Hello everyone, here's my first alter! It's just an easy Charmander on a mountain for my littler brother. I think it came out okay, gotta get better brushes, lol.
Sorry about the cell phone pic, but as always that's all I had to take it. When I'm back at college I will be able to scan for better definition.
Also, @Galspanic I love those Gambles! The Matrix one made me laugh, nice job!
Alext is either photoshopping or is a god at colour matching. I assume it is not the former...so wow, ya...jealous.
@noirlamia: not bad at all. good first alter...that brings me way back.
In other news i'm 3/4 of the way through my first abismal failure. My first two cards were pretty good...but this one is a complete bomb. I decided to do a Jack Kirby style Puppet Master on a Puppeteer, with the text box being a little stage where he has marrionettes of the Fantastic Four dancing around.
But having read the primer up in the tutorial section I am going to take Bleedingteddy's best advice and not give up. I am going to finish this abomination of an alter and learn from my mistakes.
Things I've learned from this horrible alter:
1) priming with white should be super thin and applied in many layers.
2) my brush should contain as little paint as possible to avoid clumping.
3) water should also be used to get a smoother brush stroke.
4) erasing is time consuming, but ultimately worth it in the end.
It's very cool to see those gambles I had been approached about the same commission and turned it down as I wasnt sure I could do a decent job of it and was quite excited about seeing teh final results when I had been told you had taken it.
I send this edict for free to any country except Russia to first alter artist (somebody who post something that he or she maked in this topic) who PM me adress and name. Little New Year gift.
Hehe...I'm sorry that my comment is difficult to understand if your English is not so good. What I meant was that your colour matching is so good that it looks like a photoshop. It is a compliment. Your work is very professional.
Merry Christmas!
@XenoNinja - Hellsing is definitely one of my favorite mangas, thanks for the "HELL YEA!" lol
@kburts - yea that's what I have been using is acrylics, they are sorta hard to control with such a small surface as a card but you'll get the hang of it. I haven't used anything else to alter so I wouldn't have a favorite yet. Good luck!
and everyone else, i am going over to my granmama's place on christmas, and she has acrylic paints so i will take my 1st stab at acrylic alters!
Good luck! My advice is to just keep track of what you are using and take written notes. Don't get too frustrated and make sure you use soap and cool water on the brushes. I'm only telling you this because I have sold art supplies to Grandmas for 5 years and they all complain about their grandkids destroying their stuff. And usually it's Americana DecoArt garbage paint and the brushes that come in Prang Watercolor sets, but they will get sooooo pissed if you ruin it.
Short question: Anyone in for the X-mas PnP? I haven't started yet, but might do a card today... well, would be nice to know if someone else takes part, though.
Got bored and decided to do a small alt. It makes me lul but its nothing compared to the stuff most people post on here.
I actually lol'd.
My first alteration! It isn't much, and I screwed up quite a bit, but I like it.
Oh, and could someone please tell me the rules for tournament-legal alterations? I want to make a deck and alter the whole thing to a theme, like Star Wars, and use it in FNM.
Oh, and has anyone done a playset of Sakura-Tribe Elders, one for each Ninja Turtle? I really wanna do that if I get good.
EDIT: R2 needs a background. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

AFAIK, you need the Name and casting cost of the card to appear. (pretty much the same thing as a textless card).
