My most recent alters =) i havent been doing nearly as much painting this summer as i had hoped to, but i had fun with these! my scanner made the paint on these seem really thick, and it actually isnt. they are still quite playable =)
I've wanted to do Amaterasu as Sacred/Watchwolf for awhile - sketched some poses and didn't really know what to do with it. Decided to just wing it, and when I was about to wipe the card, answer literally stared back at me.
Sadly I managed to wreck the surface of the card on the textboxes and they look even more awkward IRL
I should do Issun on Painter's Servant as a pair for this next.
I don't think they look awkward at all. From where I sit, the bottom textbox looks like it has remnants of brushstrokes in it, which only adds to the theme. It might be worse on your end (if the picture doesn't capture everything), but I think it worked out in your favor.
Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm not sure if I'm gonna part with this one but I should have it and a few other alters at Gencon.
The Indy is awesome, Klug. I'm always amazed at how smooth your work always is. I can never seem to maintain that much control over paint, I'm a photshop junkie :/

@Klug: Goodness, the shadows on his sleeves are simply astounding.
I think Bristol has produced pretty spectacular results using color pencils with other media before. I'm not really sure how it's done, but I wouldn't completely give up on it.
CardKitty uses colored pencils if I recall, applied over acrylics for some of that softness in all their work. Not even remembering for sure whether or not that was true, or whether it still is though. Altering folklore lol.
Anywho, this just happens to be what became of the top card in the random sell pile that got in my way between commissions. Hope you guys like it.
Colored pencils are definitely do-able, but they do take some practice to get good results. I have done a lot of colored pencil artwork in the past, and with a mix of ink, you can have some nice results. A good set of colored pencils can make all the difference... its too bad a good set costs like $80.
Since it looks like Tempered Steel decks might get a crack at the standard environment now, I decided to pull these out of the pile of things to do.
Interesting side note: Anyone else think that the green circle was an eye and the beam was shooting out of its mouth? Guess I never really looked at it until last night.
I really dig the Azami! I have been trying to figure out a way to do a full art Azami for a while now and I like this. I do think that the perspective in the floor could use some work though. There is a vanishing point off the right side of the image that is well established in the original artwork and then your flooring creates another point in the center. If you can keep that single vanishing point on the right it seems to make the space more credible.
I just did a quick slap-together in Photoshop and even though it's still not right the long parallels of the wood floor boards now feel like they are more in line with the boards of the shelves.
Anyway, I still think it's really nice and if I get around to altering my Azami I think I'm going to steal some of what you have going on here!
If anyone here posts their alters on dA, I started a MTG Alters group!
This is my first time doing an actual landscape. I based it loosely off of a photo I took a while back. It was a sunset in the photo, but I feel like it looks like a sunrise here? I think if I had added some pink to it, it'd be more accurate.
I think this was the first time I didn't do any erasing, just applied a grey base coat. I think that's what I'll be doing from now on since it's not anywhere near as time consuming. I'm not too excited about this one, it seems pretty boring. :/
I guess this was more of an experimental alter.
@tomcat_mu
Nice alter! Chandra looks nice, although I feel like she's missing a bit of shading on her?
@Cephaloshock
Blends in pretty well! I feel like their should be something on the bottom or something, not sure why.
@Xen
Your avatar instantly made me thing of a Blood Elf.
The background to Puss in Boots looks a little messy, but nice either way.

All good points. Additionally, I feel like the bottom of her skirt/robe should have more volume. It seems like it should extend forward with a cylindrical profile, covering more of the brickwork (see perceptive of columns).
Few new things. And a shameless copy of Dobber's idea for Sad Robot, cause my boyfriend asked for one. Your is much better, Dob, btw. I'm jealous of your shading work.

Finally figured out a quick way to resize in Photobucket. No more giant images from me, yays!
Mitashade, I love your Sun Titan. The flowers and hills display the titan's height well, and I really like the idea of a robe-like bottom to his armor. It almost makes is seem that the Sun Titan is a Knight Templar or some such.
I will say that the use of red on the sash does seem a little out of place given the predominantly yellows/golds of the Titan and his armor. I'm not sure what I would suggest changing it to, though...Sorry.
I really do love it though. I've always adored Sun Titan's art and you've actually made me like it more.

What made me realize it wasnt the mouth is when I got a foil of it and stared at it for a couple of minutes quickly followed by a seriously "OMFG thats not his mouth" but otherwise I still see it as his face and not his hand lol.

Thanks! I totally agree with you on the red, actually. I painted that one last week, and I was having trouble colour matching the orange of his hair in the sun for it, cause my paints just couldn't get bright enough. I bought a few more paints last night though, so I may fix it.
Thanks for the critique, glad you like it.
Here's the Sun Titan update... and the colour does match much better. Time to re-seal it!
If you have more to say and you have the most recent post, edit it, don't double post.
Great job, Mitashade! The Yellow/Gold/...orange..? of the sash fits way better into the overall ambiance of the lighting in the art.
This would definitely be one of those cards I would gleefully play whilst condemning my foes in the face of its awesomeness, which is to say, it's really cool.

lol thats because it is a Blood Elf =) back when i played wow that was my main.
And yeah i agree with you about the background in Puss... i hate it when i look at it. i was trying to duplicate the background in the original art, but it didnt go over so well =/
Looks good, except that Yoda's forehead seems a bit swollen. Nasty light saber battle i guess.
