No. They used artifice to simulate spells. They themselves weren't casters, they had no connection to the land. That's why they built machines to harness mana so they could build more machines.
I dunno, but maybe that's the point. In a world filled with heroes beyond measure, maybe Venser is just our "normal guy, trying not to get killed".
Yeah, but he's our incredibly annoying 'normal guy trying not to get killed'. There's a lot that can be done with that sort of character without making the reader want to punch him. Venser failed at that, really really badly.

Not to mention that most of the mana utilized by the mana was colourless. Thran Turbine, Thran Lens and Worn Powerstone, amongst others. A lot of the Thran-aligned cards only need colourless mana to activate, anyway.

I disagree with you Ramenth... The one character I wanted to punch badly was Jhoira.
All she did discuss her relationship with Teferi.
Are you kidding? She only talked about Teferi because he was being a complete Urza. He was moving his supposed friends and comrades around like pawns. Eventually Jhoira just took over because Teferi was so unreliable and high-handed. I'd say she did a hell of a lot, unlike Mr. Don't-kill-me!
I think Venser is obviously being shaped into the next gen version of Ertai, Wizard Adept. He's starting out as this super annoying guy who just wants to survive, shows streaks of cowardice but eventually is led to good because of the influence of a stronger hero.
However, I think it's obvious that Venser is going to come into contact with someone like Tezzeret or Nicol Bolas and their superior mind warping skills will fill his head with illusions of grandeur and eventually turn him into their own personal planeswalking puppet.

Bolas used Venser to re-enter the world. He's already enconted Bolas.
That's what I mean, is that Venser will probably end up evil in the storyline.
I really doubt it to be honest. He's never shown any capacity to be evil and likely the reason he's even involved in Mirrodin is because he's looking for Karn.
I would agree with you, only for the reason that he's already got a legends card, and is getting a planeswalkers card for Scars. So they wouldn't reprint a THIRD card of him just because he had an alignment change. So he'll probably just get killed outright. lol.

They print new planeswalker cards all the time, Jace and Chandra both got new cards and neither changed color.
Turning someone evil is an eteremly cheap ploy that i hope creative has grown out of, it's a stupid way to make a character act out of character.
For what it's worth, Phyrexia is now "officially" confirmed to be in Scars of Mirrodin, since the preview card in the Tezzeret duel deck has the phyrexian watermark. And flavor text from the other preview card implies that the conflict will in fact be "United Mirrodin vs. Phyrexians." Thought that was worth saying.
Also, the proper term for an inhabitant of Mirrodin is apparently "Mirran." Rolls of the tongue pretty well, I like it.

They got new planeswalker cards, but they were pretty far apart from their original Lorwyn print to years later when they finally made Ablaze and MS. They wouldn't make a blue Venser and then make an evil Venser so soon after coming out.

Where is there proof that they are making an evil Venser? (Unless that's your point in which case there seems to be a misunderstanding).
Unfortunately... you can't say anything for sure. We don't know because planeswalkers are brand new. They might print the same planeswalker twice in a block if it makes sense.
Are they going to do "Evil Venser"... no, not likely that's kind of lame. But they could if that's part of the story.
I'm sorry I confused everyone. lol. What I was trying to convey is that I had a hunch that due to Vensers backstory it sounded eerily similar to the way Ertai first started out. The annoying blue legend that just kind of followed everyone around and really didn't do much of his own merits. Then Ertai got corrupted and became much more badass, so I just had a feeling they would go the same route with Venser. I wasn't trying to imply that they should make an evil version of Venser, it was just a random speculative thought that has distracted the thread. lol.
Either way it seems like the story will focus on Vensers search for Karn. How this particular KOTH person is supposed to fit in anywhere, I dunno. If he even will be a apart of the storyline significantly at all.
I'm liking Elspeth in here though. She's probably the one and only truly pure and good planeswalker that you could imagine, so it's only natural that she's at the forefront of dealing with Tezzeret and the Phyrexians.

He and Elsepth and Tezz might be a sidestory. Much like Chandra, Jace, and Vol were in Zendikar. They still got cards, but weren't really a part of the story.
Ahh, that's true. The Planewalkers do tend to "do their own thing" while it's actually key legends that shine through in the novels that get prints in the set they are featured in.
Is anybody else afraid that this is going to end up as "Where in the Multiverse is Karn", with a sort of Scooby-Gang of planeswalkers?
I am afraid of this, so, so much. Possibly even more scared of this than I ever was of the Mending.

Hey I agree. Any time someone starts to talk about walkers teaming up, I get shifty because I hate that concept for the story.
I thought TPF did it well. But then again, that was sort of half-romance-novel too. The Chandra/Gideon dynamic was pretty interesting in my opinion, compared to the relationship between, say, Jace and Liliana.
I'm sorry Barinellos, but was this sarcastic?.

Indeed Memnarch named Mirrodin after his former life and his new life...
His former life as the Mirari, and his new life as a Warden.
Mirrodin.
