I can take criticism just fine. That's the not the issue. In fact, I appreciate criticism - but only decent well thought out criticism. I totally agree with what Maokun said earlier about my card, about 75% of what Eventide said about it, and some of what a couple others said. But a good majority of it doesn't make sense. Like the guy who said my card should have just used the landfall keyword last round who obviously didn't read that it wasn't landfall since it triggered on anyone's land drop.
Also, according to the critiques I've been getting, your solution about the monster getting bigger from landfall does *not* count as a mechanical tie. I don't understand why the hell not, but the critiques this round showed that to be the unanimous opinion.
Anyway, I'm dropping also because I'm too far behind in points to catch up and I just don't feel like spending the time to write the critiques and top 3 in just to get kicked out next round anyway.
You have more points than I do currently. Why not at least stick around to see how much closer you can get? I think there's still a chance. Though, im a little confused as to how the scores are being tallied. Looking at the huge differences between peoples scores doesnt help much.

Though, im a little confused as to how the scores are being tallied. Looking at the huge differences between peoples scores doesnt help much.
This confused me when I first started, too.
It goes like this:
You get 3 points for each time a player gives you #1.
You get 2 points for each time a player gives you #2.
You get 1 point for each time a player gives you #3.
You get 1 point for writing Critiques.
You get 1 point for assigning Top 3.
And then your score for the round is the percentage of how many points are possible (if every critiquing player gives you #1, and you do the crits/top 3) vs how many you actually got.
So, 5 players doing critiques = 17 total points (3 from each player = 15, and 2 for crits/top 3). So of those 5 players, if you get 2 first places and a third place, and do the crits/top 3, you get (+3 +3 +1 +1 +1 = 9/17 = 53 points)
Keep in mind you're doing this for fun. If you're not having fun, then that's a good enough reason to drop.
This. I also do these games to be a better designer, but shoddy critiques offer nothing towards that.
Actually, this month I'm not offering points for top3s but only for critiques, because top3s are an integral part of the contest which keep the game running. As such, they shouldn't be rewarded per se but rather, the players who fail to submit them need to be penalized (which is what I'm doing.)
As for bonus points I'm calculating them this way: since they are "bonus" they are not included in the grading equation -otherwise not meeting the /optional/ requirements would mean that you are getting less points to parse through a bigger denominator. In other words, they wouldn't be neither bonus nor optional at all. Rather, they are added after the equation and they are calculated like a full regular point (like, say, submitting critiques or getting 3rd position in a critiques phase; i.e.: {1/number of possible points}*100.) In the first round that meant that for 11-person teams a "bonus point" was actually 3 points and for 8-person teams, 4 points.
Also, don't get discouraged if you seem too be too far behind. A good card can easily make in excess of 70 points per round, which could be enough to allow you to pass as second (usually the top player of each team is someone who had 2 good round and is almost unreachable.) I myself am competing in the finals of last month after having a really dismal first round.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
It just seems to me that its really hard to judge who's going to place where based on the scores as of now, seeing as how much they can change in a single round.
Also, as a sidenote: I think those who still need to submit top 3's should be reminded once again, seeing as since the current round started, I dont think anyone has submitted a late top 3.

Unless I get a perfect score and Oculus gets no top 3's, I'm not going to catch up. And let's be honest, I'm not a good enough designer to do that, and Oculus has a clear history of scoring very well in top 3's.
But how is it determined if I get a point or not? What if A has me at 3rd place and says I got one bonus points, B gives me 1st and says I got no bonus, and C gives me 2nd and says I have 2/2 bonus points? Or has everyone always agreed on whether or not people met the requirements?

Karmic noose posted in the old thread and I got 3 PMs. now time of grace is over and people will be scored/dropped accordingly.

I go over each person who got into a top 3 and check whether the critics agreed on the amount of bonus points he or she should get then I go with what the majority said.

Maokun just updated the scores now. CodGod had 11.8 points before, close to last place. NOW, he has 84.5 points, and hes in first place on my team.
Way to go Cod. Thats how you make a comeback! Only on Team Agyrem, city of rebirthing spirits and souls!

Yeah, let that be a lesson to never give up. And Arcanix who was the clear leader now has to fight for the second place. Anything may happen... in the CCL!

Thanks! I felt that other than some minor flaws my card for the first round wasn't bad, but wasn't particularly good either, and didn't really stand out from the pack. I'm glad I managed to do better with my round two submission - clearly 0/0 tokens are a more popular idea than I thought
However, making my round 3 creature evolve from 0/0 is going to be interesting. I don't want to do the "you need a global pump effect to use it" thing again, so I'll have to come up with something new...
Hi Lordschuft, great to hear you are interested! The CCL is basically a monthly contest, so it starts up in the last few days of each month, and usually runs a week or two over into the next. Check back in the neighborhood of the 28th-30th and look for the CCL September Sign-Up thread.
Spoilers are made with a [*spoiler*] [*/spoiler*] tag, taking out the *. You can also find a button for them if you use "Post Reply" instead of Quick Reply, the sheet of paper button in the upper right.

...Does our creature have to use the same p/t as our token creature?? I mean Moakun did say we can change the p/t if need be, but did that just mean for the "evolution" part?
Im asking because instead of a 1/1, my creature is a 1/2, for a specific reason. (dealing with its first ETB choice. I dont want it being too powerful.)

I don't think they have to, but if possible I want to have it be the same, since that was pretty much the defining characteristic of my token producer.
Yes, I said that you could change p/t if you "must" meaning that for flavor's sake, I'd prefer if you didn't, but I neither want to add too many artificial restraints to an already difficult challenge.

I assume we can, but I wanted to ask before I do: We're allowed to explain in some detail our newly made mechanic outside of the rules text, am I correct?

Rudyard - Twilight Traveller: Nonsensical ability words that have no direct connection to what makes the creature change. No initial creature type, and where does the Bird Nomad come from?
How is lifelink "nonsensical" and how does it have "no direct connection to what makes the creature change?" The creature changes based on whether your life total is odd or even.
It also flies because my creature tokens had either flying or lifelink.
It does have an initial creature type. It's type is different depending, so I didn't put something conflicting in the type line.
The Bird Nomad comes from the future. It was a spirit before it gained "physical form" and manifested in the material world. That's just a flavor thing though.
Twilight TravelerBW
Creature R
Flying, lifelink Devolution - As long as your life total is even, Twilight Traveler is a 1/1 Spirit. Evolution - As long as your life total is odd, Twilight Traveler is a 3/3 Bird Nomad.
*/*
Lifelink and flying are evergreen keyworded abilities. I said the ability words you used were nonsensical. Ability words - like domain and chroma - have no direct rules text. "Devolution" and "evolution" are ability words, and make no sense being tied to whether your life total is odd or even. "Odd/Even" changes are chaos factors found on Red cards, not White/Black ones. You would have been better off modeling the card after Serra Ascendant, having it change after hitting a certain life total.
Your card has no Creature subtype on the Card Type line. There is no creature card, after errata, that does not have some subtype on that type line. If this was in your graveyard, you could not use Soulshift to put it into your hand. This means it is NOT a Spirit, and does not match your Sorcery.
Is that substantial enough?

May your games be chaotic and your decks be Rogue.
Oh, you meant the ability words. That was the only part (I had thought) that addressed the mechanical side of my card.
Which means all three parts of your review were focused on aspects of the card that have very, very little or no game-play importance at all. No, I don't find that to be substantial. More superficial.
I don't feel I need to wait for a precedent from WotC to make a judgement call such as leaving types off the typeline. Also, Nameless Race is that precedent, now that I think about it, anyway...
Furthermore, you are incorrect that Soulshift would not affect it. The power/toughness setting abilities are characteristic defining abilities and so work in all zones.
Of course, you can judge however you wish. That is your right. I try to judge others as I'd wish them to judge me, and always try to give judgement based primarily on the function of a card rather than the form. But form does certainly count for something.
...Im assuming the extended deadline has come and gone. Did everyone that was missing a top 3 get one in?
