Clearly I didn't acomplished the seduction task with you ppl today. I felt really confident about my entry today, but it seems there's a problem I can't see. Any thoughts?
If you're talking about the current polling card, I voted for it... *shrug*
To be honest, my problem with it is that it only copies one of those at a time, and it's a little annoying that it can't be turned on/off during the course of the turn by putting something else appropriate out.
I can deal with the first part - it's pretty good if it copies all of them - but the second one's easier to fix ("Until your next upkeep, this has that ability as long as you control another creature with that ability." in place of the existing last sentence), and it gives me the option of turning on an ability later in the turn just by dropping something with the selected ability.
I see your point... But, maybe, just maybe... couldn't you be expecting this 3/2 uncommon dude to do more than what's enough, or more than what it's able to give you for it's cost? To be honest, I didn't considered him to have an on/off switch, and I think I didn't because the way it is right now feels enough a deal for me (what leads me now to wonder about my gamer psychography: Could I be a conformist player?)
Anyway, to be sure how much this dude could get from his mimic ability without turning into a public menace, I'm sure we would need to playtest more than speculate. Who knows... Now I think about it, giving him the chance to don't turn it off or changing the ability by another one, but to be able to turn it on later would be cool without pushing so up the power level. Or would it? Many questions, few certainties.
@Flabort: "including both Hexproof and Shroud as options; one may be strictly worse than the other, but sometimes you don't have a hexproof creature to copy." Ding! That's the point, my friend.
And not, mimic isn't meant to be an evergreen keyword (not sooner at least.) It could be if, through time, the collective unconscious incorporates the list by heart (including the routine of checking any updates in such list.) If not, well, it as a so large reminder text that would narrow the design posibilities in a way nobody likes.
I'm starting to ramble, I think. Need to sleep.
Oh, LnGrrrR, thanks for the vote.
EDIT:
Now, after a good sleep and a yummy meal, I would like to expose the following:
It wouldn't be so complicated to tweak the mimic concept in a way that its reminder doesn't attempt on the design posibilities in a card's space:
Let's say we take the informal concept of evergreen abilities and formalize it, through including it in the rules. So, the card example would look like the following:
Soulreader Empath :symg::symu:
Creature - Shapeshifter Mutant U
Mimic (At the beginning of your upkeep, choose an evergreen ability. This creature gains that ability until your next upkeep if you control another creature with that ability.)
3/2
Beside the punctual aspects of mimic in its first draft, the general idea is that we now recovered a lot of space in the textbox for design.
Since the design behind mimic pushes itself into the list of evergreen abilities, it would be wise to add the following:
Mimic (At the beginning of your upkeep, choose an evergreen ability other than mimic. This creature gains that ability until your next upkeep if you control another creature with that ability.)
Or... we can just leave mimic outside the evergreen list. I personally feel mimic as a good evergreen cadidate.
We just need to stablish the list of evergreen abilities (some, like shorud and fear would be subject to debate), and that's it.
Soulreader Empath :symg::symu:
Creature - Shapeshifter Mutant U
Mimic (At the beginning of your upkeep, choose flying, first strike, double strike, deathtouch, haste, hexproof, intimidate, landwalk, lifelink, protection, reach, trample, shroud, or vigilance. This creature gains that ability until your next upkeep if you control another creature with that ability.)
3/2

I love Oculus's card today. That should be in print.
Wow, I somehow managed to misread/skip over that one when looking at today's submissions for voting. I won't change my vote, though, that doesn't seem fair, but I will second that it seems like an excellently designed and elegant card.
Edit: For a name, though, I think I'd prefer "Corpse Claim." Like a necromancer has reserved the creature's body for their personal use.
I'm going to be away from a computer for I'm not sure how long, so if someone would get the thread up around 2-3pm Pacific, that'd be greatly appreciated.
OK, sorry I missed your card...
I really need to be more thorough when looking for cards to vote for.
It's not bad - the ability, that is. Of course, both creatures WILL always share the "Creature" type with it... Perhaps you meant subtype.
encouragement NOT to play tribal is a new thing. At least, I haven't seen it before.
Perhaps it's not the mechanic, but the card itself. Or more likely, it's not in a position that catches the eye.
Mine rarely get any votes. I wouldn't worry if yours don't, either.

This is wrong, creatures types refer always to those subtypes you mentioned. Creature is a card type, not the same. The ability is worded correctly.
(And I like it, but the cards were never that appealing. At least to steal a vote from others. As I already said, DCC seems to be much about luck of having your good card in a day of not so good cards from others.)

Tribal is a very popular mechanic, so "anti-tribal" doesn't seem like it would go over that well. Rewarding you for diversity among your creatures is an interesting concept, but would probably be implemented better as something counting the number of creature types among creatures you control, rather than specifying there not be any duplicates.
The point of the card was to be a black "flicker" card that goes through the graveyard instead of through exile. I believe I sort of got Turn to Mist and the new Cloudshift card mixed up in my head when costing it, but I'm happy with it as it is. I like the idea that the creature just sort of pops into the grave then steps right back out. I'd be happy with "flickering" back in at end of turn, but forgot to consider that when I'd made the card.
The biggest problem I have with the "anti-tribal" mechanic you used is that it isn't a "positive" goal to meet (turning on once you've met a particular goal) but a "negative" one (it will turn on unless you do something that it tells you not to do). I don't know many people who would naturally be excited to build a deck based around not duplicating creature types, either; tribal effects build on people's natural tendencies to want to group together similar things. A mechanic that encourages you to fight against a natural tendency is not as good a way to get people to enjoy it and want to have fun playing with it.
