A thread from said forums inspired me to make and post some new legendaries, for the purpose of being new generals.
If you can point out any potential brokenness or unbalance-ness between them, I'd appreciate it.
Ligeia, Lament of the World 3WU
Legendary Creature - Angel (M)
When ~ ETB, tap two permanents. Those permanents don’t untap during its controller’s untap step for as long as Ligeia is on the battlefield.
3/5
- Control without being douchey like GAAIV, not combo like Bruna, not lame like Gwafa. I'm not a WU player so I'm not sure on the power level.
- Seriously Wizards, can we get a WB general that doesn't deal with sacrifice? ----...
Knight-Captain Vilana 2WR
Legendary Creature - Human Knight (M)
Whenever a creature you control attacks, it gets +2/+1 until end of turn.
3/3
- 'Cause people are moanin' and *****in' about not having a good enough aggressive WR general...
Ashera, Spiritdancer 2WG
Legendary Creature - Human Druid (M) (are the enchantresses Druids?...)
Whenever you cast an enchantment card, you may draw a card.
2/2
- We have generals that work as Enchantress generals, but we don't have an actual enchantress general. Simple enough, might not be doing enough though.
Rikah of the Mists 2UB
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard UUB, :symtap:: Copy target spell. You may choose new targets for the copy. If the copied spell was cast by an opponent, that player loses 3 life.
2/2
- Inspired by Undermine. My idea here was to have a general like DramaTurtle's Riku, where it flavorfully feels like the general is the real life player, on the battlefield actually casting those spells.
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven :symbg::symbg::symbg:
Legendary Creature - Elf Druid (M)
:symtap:: Add BB, BG, or GG to your mana pool.
:symg:: Target land becomes a 1/1 creature until end of turn.
2/2
- 'Cause I don't like most of the GB generals, even though it's my favorite color combo. And is it too much to ask for a legal elf general that ramps?
Revenant Tiidkiir 1UBR
Legendary Creature - Zombie Wizard (M)
:symr:, Sacrifice a creature: ~ deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
:symu::symb:, Sacrifice a creature: Draw a card.
3/2
- My buddy wants a zombie general that deals with saccing and burning, so that's that lol.
I'm aware of the slight love affair with mana cost 4 here, thank you lol.
Angel of Despair is still pretty good. Legendary and -1/-1 isn't worth changing to exile, gaining lifelink, losing 2 mana from the cost, especially when legendary isn't much of a downside at all in edh.
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven :symbg::symbg::symbg:
Legendary Creature - Elf Druid (M)
:symtap:: Add BB, BG, or GG to your mana pool.
:symg:: Target land becomes a 1/1 creature until end of turn.

No love for Radha, Heir to Keld? There's nothing black about this one, either.
Vilana - People are complaining that none of them are actually good, lol. JK needs artifacts which opens you up to blowouts, AK puts himself at risk and gets too expensive too quickly, to say nothing for Gisela. She's powerful, but expensive is the main complaint. /shrug.
Rhaelyn - Radha's fine, I just like Black a bit more than Red. What would you suggest to make Rhaelyn :symgb:?

Oh no, your creatures might die, or you might do less damage! And god forbid that you play an expensive creature in edh. Methinks they need to suck it up and play one of these perfectly decent generals.
No, that just makes it even more AOD-y. That etb ability is where you have a problem.

No, not if it's going to continue to make mana without a steep cost.
I see. Will work on that.
/Shrug. Just throwin' it out there. I like the name, so I might redesign her.
Sorry, what? Making mana is totally green. Lose 1 life for each B produced?...That second ability is also green, what I meant to ask was "what could replace the animation ability so that she would feel :symbg:?"
There's a couple GB cards that deal with animating lands, and with producing mana. Namely Woodwraith Corrupter, Squandered Resources, Cadaverous Bloom, and Llanowar Dead. Granted, its a different sort of animation, and the first two mana cards do so at a cost; is that what you were getting at, the cost?
What about making the second ability someting like B, sacrifice a swamp: target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn?
I also think you should drop the GG and BB and making it only GB.

Why would it need to sac a swamp? Kuro, Pitlord has a similar-enough ability. Strikes me as a very weak way to do that effect.
What's your reasoning behind the mana switch? I'm hesitant to do that.

The sac a swamp is because at her own 3 mana cost, her -1/-1 would be too early to do it at a cheap cost (1life is cheap in EDH). With swampsac, she can't wipe the board. We could also use tap, but that makes it weak later in the game. If you need it stronger, it could be all creatures instead of target creature.
The mana switch is all about feeling. Its mainly the BB that strikes me as odd. There's no rational reasoning behind it
I know, I'm being a pain with her. But I want her to be awesome
I know they do produce both, but at a serious cost. Giving BB on a 3 mana card for just a tap seems quite wrong.
Discarding would indeed be a good second ability: it needs to be a black ability as her first one is a typical green one.

Ah, now I think I see where you all are coming from on the mana. (It's 3:30 in the morning for me...) So what about -> :symtap:: Add GG or GB to your mana pool. Shows that Rhaelyn is indeed a darker elf mage, but still primarily a green mage.

For powerlevel it is better that way.
What about GG or B?
K, so the three that were touched on were Sathien, Vilana, and Rhaelyn.
Archangel Sathein :1mana::symw::symw::symb::symb:
Legendary Creature - Angel (M)
Flying, lifelink
When Archangel Sathien deals combat damage to a player, you may search that player’s library for a card and exile it. Then that player shuffles his or her library.
4/4
- Not Angel of Despair-y anymore. Much more combat related than the other generals.
=====
Knight-Captain Vilana :2mana::symr::symw:
Legendary Creature - Human Knight (M)
Battlecry
Creatures you control have haste and vigilance.
3/4
- Just feels like a legendary Hero of Bladehold, really. I like it, I just dunno, ya know?
=====
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven :symbg::symbg::symbg:
Legendary Creature - Elf Druid (M)
:symtap:: Add :symb::symg: or :symg::symg: to your mana pool.
:symb::symb:: Target player discards a card at random. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.
2/2
- Revised the mana tap to feel more proper, changed second ability to make her feel more :symbg:.
A creature you cast for BBB shouldn't be making mana without a cost.
Adding a discard ability doesn't make her feel more (B/G). She's BG, as in gold. She's not the overlap between black and green, she's a combination of them.
"add BG or GG to your mana pool" looks terrible.
The discard ability is way too good. Sure, you're not going to stop them from playing their top decks, but they're not going to be doing much of anything ever either. Seriously. Almost every other creature with discard as an activated ability - has t or "sacrifice a creature" in the ability cost; Don't discard at random; cost 4 or more to cast if they don't tap; Don't have other abilities.
This is a gb mana producer:
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven BG
Legendary Creature - Elf Shaman T, Sacrifice a creature: Add B or G to your mana pool for each creature card in your graveyard.

Cost hopefully ensures that it's not too much mana too quickly, and the Coffers cost of activation hopefully ensures that too. By my understanding, 3 forests and you break even (by tapping 3 permanents), 4+ you start getting the bonus mana. And I assume this is plenty powerful enough without more abilities?
Is that better? (I assume the rest of the dudettes are ok then...)
And does anyone else kinda fudge it on the rarity sometimes? I don't know or care all that much whether or not these dudettes of mine are plain rare or if they're mythic.
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven :1mana::symg::symg::symg:

The reason people ***** and moan about RW is because "cast lots of creature spells and swing" is generally a bad strategy in EDH, period. Personally, I'd like to see more RW generals whose text boxes don't revolve entirely around dealing damage with creatures.
New Archangel is fine, though she feels mono-black.
Ligeia being a double Stone Rain isn't douchey? Even if you change it to a nonland clause, though, there's still the issue that you feel bad casting her unless your opponent has good stuff in play already, and the purpose of UW decks is generally to prevent such a situation from happening in the first place. Unlike Olivia or Sakashima, Ligeia doesn't even give you a benefit from said good stuff - she just may or may not prevent your opponent from getting a benefit. Artifacts and creatures still get their static abilities, and tapping doesn't stop planeswalkers not named Gideon Jura at all.

Grumble.
You're right, it may not be terribly interesting, but it's the one design of her people haven't completely flipped out on. Back to the drawing board again...
=============
Vilana, Royal Battlemage 2RW
Legendary Creature - Human Knight (M) (Wizard? no Knight? /shrug) RW: Vilana, Royal Battlemage deals 3 damage to target creature or player and you gain 3 life. Activate this ability only if exactly three spells have been cast this turn and only twice each turn.
3/4
- The flavor being that she stands there presiding over meetings, councils, etc, and if peeps get out of line, she zaps them back into line, showing off the power of the Empire etc.
=============
I was vaguely going off of Hide/Seek for the Archangel. White exiles stuff too...Black doesn't get lifelink as often as White does, though.
Ligeia doesn't destroy the lands, so it's not technically a double Stone Rain (sleep deprived nitpick). I could add the nonland clause. I'm not a WU player, so I have no idea what works for that combo. Back to the drawing board for her too...
Go figure that the 3 generals I care the least about are the ones that seem to be fine. Yay failure...and being your own worst critic.
Don't mind my *****ing, sleep deprivation and generally a pissy day.
Rhaelyn blah :2mana::symbg::symbg:
Legendary Creature - Elf Druid (M) 1BG, :symtap:: Creatures you control get +1/+1 and deathtouch until end of turn.
Whenever a creature you control dies, you may return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand.
2/2
- BG seeks to prove its strength, and deal with the graveyard the most.
Tear it apart, as usual...
Mono-G attempt something...
Rhaelyn blah 1GGG
Legendary Creature - Elf Druid (M)
When ~ ETB, search your library for a Forest card and put it onto the battlefield tapped.
:symtap:: Add :symg::symg: to your mana pool.
2/2
- Combines the ETB elves with the ones that tap for double mana.
Ripping her apart is apparently quite fun, you sick weirdos :p...
WU Angel...
Ligeia, Angel of Order :3mana::symw::symu:
Legendary Creature - Angel (M)
Each player may only cast up to three spells per turn.
3/5
Reworded Vilana, I kinda like this version the most.
Vilana, Royal Battlemage 2RW
Legendary Creature - Human Knight (M)
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, you may put a charge counter on ~.
Remove 3 charge counters from Vilana and pay RW: ~ deals 3 damage to target creature or player and you gain 3 life.
3/4
Should the ability still cost Lightning Helix mana? Probably, I'm just not sure.
Any thoughts on either Rhaelyn re-do in the above post?
I'll edit this post with comments on cards a bit later. One thing I will mention, please don't use white text... it's a horrible abomination onto my eyes! Seriously, it is hard to read white text on a light blue background...
You have some nice ideas here, I would play with newly worded Vilana - although she should be a Shaman too

Well, I have MTGS set up as a dark grey site with white text so nyeh lol.
A couple new ideas, reposting the current versions of all dudettes. I'm especially looking for balance amongst them, me and a friend are considering actually using (some of) them as EDH generals.
Ashera, Spiritdancer :2mana::symw::symg:

Legendary Creature - Vampire (M)
Flying

3/3
Based off the vampiric lore (somehow...) that non-fatal injuries heal quickly and such.
What, a :symw::symb: general that DOESN'T deal with sacrifice?! Go outside, check if the seas are running red with blood!
Archangel Sathien :1mana::symw::symw::symb::symb:
Legendary Creature - Angel (M)
Flying, lifelink?
When ~ deals combat damage to a player, you may search that player’s library for a card and exile it. Then that player shuffles his or her library. (exile a permanent they control instead?...)
4/4
Someone earlier said that Sathien didn't feel like one of the colors, which I vaguely argued against (Hide/Seek), and why I added the choice of maybe just exiling a perm they control.
Ashera should say "cast an enchantment spell." Odd that there isn't a dedicated "Enchantress" legendary creature yet.
Rikah should say "instant or sorcery spell." The technology for copying permanent spells isn't there yet (which is why Riku only makes copies of creatures after they enter the battlefield). Aside from that, it's a fine card. I like it more than Curse of Echoes.
Revenant, aside from the bizarro double i's, is fine.
Rhaelyn is fine, but seems like she'd work better as a card within the deck rather than as her own general. The main draw of you general is being able to have access to that card on demand, and you can do a lot better in monogreen than having that slot taken up by a 4cmc ramp spell (which green already has in abundance).
Ligeia is interesting. Against the majority of decks she will do little to nothing, but she does hose storm strategies and some infinite combos. A "play fair" sort of general.
Vilana, Royal Battlemage: Punisher deck? I suppose many people have already tried this kind of thing in RWx already, so a dedicated general wouldn't be half bad.
Jenyn: Boring and OP doesn't even begin to describe it. Especially in a thread with "EDH" in the title, legendary is not a sufficient drawback.
Vampire: You can do some cute tricks with sacrifice and such, but the high recursion cost forestalls any infinite mana shenanigans. His main draw is being a clock almost on par with Mirri the Cursed. Not my cup of tea, but not terrible either.
Scion Maldera: This is a fine common in a multiplayer-oriented set. It feels neither mythic nor legendary. Shave two mana off the cost, give her an additional ability, and maybe we're talking.
Archangel Sathien: In the card Hide // Seek, it's pretty clear that the white part is the lifegain and the black part is the extract. For reference, there's only one mono-white card that allows you to search an opponent's library for a card and exile it (Scour, part of a cycle) while there are 13 such mono-black cards.

Ashera: Updated.
Rikah: Updated.
Revenant: :D. Gotta love them weird names.
Rhaelyn: That's the problem I'm having. I want a ramp-y general for mono-green, but the only actual one is banned. Considering both of her abilities are mana-related abilities, I guess I could drop one for Kamahl's land animation ability. /shrug. It's apparently quite hard making a good/unique mono-green general. Lord it up? I dunno...:gonk:
Ligeia: Three spells could be changed to two, but I'd be worried about her becoming a pseudo Rule of Law etc at that point.
Vilana: Considering every other RW general is so very combat-oriented, I figured it'd be good to mix things up.
Jenyn: Hmm. My initial thought just now was to add "X, :symtap:: Gain control of target creature, where X is its mana cost. Jenyn doesn't untap as normal next turn etc". Might not be enough to balance her out, though.
Vampire: Yeah. I just read up on vampire lore a bit and just kinda threw the card out there.
Scion: Hmm. After a quick browsing of the clerics, added "Whenever a Cleric creature you control dies, each opponent loses life equal to its power, and you gain life equal to its toughness." Also dropped Scion to 3 mana.
Sathien: Yeah. How do you feel about changing that ability to just exiling a permanent they control? White has some of the best removal that exiles (Swords, Path), and Black has some too (Sever the Bloodline, Eradicate), but most of it does deal with creatures. Hrm. Is Sathien just reverting back to a pseudo Angel of Despair?

The sac a swamp is because at her own 3 mana cost, her -1/-1 would be too early to do it at a cheap cost (1life is cheap in EDH). With swampsac, she can't wipe the board. We could also use tap, but that makes it weak later in the game. If you need it stronger, it could be all creatures instead of target creature.
The mana switch is all about feeling. Its mainly the BB that strikes me as odd. There's no rational reasoning behind it
Once again, Squandered Resources and Cadaverous Bloom both produce both colors. Seems fine flavorwise to me.
I know, I'm being a pain with her. But I want her to be awesome
--- Meren of Clan Nel Toth --- Jhoira of the Ghitu --- Prime Speaker Zegana ---
--- Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief --- Ghoulcaller Gisa --- Akroma, Angel of Fury --- Titania, Protector of Argoth ---
I know they do produce both, but at a serious cost.
--- Meren of Clan Nel Toth --- Jhoira of the Ghitu --- Prime Speaker Zegana ---
--- Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief --- Ghoulcaller Gisa --- Akroma, Angel of Fury --- Titania, Protector of Argoth ---
For powerlevel it is better that way.
What about GG or B?
=======================
K, so the three that were touched on were Sathien, Vilana, and Rhaelyn.
Archangel Sathein :1mana::symw::symw::symb::symb:
=====
Knight-Captain Vilana :2mana::symr::symw:
Legendary Creature - Human Knight (M)
Battlecry
Creatures you control have haste and vigilance.
3/4
- Just feels like a legendary Hero of Bladehold, really. I like it, I just dunno, ya know?
=====
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven :symbg::symbg::symbg:
--- Meren of Clan Nel Toth --- Jhoira of the Ghitu --- Prime Speaker Zegana ---
--- Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief --- Ghoulcaller Gisa --- Akroma, Angel of Fury --- Titania, Protector of Argoth ---
This is a gb mana producer:
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven BG
Legendary Creature - Elf Shaman
T, Sacrifice a creature: Add B or G to your mana pool for each creature card in your graveyard.
2/2
Lyzolda, the Blood Witch | Maga, Traitor to Mortals | Mayael the Anima | Rafiq of the Many | Rhys the Redeemed
Sasaya, Oorochi Ascendant | Sygg, River Cutthroat | Thada Adel, Acquisitor | Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre
/sigh. Alright alright, she needs work. sheesh...
==========
Screw it, gah. Mono-G.
Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven :1mana::symg::symg::symg:
Legendary Creature - Elf Druid (M)
:2mana:, :symtap:: Add to your mana pool for each Forest you control.
2/2
Cost hopefully ensures that it's not too much mana too quickly, and the Coffers cost of activation hopefully ensures that too. By my understanding, 3 forests and you break even (by tapping 3 permanents), 4+ you start getting the bonus mana. And I assume this is plenty powerful enough without more abilities?
Is that better? (I assume the rest of the dudettes are ok then...)
And does anyone else kinda fudge it on the rarity sometimes? I don't know or care all that much whether or not these dudettes of mine are plain rare or if they're mythic.

How is this any more interesting than "The second coming of Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary"?

=============
Vilana, Royal Battlemage 2RW
Legendary Creature - Human Knight (M) (Wizard? no Knight? /shrug)
RW: Vilana, Royal Battlemage deals 3 damage to target creature or player and you gain 3 life. Activate this ability only if exactly three spells have been cast this turn and only twice each turn.
3/4
- The flavor being that she stands there presiding over meetings, councils, etc, and if peeps get out of line, she zaps them back into line, showing off the power of the Empire etc.
=============
--- Meren of Clan Nel Toth --- Jhoira of the Ghitu --- Prime Speaker Zegana ---
--- Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief --- Ghoulcaller Gisa --- Akroma, Angel of Fury --- Titania, Protector of Argoth ---
- BG seeks to prove its strength, and deal with the graveyard the most.
Tear it apart, as usual...
Mono-G attempt something...
- Combines the ETB elves with the ones that tap for double mana.
Ripping her apart is apparently quite fun, you sick weirdos :p...
WU Angel...
Legendary Creature - Angel (M)
Each player may only cast up to three spells per turn.

Should the ability still cost Lightning Helix mana? Probably, I'm just not sure.
Any thoughts on either Rhaelyn re-do in the above post?

You have some nice ideas here, I would play with newly worded Vilana - although she should be a Shaman too

Well, I have MTGS set up as a dark grey site with white text so nyeh lol.
Hmm, a Human Knight Shaman? Interesting XD.

A legendary Beguiler of Wills, sorta.
Based off the vampiric lore (somehow...) that non-fatal injuries heal quickly and such.
What, a :symw::symb: general that DOESN'T deal with sacrifice?! Go outside, check if the seas are running red with blood!
Someone earlier said that Sathien didn't feel like one of the colors, which I vaguely argued against (Hide/Seek), and why I added the choice of maybe just exiling a perm they control.
--- Meren of Clan Nel Toth --- Jhoira of the Ghitu --- Prime Speaker Zegana ---
--- Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief --- Ghoulcaller Gisa --- Akroma, Angel of Fury --- Titania, Protector of Argoth ---
Rikah should say "instant or sorcery spell." The technology for copying permanent spells isn't there yet (which is why Riku only makes copies of creatures after they enter the battlefield).

--- Meren of Clan Nel Toth --- Jhoira of the Ghitu --- Prime Speaker Zegana ---
--- Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief --- Ghoulcaller Gisa --- Akroma, Angel of Fury --- Titania, Protector of Argoth ---
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard (M)
X, :symtap:: Gain control of target creature with mana cost X for as long as you control Jenyn, Architect of Will. Jenyn doesn’t untap during your next untap step.
1/2
Legendary Creature - Elf Druid (M)
When Rhaelyn of Shadowhaven enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a Forest card and put it onto the battlefield.
G: Target land becomes a 1/1 creature until end of turn.
2/2
Legendary Creature - Angel (M)
Flying, lifelink
When Archangel Sathien deals combat damage to a player, you may return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
4/4
And what about potentially dropping Rikah's activation cost to UB?
