The Extreme Value packs are back at Target. These were around last year with the promo Retaliator Griffin and some assortments of cards, ranging from basic lands to Jace decks from Jace vs Chandra. They retailed at about $8.
Last year you could peek at the cards by contorting the blister packs. They've made it a little harder this year by putting in an extra piece of styrofoam in the pack. I was able to see an M11 pack and an Unhinged pack, with some cards in between that were tough to see. I saw one of them that had cards in blue sleeves, so I gave it a shot to see just how extreme this value was.
My random cards were some very bad uncommons and commons from Coldsnap to Conflux (maybe 6 or 7), as well as a few basic lands (that were in sleeves for some reason). Some of the cards were pretty beat up, also.
But at least I pulled a foil Forest from my Unhinged pack. Made the whole thing worthwhile.
Has anyone else had any experience with this year's Extreme Value packs?
I bought 4 of them, 2 were RoE with Zenikar and other 2 were m11 with Worldwake. Almost all junk bonus cards except 1 pack had 4 foil Retailator Giffin and the foils from the Sliver Premium set!
Does your local Target allow you to return opened boosters? If so, how many Jace the Mindsculptors do you own?
I've bought a few of these things in the past, they aren't worth it, normally. The only exception to this was once a few years back (just after Mirrodin was released) there was one at Wal-Mart that had 4 packs, two of which were Mercadian Masques and Invasion in Japanese.
Unless there's a promo card in the FRONT where you can see it (which they sometimes do) you are basically getting the two random packs. Which is sometimes fun, and they don't cost any more. Claims of "8 bonus cards" usually turn out to be lands.
I'd love some more details on these packs: We recently purchased 100 of the mini-boosters at Walmart with the specific goal of getting percentages on value (spoiler: skip them).
I can't locate them on Targets' site (or really any other M:tG product outside of the novels). Does anyone have specific information, product images, availability, or details on these Wizards' supplied foil promo cards?
I opened one last year, got two crap worldwake packs and 8x scathe zombies, which I promptly hid around my sister's apartment for her roommates to find. But, yeah, it was a piece of crap.

You, sir, have just won the internet. Congratulations.
I bought 4 one day (I work at Target and get a 10% discount on all merchandise). Each pack had one Zendikar and Worldwake. In the first, I got eight foil Retaliator Griffin. In the second, I got four foil 7th edition Thorn Elemental and four foil 8th edition Elvish Champion. The other two came with various bad cards from Ravnica and Dissension. I sold the four Elvish Champions for 18 dollars and made almost 75% of my money back.

In an eight player game, is anything good? Don't you just sit there countering combos until someone genesis waves for 42 after all the blue players tap out fighting over a bribery?
The best way to teach them how to play is to give them a How to Play guide, a full set of the rules, and a knife. Then you should send them out into the wilderness and wish them good luck. That's how my parents taught me how to play.
All the ones I saw tonight had M11 and Unhinged. The cards in the middle seemed to vary a bit (was hoping for a promo of some sort). I did peek in another pack and see a Worldly Council... not exactly inspiring. The fact that cards were in sleeves made me think that they might have been better than crap. I was mistaken.
Good to hear that some past promos are showing up in these, though. Not that it's any reason to buy one of these. The aforementioned feces and giggles are probably the best reason.
Yeah, seems like the better deal here is the 5.99 packs Wal-mart sells (1 pack + 30 random cards.) The last three of those I bought ended up all having half of different planechase decks, usually including all the rares.
I'll blame my friend Matt on that. Earlier this year, I did a big order for a wholesale store, they wanted 2 million commons (which then became 3 million) in a month where he would send them to Wal-mart. (I had a few sales posts about requesting commons around that time too)
30000 of which involved cards from the store I help out with. One of our regulars will occasionally write out proxies and then forgot bout them and then put them back in the boxes later when we clean up at night.

Well, I explained to the person that the pack didn't include the proper cards, and she sorta took my word for it. I only did it once, but I suppose I could've tried to exploit the system.

So is there a new foil promo card in the series? I'm expecting an "A5 2010" collector number, based on the past promo cards in these silly "value" packs:
A1 2007 - Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
A2 2008 - Brion Stoutarm
A3 2009 - Broodmate Dragon
A4 2009 - Retaliator Griffin
I got a playset of Clones I'm not sure which edition exactly but it is either Unlimited or Revised. and it was like a Worldwake and a Dissension pack I think. It wasn't too terrible but not really worth it in the end, unless those are the Unlimited edition Clones in which I made my money back and more.

I bought two, m11 with Unhinged, and got 16 Circle of Protection: Greens.
Pretty bizarre.
