I was just playing on MWS, so the chat log goes something like this:
I play game of chaos.
I declare heads.
FLIP: Heads
I declare heads.
FLIP: Tails
I'll ignore the tails. I win the flip so I flip again.
+1 life to me, -1 life opponent.
Heads.
FLIP: Tails
Heads.
FLIP: Heads
I'll ignore the tails, I win, flip again.
+2 life, -2 life opponent right?
At this point, he starts arguing with me that I got two tails in a row, and I lose 2 life, he gains 2 life. That shouldn't matter because I choose which flip I am ignoring and which one I will count for GoC... Correct?
Additionally, he argued that if I lose ANY flips for Fiery Gambit, the spell has no effect. Isn't this wrong because the modes stack, and I had won 2 flips, then lost the last one (same as above, but both flips were tails when i declared heads), making only the first two effects happen?
Also, I tried searching but was getting a database error...?
First, I want to point a mistake that I think you're making. When you flip a coin with Krark's Thumb, you don't do this: "Declare Heads. Flip. Declare Heads. Flip." You do this: "Declare Heads. Flip. Flip."
But anyway, for your first question, you are right. You flip twice, and one of them was Heads, so you win. Then, you flip twice, and one of them was Heads, so you win.
For your second question, you are wrong. First of all, there are no "modes" as defined by Magic, just effects. Fiery Gambit explicitly says: "If you lose a flip, Fiery Gambit has no effect." Nothing stacks. Either you win 2 flips, choose to stop, and get the first two effects, or you win 2 flips, lose the third, and get none.

You're right. As far as the game is concerned, the coin flip you're ignoring never happened.

You're wrong. This sentence is very straightforward: "If you lose a flip, Fiery Gambit has no effect." You lost a flip, so Fiery Gambit has no effect.

Why do you say that?
705.1. To flip a coin for an object that cares whether a player wins or loses the flip, the affected player flips the coin and calls "heads" or "tails." If the call matches the result, that player wins the flip. Otherwise, the player loses the flip. Only the player who flips the coin wins or loses the flip; no other players are involved.
Krark's Thumb says to do this twice, not just a part of it twice and part of it once.
Hm... because I thought calling heads or tails was part of the spell's effect. I didn't know it was directly associated with the action "flip a coin". Oops!

Alright, looks like this is solved then. Thanks!
