I think that the shocks getting a reprint would make $20 a floor for the U/x fetches. I'd put a ceiling at about $25-27 through the end of Modern season.

Pile A - Cavern is probably going to lose value once Mana Leak leaves Standard and permission is reduced to either 3 mana or conditional counterspells. Kira is nice, but it's not particularly widely played either. Master is still being opened, and only 'Folk is going to play him - I don't see his long-term prospects being good, even if he is strictly better than Lord of Atlantis. Finally, Masticore is a throw in.
Meanwhile, Snapcaster is playable from EDH to Standard and clear to Vintage, has been admitted as a mistake, and won't be reprinted. Mox Diamond is only going up, as it's fair in Legacy and not getting banned anytime soon (plus, it has the word "mox" in the name). Breach is poised for a resurgence come Modern season, and Resto-Angel is a standard and Modern all-star already. I see B going nowhere but down and A nowhere but up.

Not sure if this is the right place for this. If not, i'm sorry and mods please move it. anyway, i'm really fighting with myself about a trade that i'm considering doing. anyway the trade is
Yes i really want the promo. Niv was my first edh general and it would be so sweet to pop that card on the table, but for 4 wastelands?? I'm just not sure. I don't play vintage or legacy, just casual cards at the table, so the wastelands are really nothing more than trade bait. So, what would you guys do???

If you are concerned about value, no. You are giving up about $80 in value.
If you REALLY want the Niv, and aren't planning on using the Wastelands, and, it seems you will definitely be using the Niv, then, yes. Go ahead.
Regardless of the dollar value of the cards, if they are just sitting in your trade folder doing nothing they are barely worth the paper they are printed on. If you are fishing for value trades, this would not be it.
Basically, just how much is the Niv worth to you?

When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
So money wise you are way on the losing end. The niv-Mozzetta is worth less than 3 wastelands. And that's not even factoring in the fact your trading 4 legacy staples, and one of the must have staple to play most decks, for an extremely over priced EDH foil...
If it was me i would have laighed at the trade offer and said see you later. however they are your cards. If your never going to use wasteland and you desperately want that niv-mizzet that's your call. At the end of the day magic is a game. Use and aquire the cards that you enjoy playing, or what's the point in playing at all.
Personally I wouldn't go for it. I'd see if maybe they would settle for 2 Wastelands and another money card or two, or see if they'll throw in another 80 bucks worth of value, Force or something.
Giving up a playset of such a major staple for something that amounts to little more than a blinged out general doesn't sit well with me. But they are your cards.
dont do it... If the full art niv is worth that much to you, i suggest you buy one elsewhere, wasteland is not a cheap card, and that Niv is probably not worth it, (IVG has better art TBH) Although the full art niv is Awesome, it's probably in your better interest to keep the wastelands, or sell them for cash, then use said cash to buy nivvy AND something you will find worthwhile.
As the poster above me said (barring starcity prices) you're out on $80 worth of value, for a card that isn't all that exciting. (dont get me wrong, i have a niv deck that uses that exact version of niv, but it's MTGO, so the card was like $3, compared to $120.)

I think you guys aren't taking a few things into consideration. The promo Niv is harder to find than the wastelands, and it's currently sitting at $150, not $120 (okay, go ahead and buy the out of stock card from SCG for $120, I dare you).
Also, his wastelands, like most wastelands are likely not mint, so we're probably talking more like $190 for the set.
You're losing about $40... maybe $60 if you could find a cheaper Niv (one on ebay for $140 right now) and if your value your wastelands a little better condition wise.
All in all, I'd counter offer 3 wastelands for the Niv if you don't need the wastelands, and want the Niv. Feel free to quote him the price of $120 for the niv, and the $50 for the wastelands too. But the real question to ponder is, are you sure you want to walk away from your wastelands? I sold my playset for $40 about 6 years ago (or so). I still cry my self to sleep over that one. They're only going to go up (until FTV Realms breaks the reprint policy :P)
yeah try to argue down to 3 or get him to add stuff to cover the 4th.
I wouldn't give up a set for a champs niv and I'm a dragon collector and that is one of the few foils I'm missing. Even wanting it that bad I wouldn't take a huge hit for it.
His short $35-$50 depending on your wastelands' condition.

Yeah but we are taking into account arguably the most important conditions A) how highly he values the niv-mizzet and B) whether or not niv is harder to find is beside the point. Wasteland is far more playable and in much higher demand than the promo niv.
Thanks guys. I really didn't want to do it, and this has kinda made my mind up.

The wasteland owners is getting wrecked here. By about 10-15 dollars. Neither side has the 'Hard to find' bump that would make one side be in favor of the other If pile B really needs forces go for it I guess but it's too rich for my blood.
EX wastelands are about 45
Force: 60
snap and misdirection - 18 each
misty 13 but you can probably find these for ten in trades
Right now it seems good, but I have a feeling bonfire is going to be dropping in price, it sees no play outside standard.
So, I like the bonfire a bit here. It may only be played in standard, but, currently, it is something of a defining card. Resto's awesome, but there are a lot of them around.

It's a really tough call, but I think I personally would be happier with the Resto Angels - they seem like a stronger card on the whole, and are a lot less situational. Bonfire is really only good in this particular meta - the one with a lot of low-toughness creatures in swarms.

Unless you can get rid of the Bonfire immediately at full value, hold onto the Restos. As you said, Bonfire will be declining in price and while there are a lot of Restos out there, it's also an extremely popular and sought-after card. You're less likely to lose on investment by keeping them and it's also easier to do trades in increments of about $10-13 than it is to try to push a $40 card that everyone knows will drop.

It looks like B comes out on top in terms of value. However, I think I'd rather have the stuff in pile A, based on preference and availability.
Value is pretty even, but I like Pile A. Master of the Pearl Trident is a POS, and Molten-Tail is a free toss-in. If you need Caverns, take Pile B.
Pile A won't build you any viable decks, but it's just great all-around, cross-format trade bait.
