Congratulations! That is one excellent piece of furniture.

I wish I had one of those to store my Magic cards in. Then I would not only have a place to store all of them, but I would finally have a coffee table as well.
That is way too cool, VestDan!!! I would be nerding out if I were you as well! So of course something this awesome makes me curious about a few things...
1) How much did it cost to make? I'm sure it was more than worth it, but it doesn't look cheap!
2) What is the general reaction people have to it? Most Magic players would probably find it pretty neat but when you have non-magic playing people over, do they ever comment on the furniture?
3) When can you sign a deal with Wizards to mass produce these gems?!

1) Just in parts, I'm not sure. The wood was fairly expensive as we got something nice that would work and take stain well. I'm pretty confident saying it's between $250 and 400, but that doesn't include all the labor.
2) It looks classy enough it's not obvious at first it's magic related. Magic players tend to love it though.
3) And make it less unique! Nebbar! My cabinet is a Legendary Artifact.
I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.
Very nice, Urza would be proud. I've always wanted to build a cabinet/table in the same way to house my console collection... However 32 drawers with room to insert and remove cartridges + store cartridges might be a little expensive and time consuming.
Gratz on getting your article featured! I've enjoyed a few of yours quietly to myself (Creepy indeed!)

Urza would be proud of the craftsmanship, but dissapointed I didn't need to kill countless millions to get it made. Oh, that Urza...
He would also be mad at you that you took that much effort, yet the table does NOTHING at ALL in the way of killing Phyrexians. Shame on you for not including any sort of complex torture and/or murder device.

I'm a little confused regarding the color wheel on top. Do you normally have stones in there and don't in the pictures? I just see five black spots. I did see that you use the holes to push up the glass, though.
I don't have any stones for the color wheel on the top, I just continued the motif. I considered painting the inside of the holes, but that would have looked busy; some people suggested putting LEDs inside the holes corresponding to the colors, but that would look to kitschy I think.
Fantastic work! When I saw the name I knew I recognized it, but I couldn't recall from where. Very, very cool. It'd be awesome to have something like that around!

Yeah, I think I have to agree with that decision. Good job.

I don't see exactly how it's constructed but I think glue-in small sections of colored-board/plastic (more consistently pigmented) would look better than either painted or LED's.
OR you could probably also pop into a local (but larger) arts/crafts stores and find some faux jewels that are flat on the back...just glue them in recessed from underneath w/a little bit of clear-drying epoxy or something. (I say little b/c the epoxy will react w/the plastic and produce cloudy parts if you try to remove a LOT of excess). If they're transluscent you could mount a little white led/batter pack behind them and it would still glow-but-without-the-kitcsh. That would be pretty sweet!

Congrats, yo. That's a fine piece of furniture. The colored spheres are simply. . . AMAZING!

I really wish I had one of those! Good Job on it though .
We clearly need to get more MTGS users onto Wizards, or at least get them to recognize us
I swear that I'll come by your place once to play on it. >_>
