As I said, I like creative ideas, but when you're spicing a steak, you can't just upend an entire bottle of Salt over it and then sprinkle Nutmeg on top, that'd be a disgusting steak. What you gotta do is add small amounts of cool things to the mix, otherwise it'll just confuse and distress the reader. "What is this I don't even", if you will.
Now, an enchantment land that looked like this:
Sup O Enchantment Land T: Add 1 to your mana pool. ,T Double the amount of green mana in your mana pool.
That would be something I could understand and wrap my head around. All that stuff that I scraped off just clogs it up, in my opinion.
It means that at some point this month you'd either forgotten to vote, or you'd voted but didn't vote for exactly two people.
It's basically a reminder that if it happens again, your card for that day will get skipped.
Okay, thx!
I don't think I ever voted for too many or too few ppl, but I believe I missed one of the days earlier this month, neither posting a card nor voting. I thought you'd only get a warning if you post a card without voting, which I never did (although once I posted my votings with my card because the poll was closed already)
are enchantment lands safer to print than artifact lands? i suppose they are for now as long as affinity for enchantments doesn't yet exist
Most likely yeah. There's not too much abusive cards for enchantments out there, so it's probably going to be okay - but enchantments are also easy to tutor, so that could mess with it a little. Basically, white would have quite a bit more mana acceleration than it currently has, while also being the color with most removal.
Inspired by cube drafts on modo. I wanted to do a 1 mana artifact that tapped for 1, but then I remembered affinity, so I went with the Monolith drawback.
I really like the Remnant mechanic Icareal used on his submission for the 20th; I wish I could vote for three people today. I just think the card it was used on isn't as elegant as Uncle Istvan's or CrazyMatt's.
By the way, it's really hard to design instants and sorceries, especially red ones, so props to CrazyMatt for his.

To be honest, I already posted that card in DCC a few months back with the same name except it costs :2mana::symr:, uncommon, and only requires combat damage and it only hits your opponents and creatures they control. So its a better version of that card, the only prevention is get rid of the target creature in any manner, prevent the damage it would deal, or counter the spell.

Hey, I voted for Istvan and CrazyMatt too, so I pretty much agree with you. That said, I'd like to know where I'd gone wrong in the elegance department.

I voted for the card because it was a cool effect, but I was going to suggest that it both cost 2R and hit everyones' creatures, so as not to be so powerful. That's just me, and I tend to cost things too high.

Well, the Remnant mechanic right now is pretty confusing. Firstly, I think you have to specifically state that the creature coming is no longer an enchantment, because right now it may just come back as an Enchantment Creature. (If it was your intention to have it come back as an Enchantment Creature, it's too strong.) Next, when you say "when this dies" you should include an "if this was a creature" clause, to prevent confusion. Can an enchantment die? It goes to the graveyard! Perhaps you and I know that "dying" is a creature thing only, but the large numbers of kitchen table players may not. Also having it come back as a totally different type forces the player to actively ignore certain parts of the card, while still following others. It could work, but this is a very confusing premise and this card specifically requires ignoring power and toughness and multiple combat abilities.
As for this specific card itself, the reanimation clause is good, and I like the sacrificing part, but it requires a good bit of memory, remembering which creatures I brought back with this thing. Maybe make the creatures come back as a certain type, or with some kind of counter on them. At this point the text box is getting very full too.
I like the Remnant mechanic's flavor, but it definitely needs reworking, and if the creature is just coming back as an enchantment, ask yourself how this mechanic can be cleaner than just using a double-faced card.
Sorry, if I went on a Magic tirade, just wanted to give my two cents. Ignore all that if you want.
^ I actually hadn't considered any of that, except the comparison between Remnant and double faced cards. I think Remnant is clearly better in that it eliminates the need for redundant text on the other side of the card. The mechanic itself, while it might have some wording issues, is very good at solving the whole "on a stick" dilemma. Is Phyrexian Revoker better than Pithing Needle, or the other way around? Revoker gives you a 2/1 body, but Pithing Needle is harder to kill and, therefore, is better at doing its job. Something with Remnant lets you keep your effect around after the fragile "stick" dies.
I think the mistake you made, Icarael, was in the way you compensated for how powerful an ability Remnant is. Your submission was designed to have an effect that would reset itself if the creature died, but that just wound up making the card clunky. Giving Remnant a cost, which you did, should be enough to ensure that it's a balanced mechanic.

Lol, Xithria has insane bravado. (Nerd points for anybody who understood what I just said.)
As for Remnant, I like it, but it reminds me a bit too much of the various Persist variants that are floating around, using "and it's an enchantment" instead of "with a death counter". If I were going to design it, I'd make it something similar to Forecast, like so:
Glorious Anthem Variant2WW
Enchantment Creature - Lord R
Flying, vigilance
Remnant 1W — Other creatures you control get +1/+1. (When this creature dies, if it's a creature, you may pay 1W. If you do, put an enchantment token with this ability onto the battlefield.)
3/4
@Rithaniel: That's perfect! I'm gonna use that from now on instead. Thanks!
Although maybe this would be a better wording:
Remnant X -- <ability> (When this creature dies, if it's a creature, you may pay X. If you do, put an enchantment token with this ability and this creature's colors onto the battlefield.)
Xithria, the Core Arisen
Legendary Creature - Eldrazi (M)
Whenever a spell or ability that doesn't target Xithria, the Core Arisen would make it leave the battlefield, it doesn't instead.
Whenever Xithria leaves the battlefield, destroy all permanents and planeswalk away from the current plane.
7/7
this is a more appealing plane-related card. i'd just replace "make it leave the battlefield" with "cause Xithria, the Core Arisen to leave the battlefield," based on Torpor Orb.
consider that some voters may not approve of an Eldrazi that doesn't have annihilator

MaRo did say that next time we see Eldrazi that they wouldn't have annihilator. So, I am going with that premise for the new Eldrazi that appear in my set.
Edit: Soon there will be a day when only MDenham and I will post a card and then you'll have to vote for my card, mwahahahaha!
And the only reason I didn't vote for it is because I won't vote for Auras that leave off the "Enchant X" line, or any other card that's grossly mistemplated.
BTW, folks, get ready to fire up your Photoshop and/or Paint skills on August 1st.
Also, I would be thoroughly pleased if UncleIstvan came out to win the whole damn thing in the next few days. This months has been a pretty fantastic competition!
Yeah this is pretty neck and neck race up at the top. I think that you other guys up top have perhaps been more consistent than me though, so we'll see what happens. This has indeed been quite fun! There have been some really great cards posted by everyone this month.
Uncanny Academy
Land (R)
You can't play Uncanny Academy unless you reveal five blue cards from your hand.
:symtap:: Add to your mana pool.
:symtap:: Draw a card.
believe it or not, this card is broken. even though it's broken it encourages its owner to keep a land-light hand, which probably isn't something a card should promote.
Phoenix Flare
Instant (R)
Erupt 3 (At the beginning of your upkeep, if this card is in your graveyard, put an erupt counter on it. If there are three or more erupt counters on this card, return it from your graveyard to your hand.)
Phoenix Flare deals 2 damage to target creature or player and the damage can't be prevented.
oh, dude, we so in snyc. i've both used this same card name and came up with a mechanic that returns things from graveyards over the course of upkeeps using counters. great minds and all that
I might not be able to host the MCC next month when the DCC this month literally gives me a heart attack.
Seriously, I can't deal with the pressure. Also, the fact that there is a 3 way tie right now for today is killing me.
Note for Rudyard: While I love your card, and indeed voted for it because it is a card that should exist some day, it needs to cost more. Providing a body to every Equipment that EtB is a really really powerful effect.
Now, an enchantment land that looked like this:

Heads up there Atrius: Grip of Chaos.
Woah woah woah. Harsh man. On a related note: :ria::dance::ria::dance:
Okay, thx!
