dollar value of cards is sometimes equivilent to their trade value. The "real" value is NOT what trades on ebay or whatever for 5 dollars more than the regular.
Ex. Sorin lord of innistrad is worth like 50$. His foil is worth either 500 or 200. In general this value is not given. I value him at about 100-500 dollars in actual value since the foil doubles the value. Cards are valued in doubles in that way. So the official version is? Darth vader is the same as luke skywalker. You can't make up that value very easily.
If I priced the value that is printed on them at the time that they come out like "any other card game" (baseball cards, football cards etc?!) they will NOT be the same values EVER because that value does nor will ever exist.
But- the value does change immediately since they constantly go up and go down. And this "price value" scale is the correct price value of cards not offically recognized as not trading cards. As far as I have last checked. Black lotus is valued at it's approximate "INTAKE VALUE" - meaning the concern given to price lists is litterally removed and re-scaled you would think.
But I believe there is a re-scale value there for the actual price value of cards that have a reprinted or manipulated value to begin with. If they have a manipulated value- only you could ask the question. But it is the only thing that a person can judge any card value that he has of his or her own cards, and thus yes- each and every card is given an approximate 'rarity' which prices itself and does go up and or down depending on the value given by the players. "Power to the players" and whatnot,
but that value seems to be a reality and not not the case with respect to trading either btw.

Sorin, LoA is worth 35 fmv, and foil has stayed at 100 since release... If you value him at 500, then your paying way way way too much. 500 is a Beta Plateau.... not a Sorin.

Btw can you give me a confirmative? I believe they said they would value him at 80$? Can you give a confirmation?

And again, do you play pokemon? It seems like if you play pokemon, you'd get a box of worldwake for under 25 cents? Does it come at extra cost? Btw, how much is wall mart worth today? The YMCA is pretty hot yes?! I usually have a FOIL QUI-GON JINN WITH LIGHTSABER (SW:TCG) on the front page of my trading binder. He is valued at approximately 14million dollars.
If you are disputing his value, go to ebay and (again) get ripped off.
You asked the question so you've recieved the answer. And you do NOT find trading card prices EVER printed in books that are valuing them. This is why their value is being discussed.
Considering both posters above this one are yours I'd be a little confused myself.
No actually I'm just being smart because you seem REALLY ... a lot like a huge jokeoff mister. In truth, you'd be wrong to say anything first of any cards real value. Then admit thta you do not care about the discussion of trading card value?
This is what this post says.
By the way, you should probably retract this post of a mod sees you posting this they may want to lock the thread.
Hey by the way I found the discussion throughly interesting until the point that we're asked to clarify once again the reason why I'm posting in it.
If there is "a trading card value" system it would probably be a part of the YMCA. And buddy listen I am so sorry but I am not interested in that whatsoever. I'm interested in what card value has to do with "card worth" which is the same thing as trading materials locked up in a binder somewhere.
Unless you play pokemon, this is the arguement aimed and operated at targeting this thread, simply by reflection on the posts like this one above.

Did you ever read the forum rules?

Repeated Bad Spelling and/or Grammar
Continuous bad grammar, "text speak" or bad spelling in posts will not be tolerated.

You're completely incoherent, but obviously a troll, so it's alright.
EDIT: Er, I guess I should address the main topic instead of just feeding the troll. It's pretty much all been said already. Make sure things aren't too good to be true. Try to trade mainly with people with good reputations and a lot of feedback. If someone with very little feedback wants to trade, make sure they send you the card first.

I do not abide forum rules that are intentionally made so that they are the product of some head. You're not my boss so that is actually fine.
By the way I will love to see another version of you. You have so many usernames that I'm beginning to wonder when the bot popps up and bans every user with a misspelt username. When is adequacy related to stage fright either btw? And when are you going to go and create another Television Movie?
You could do TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES with chicks yes?

that's something valeaubale.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Im just going to mention this: Feeding the trolls is usually the last thing you want, just gonna hit report and let the staff handle this.
On to the topic at hand, I can understand examples 1,2,3 as blatant ripoffs, number 4 however i would be more likely to be lenient on as a failure in communication or delay in the delivery service, over here a package sent by regular mail service would take over a month to arrive and deliver, hell even a private delivery company like fedex or DHL or the like would take at least 2-3 weeks to deliver over here so im much more likely to be lenient on the delivery time, i suppose that makes me a gullible idiot which is why i dont trade internationally.
Basically like others have mentioned, the golden rule applies: If it sounds to good to be true it most likely is.

Check peoples iTrader rating and post count/ time as a member etc.
Someone with a ton of positive feedback and a long time as a member probably isn't going to risk their account/ good name for a tiny bit of money.
(I think iTrader rating is only visible when someone posts on the market forum)
Good sellers send with Delivery Confirmation at least. (Insurance if cards are worth a lot.)
Do the same if you sell cards. Without a tracking number, you have no way of proving you ever mailed anything.
I've found that, if you are getting ripped off, it is fairly obvious at some point.
Once your money/ cards are sent, the ripper usually stops responding right away,
or starts in on some story about how they were out of town and had their girlfriend/ roommate send the cards so they "should be there let me ask her when she sent them."
And yeah if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
I don't send "Gift" paypal payments to anyone who doesn't have really good feedback.
Because its a gift, the person is not required to send anything and you are not protected like you would be if you used Paypal for payment of goods/ services.
There is not a smiley to express what I am feeling after reading through this thread. Part of me is weirded out. Part of me is highly entertained. Part of me is glad that the thread wasn't locked, because that means the zaniness can continue.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
I guess my issue with the trading community is that I would participate in order to find a good deal (not a great or unfair deal). But I imagine, after reading through this thread, deals are not to be had in the MTG community.
Am I reading this right? Or, does "too good to be true" only cover a greater value disparity? My thinking is that I would be getting a 50% return on selling a card to a shop (if they want it). My purpose in selling a card here would be to try and approach a card's 80% value.
Would a 20% discount on a card seem to be too good to be true?

The answer is: is the 80% you're looking for less than eBay? If people can just go to a known auction vendor and get it for the same price, they will. Selling online to anyone other than a store generally means you are competing with that enormous auction site, so your sell price needs to be competitive with them. 80% of eBay is pretty darn competitive. 20$ vs 25$ would be enough to make me consider another vendor for sure.
(I know talk of eBay is a no-no in other parts of the site. I hope using their name here for this purpose is alright. If not, mods let me know.)

Unless you play pokemon, this is the arguement aimed and operated at targeting this thread, simply by reflection on the posts like this one above.
thanks
Did you ever read the forum rules?

Infraction for trolling. Last call. r~
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
