I hate playing against slow players. There is a guy where when im paired up against him if i don't win 2-0 i know im going to time. At release events i fear playing him everytime because he will literally take 10 min a play, even if its just to lay a land. It is obnoxious.
I hate playing against 'that guy'. That guy is the one that hasn't won a single game at an FNM for 3 months and comes in with a 24 counterspell MUC just to troll the tourney. I've played against that guy, I beat him with lands. Other than that guy theres the other that guy, the one that THINKS he's a good player. He knows the rules, stack order blah, blah, blah and points out YOUR mistakes. He is the first to call you on a mistake, but if you do it to him, he meant to to that and you should defer to his knowledge. He's also the one that calls a judge ever other turn to try to win by judge call rather than playing. I hate that guy more than anything.

There's a really obnoxious, overweight, ******* of a loudmouth at my LGS. He's so obnoxiously loud, and he gets frustrated when he doesn't win right away - a buddy of mine was running Dredge with 3 Gnaw to the Bones, and the fat guy was playing Naya Pod, so my friend keeps flashing back GttB and the big guy starts SCREAMING at my friend, "ANOTHER ****ING GNAW TO THE BONE HUH? PLAY IT MAN. PLAY IT." and then my friend flashes back Spider Spawning and keeps trolling him. My friend eventually just concedes because the guy kept yelling at him and slamming the table.
Then, I made it to top 8, and the fat guy did too, and he swore to the WHOLE damn store that if he won the first round he'd wanna keep going (it's 2:30AM now) because he wants the prize credit that is "rightfully his," and of course, he wins, and he demands to know his matchup before calling the split. Turns out it would've been against me, but I'm running Mono-Black Infect, which is insanely good against Naya-Pod, and I tell him "look, I got work in the morning, and you and I both want to just go home and sleep" and it took the other 2 top 4 players to convince him to split too.
And as I was cashing in my store credit to get a leather Ultra-Pro Pro binder I had been aspiring to purchase, he comes up to me and says, "You're welcome, that's my money you're spending right there. I would've kicked your sorry ass."

tl;dr - I hate obnoxiously arrogant players.
In both of these cases, I believe it would be appropriate to call a judge. If a player is taking ten minutes to play a land, or if their etiquette is so bad that opponents have conceded simply because they don't want to interact with the player anymore, then some penalties need to be administered.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I don't like the people who make fun of your decks. I run RG Werewolves at my FNM because of my lack of money. Whenever I slam down a Furor of the Bitten, this one guy always makes a sarcastic comment like, "RESPECTTTTTT." Hey, I know it isn't great. If I had 5 more dollars, that would be a Birds of Paradise. But aside from that, my LGS is actually pretty good.

The sad thing is, the Judge was there watching because all the other rounds were finished, and my friend just kept trolling the guy with flashback cards. The Judge is very clicky with frequent FNM'ers, so I guess he just didnt do anything because he knew the guy so well. And the guy wasn't threatening to physically kick my ass, (he wouldn't have one that's for sure, MMA FOR LYFE) he was just being a jerk saying he would've beaten me out of the top 2.
I use MODO to test decks for FNM/other events. So I'll run a deck for a week or two, then move on to something else (I have Magic ADD). So far, in this standard, I've run:
But I have NEVER felt the hate that I've felt for the past 2-3 days, when I started playing monogreen infect. The deck is super explosive, and has potential to win by turn 3.
Some of the comments I've heard:
"Must be fun to play such a boring, noninteractive deck" - A guy playing Boros Humans.
"Did you buy your deck with foodstamps?" - A guy playing some miracle deck with all of the current "money" cards (Tamiyo, Bonfire, Entreat, etc).
I was playing in an M12 sealed last summer, had a very average R/B Bloodthirst deck, but it did have a lot of burn, including 2 Fireballs. In game three, I decided to attack him for lethal combat rather than burn him out (I believe I won g1 that way). As soon as the game ended, I extended the gg, and showed him a Fireball in my hand (he was at like 5 life when I attacked and won) as just a sense of "Hey, I had you either way, so don't feel bad" kind of thing, but the dude flipped out on me and asked why I wasted his time with a full turn from me.
Someone on here said it best once:
"You're dealing with a primarily anti-social demographic with MTG players."
Sadly, this is true.
I dunno, I can easily see the "still had all this" hand reveal as rubbing salt in the wound, so to speak. You might have meant "Don't worry, I have you either way.", but he might have seen "Man, you got outplayed so badly I didn't even need all the ways I had to kill you."
You have to be careful about stuff like this. While it's not classy for your opponent to have exploded, it's also not classy to do something that could be construed as baiting that response. Generally when I'm executing a bad beat and have the win solidly in hand, I just thank them for the match, offer the hand and wish them luck. There's far fewer ways to misinterpret that.
I consider myself very tolerant of all kinds of players. I try not to judge anybody and enjoy every match. Fortunately, where I play, we all know each other pretty well and get along, so I haven't really had any problems. Only one night did somebody try to rush me that I didn't appreciate too much considering I wasn't stalling and certainly playing within the rules and spirit of the game. I've seen slow play, and while I don't like it, I again try to be tolerant of it.
For me to guess what I wouldn't like playing against would be tough to do because my life with Magic has really been wonderful. Maybe that's why I love this game so much even though I'm not very good at it. For the most part, my opponents are a joy to play against, even when I get stomped. I'd say ONE bad experience in 18 years is amazing.
If I had to pick one thing, I'd probably not enjoy playing against somebody who spent the whole game bragging about how good he was and how horrible my deck was and how I should really learn to play this game. But I'd like to think that I'd never meet anybody that obnoxious.

Thanks man, a very good point. I tend to only play either EDH or pre-releases these days (don't have enough time, sadly, for drafts) so I take for granted the casual nature of my typical games.
Umm personally I threat all players well, but I just don't like to play against players who threat themselves as god, there is one time I was play against this 15 years old kid at draft, he is kinda new, everytime I makes a huge play he yells out loud and say that play is pretty gay.
Well I beat him, I want to help him to make a better deck and teach him what cards you should pick and what cards you shouldn't, he says "I don't need your help" "nononono those cards are amazing you are wrong" etc etc, those players are just so ignorant sigh.
people who have me dead on board but refuse to swing for like 15 mins while they theorycraft my 0 untapped land 1 tapped creature and 2 cards in hand
this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.
I can't stand that - it's like.. dude seriously there is no way im coming back from this.
I also get quite irk'd (is that a word?) from people who don't swing for no reason. Player Me has a Birds on table and 3 tapped land. Player B has a geist and flipped delver - and doesn't attack. really? you think my birds is a huge threat to you? then you're gonna complain when you lose? wtf man
I dont like playing against high tension players. The ones who pressure you to be done. Rapping their cards on the table during your turn. Breathing out a long heavy breath every few minutes. Challenging the mana spent for every spell. Asking each turn how many cards I'm holding - beyond the 'every couple turns' card count or actively needing to know (like gambling against a blue player, a discard deck or cards that refere to cards in hand).
Like they can pressure and harass you enough to make mistakes that would cause you to lose. I deal with it well, but I don't like to deal with it. I'm seasoned to it because pool players do the same thing. Just feels unwarrented in a magic card game.
If they lose the first round, the behavior escalates. Snide comments or shuffling your deck may be included.

I don't offer my hand in tournament; often times something in it they haven't seen yet for match 2. I usually do in casual magic, especially if I *could have* won if I had one more turn. Like your softening the loss - hee hee hee.....
The type of player that upsets me the most are players that take too long, often in order to salvage a tie instead of a loss. A good example is when I played 2 Jund players in a row at 4-0 in a Modern PTQ with my Caw Blade. Both players took an estimated 90% of the playing time and used just enough time to stay alive on turns. This was very upsetting because it cost me the top 8. Don't even try to convince me that Jund takes 9 times as long to play.
Sometimes I wish that they saw the great players that I used to watch. The best players in the game usually play pretty quickly.
I just really hate a tie because it 90% of the time is the same as a loss, costing someone top 8.
I see your irritation, and raise you a "any player that uses obnoxious meta tactics to change the outcome of the game". This is a card game with no culture of, nor reason for, disruptive and obnoxious play that is acceptable for changing the outcome of the game. You either have the skill, luck, and cards to win, or you don't. Don't toss in other garbage to make up for your lack of one of the other key aspects of the game.

LOL, the very idea of doing that seems wrong. Perhaps I have played too much Poker, but I am not going to hand out information about my deck, even in game 3. You never know who they know or who is watching.

Double checking the mana spent for every spell, keeping an active count of the cards in your opponents hand and shuffling your opponents deck are all things every player should do because it's good practice to watch for cheats. It also actively makes you better because you get a better idea of your opponent's hand and what they could have. I really don't see how that's the worst type of person to play against- YOU should probably be playing like that!

Alright im a bit confused with this statement...how is me asking how many cards in hand on relevant turns a deterrent, putting my hand(cards) down because looking at my cards any longer isn't gonna change them i know them and know what ill have to do in a given situation with them, breathing is tied to relaxation personally i don't do it but some it helps calm their mind so they can think clearly.
Granted i can understand a person asking how many cards in hand each turn with a deck that can't interact can be annoying. At the same time so can shuffling your hand all game.
So i guess my pick is people who can't stop shuffling their hand. I think that encloses basically everyone here probably lol i shuffle my hand too much sometimes while thinking but its still annoying to watch. Everyone does it that ive played so ive started kinda laughing at it because its funny sometimes. And i know about the idea of shuffling so your opponent cant know which card youve drawn, trace cards in your hand, see which one youve stared at etc too long to know thats the one to pick for random discard etc etc. Still it is humorous to watch every person shuffle their hand in a store almost simultaneously.
I agree with almost everything being said, but i will say occaisionally i get angry for losing even at FNM and onlly because of 2 different things:
Me: Have a regualr job, a wife, 2 kids, cant afford to drop 1000 dollars a month on the BEST cards but i do often place well as i know the game, and how to build a deck, and occaisionally make somthing that is really good cause i save to buy a couple clutch card
Douche #1: Builds fantasy decks that are that kinda quality people think about like "OMG turn 1 win if i get these lands this creatur 4 mutagenic growths and a tainted strike" lol these are the decks he plays and he will get his god hand obviously beat you cause therwe isnt much you can do against a random T1 T2 win deck that draws his god hand, but then rubs in ur face like he's god's gift to MtG THIS TICKS ME OFF AND MAKES ME WANT TO RAGE
Douche #2: is me, I play a lot of competative sports and really enjoy competition and throwing everything i have into it including magic, when i lose i'm fine with that, but when i lose because i put a deck together and still havnt figured out its in and outs and make a play mistake and its costs me the game i get sduper pisswed BUT its at myself i'm respectful and shake my opponents hand and leave it at that but its pretty obvious to everyone that i'm pissed Example: I had 1 glacial fortress 2 islands, a drowned catacombs and a ghost quarter and day of judgment in my hand with a few other things that wouldnt of helped, he had and outstanding creature presense on the bored, and i drew and didnt get my 2nd white source i passed th turn he alpha swang and that was game, but right when he declared attackers i snapped and said "OMG IM SUCH A F****** idiot, and just walked away" i came back shook his hand and apologised, and explained why i was so upset," to late i realised i could have sacked ghost quarter got rid of my drowned catacombs searched for my 2nd white source, cast day of judgment and been back on equal terms.
For the most part though I just really love playing good magic against good deck with good pilots, and having a nail biting game down to the wire of life totals hanging at 2', and 3's and both of us just waiting for an opening or a play that'll tip the scale.
But yes purposfully slow playing UGH
Bragging when you win with a terrible deck and you just drew your 0.01% chance god hand UGH take 15 minutes of the round to shuffle UGH

Fear not the night, fear those who walk the night.
And I am he that walks the night,
But only evil need to fear me
And gentle souls sleep safe in their beds
Because I own the night.
-The ones that feel the need to insult me and my deck to make themselves feel better. For example, when I played one guy in an FNM and won the first game, he spent the rest of the round complaining about how he hates FNMs because his competitive decks get stuck playing against "random jank and trash cards" and loudly going on about how easy my deck is to beat post-sideboarding. That's a bit of an extreme example, but anyone who feels the need to put down other players is just rude.
-The ones that try to "teach" me. If someone is nicely suggesting improvements for my deck, I appreciate that and will be glad to talk with them, but there are some people that seem to believe that if I lose to them in just one game (no matter the circumstances of that loss), I must not know how to build a proper deck and would benefit greatly from lots of condescending "wisdom." It's especially annoying when the opponent doesn't actually have any idea what they're talking about.
-The ones that make EDH games unfun for everyone. Okay, before a bunch of people yell at me for being a whiny casual player, hear me out. I am personally not a fan of really obvious infinite combos and extremely competitive EDH decks, but I understand that if I play outside my normal playgroup, I am going to encounter such decks and I am okay with that. If people have fun winning via combo or something, I have no right to claim that my source of fun is better than theirs. What I have a problem with is when there's little or no prize support and someone combos out on turn five, after complaining about how much they hate EDH and don't like playing the format at all. That's just ruining the game for the sake of ruining the game.
I can not stand people who are total douche bags. They think they are the best a magic and when loose make an excuse like " I didn't draw the right cards" or " You got lucky." In all honesty take your loss a bit more dignified.
On a side note, it is not a person I don't like playing against. But I can not stand very vulgar people, especially when at a tournament at my LGS. Number 1 - it is still a LGS and when all customers can hear is swearing and sexual comments, the business will loose money. Number 2 - it is a card game and attracts kids. This is nothing they should be listening to, and I find it very disrespectful.
Recently had a real gem step into our FLGS yesterday. He kept asking around for people playing 1v1 competitive edh, and proclaiming his general was Geist of Saint Traft. In addition, he kept asking to play for $50, which is obviously a huge no-no in game stores. Then when my friend started winning, the guy would not shut up about how the game was over, and why my friend wouldn't just kill him already. My friend went to tutor, and the guy actually asked why my friend didn't tutor out Mind Twist, because he's never seen anyone lose after having a twist resolved on them. Just generally being belligerent about the whole thing. Because obviously when you're whining about your opponent not killing you, he should waste his tutor to get something that prolongs the game... Needless to say, my friend tutored for combo piece #last, and finished the job, but my god was this guy annoying. Oh yeah, and he kept saying he was using a bad deck because it had 25 auras in it.
Basically, I just cannot stand the kind of jerk who can't decide what kind of jerk he's going to be, going so far as to constantly contradict himself.

Indeed. If it's a legit tourney, that's one thing, but doing it at FNM? Seems like you're being a bit too concerned.
EDH: Captain Sisay Tokens
Standard: White Weenie :symw:, UW Control:symwu:
Basically, I just cannot stand the kind of jerk who can't decide what kind of jerk he's going to be, going so far as to constantly contradict himself.
