I'm sick at myself. I pulled 5 from packs. stupidly traded one away before knowing its worth and the other I sold when its price was lower. I guess I should be still happy I have 3
I never understood the whole MTGO redeem flooding the market thing. From what I understand, places like MtGOtraders use their stock to fulfill these requests, so its not like WotC is putting more into the market from their production. The same amount is out there, but Its more like the people who target cards this way get their playset/copy and demand is filled for the time being. Please correct me if I'm wrong though, I'd like to understand it better.
It comes down to arbitrage. If you have a bot and can buy a set of INN for 100 tix online, without any time investment, when the paper cards are worth $150 IRL, you basically have a license to print money. Drafting is very popular on MTGO in general and Innistrad was especially popular, so this results in a lot more packs being opened and therefore a very different supply/demand relationship online when contrasted to paper. Hence the abitrage opportunity.
The reason why MTGO set redemptions can function as price control is the timing around doing so. Standard-legal cards tend to go up in value from October to February or so. There's several reasons for this - the last block goes out of print, more people want the cards for States/Standard PTQ season, the smaller format means that there's generally only 2-3 "best decks", etc. So what savvy dealers do is pick up MTGO sets when their value is lowest (i.e. while the cards are block-legal and being drafted), hoard them for a few months, and redeem them when the arbitrage opportunity presents itself.
This is basically the high-level explanation. I've never actually done this myself because I lack the capital, so my understanding is somewhat limited. But the financial principals behind why people do it are obviously pretty sound.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
The Innistrad duals have started their climb. Would be curious to see an update on this thread from Rancored or Jeff.
The Woodland Cemetery appears to be up to $9 now on Ebay, with Sulfur Falls heading up too. Shame that we have to wait for Gatecrash before the Clifftop Retreat, Isolated Chapel, and Hinterland Harbor head up.
Though Im in a hurry. Ask and you shall receive, at the very least a quickie update, hehe. These prices in particular came straight from ebay buy it nows, so just keep that in mind.

The ranges for the duals are taking into account that all it would take is one or two more buy it now listings to be bought before the price would go up higher than the low end. If you all remember what happenned to the scars duals. this is exactly whats happenning and going to happen to the innistrad duals if this keeps up. The supply of this set may be large due to how much it was openned, but inevitably the playerbase is constantly growing, there are a lot more players now than there were a year ago, and if innistrad was openned a ton, just imagine how much RTR will get openned, and if what Ive heard from players is any indication, standard is going to explode in popularity here shortly with a ton of currently on break, and a ton of old players coming back in because of RTR. I honestly wouldnt have fathomed Woodland Cemetery being this high, well .... ever :p. But here we are, and it still looks to be going up.

The card I see with the most potential on the list is Stromkirk Noble. Between Rackdos and Boros in Gatecrash this guy will find a home in a red based aggro deck.
Ash Zealot (best seller on SCG) and Rakdos Cackler is making RDW more and more viable.
(Key: The card's most recent move is on the right. This indicates the hottest mover of the update. indicates no movement. is a card that wasn't on the list last update. Data is from here.)
The Vampires had their day about a month ago, but for some reason, Olivia waited until now to shoot up. Likewise, the dual lands had already doubled in price last update, and were all stable between then and now... except Woodland Cemetery, which went and doubled in price AGAIN to $12. Oh yeah, Snapcaster Mage and Liliana switched places leaving Liliana on top and Snapcaster at 3rd, just under Geist.
Don't know if it is frowned upon to bump this, but Stromkirk Noble seems to be moving. Channelfireball were sold out last night and slightly bumped their price now.
Starcitygames are sold out now.
I believe this guy will double in price up to 6 quite soon.
Currently at SCG the number one seller is Ash Zealot, the number two seller is Rackdos Cackler, and the number five seller is Stromkirk Noble. Noble is still only $2.5. Better pick them up before they double in price.
I dont see how red deck wins can ever be good with most decklists starting with 4x thragtusk
Winning before they get to 5 mana. I have seen alot of the rites decks coming our out of states not having any accleration and just defense and card draw until they rites on turn 4 or this on thragtusk on turn 5. This format is getting slow.
On the play you might get an Aristocrat on turn 4 or Hellkite on 5 that ends it before they do anything. And frankly Zealous Conscripts never looked so good ramming someones value buffalo back in their face.
Yeah, cause the thragtusk decks first play of the game is going to be on turn 5 right? Good luck winning on turn 5 if your opponent leads with any early play, into thragtusk. Especially when most of the thragtusk decks are playing centaur healer now.
The thing about RDW is that it is so popular even if it is not a tier 1 deck, as long as it is playable people will flock to it. So sooner or later stromkirk and ash zealot will reach the $6-$8 range.

I am not saying that it is their first play of the game but I have seen plenty of decks in the states list that are dropping all their elves. Frites decks, midrange etc.
If RDW can't beat a little life game than it doesn't deserve to win but if decks out there assume that a third turn 3/3 gamin 3 life or a couple 1/1 flyers is enough interaction before the buffalo hits...... I don't think so.

Parallel Lives made a first appearance on the tally, and Stromkirk Noble returned to the tally after an absense. 14 cards are now above $3 and therefore worth opening in a booster pack!
Geist jumped from $20 to $30, overtaking first place this update. Liliana remained strong in the low 20s, with Snapcaster just below it. Olivia Voldaren, which wasn't even on the tally during the summer months, suddenly jumps up yet again to $16 - holy crap! The rare land cycle held value and in some cases gained a buck, so they continue to clog up the middle of the tally. Parallel Lives rides onto the tally on the strength of all the token cards continuously printed over the past year, including in RTR.
Diregraf Ghoul and Invisible Stalker are perhaps the most notable uncommons in the set although they're both worth less than a buck.
Innistrad's box value has been stable over the past 2 months and it remains one of the better sets in Standard.
Wait how is above $3 worth opening a booster pack? The last time a pack cost that much was like 5 years ago unless you're buying a moderately discounted box.

Most stores discount their packs and boxes so that it would end up at around $3/pack. For RE, that would be around $100-$110/box (approx $3 per pack). Which is likely where that number comes from. Different areas may discount less of course, but thats where that comes from at the very least.

If you were to do a list for the Running Tally threads, you could choose your own cutoff point. I used to just do $2.50 and above, and at some points I simply listed the top 20, regardless of what dollar values they were. About a year ago, I decided on the "if the card is worth as much as (or more than) the price of the booster I pulled it from" criteria, and have stuck with it since.
I pay $3.10 CND (currently $3.15 USD) per booster pack. I only get them that cheap because I have a good relationship with the supplier, because I buy in large quantities (1 or more cases at a time), and because I pay in cash, up front. Retail here is $4 and up.
I wish I could pay just over $2 per pack as most singles sellers in the US do, but that's just the cost of doing business for non-Americans. (Not to mention, I pay 12% HST on everything I buy, postage is about twice the cost, PayPal and eBay fees are higher, and so forth... but that's another matter.)
