These bros are really solid. And hey - people who like men can get into the art! Magic is full of burly and somewhat naked guys but doesn't have much male-focused fan service. I has no problem with the choice of art. My girlfriend's first comment was "gay" but whatever; to each his/her own.
And I'm loving the presence of a lord at uncommon, limited is looking to be pretty interesting.

A lie is a lie if everyone believes it. The truth is the truth if no one does.
Nothing about this card makes sense to me flavor-wise.
From some of the flavor letters, I've inferred there is a blood trade amongst the vampire groups. Think of it like the old drug trades that made merchants super rich. This guy is the nearly uncontrollable heir to one of those blood traders, sharing his wealth.

You really can't get away.
I've tried.
Well, it's kind of a weird choice for gay/girl friendly fanservice seeing as it mostly appeals to people who like gothy twinks with an extra helping of S&M with a blood fetish kicker. Lot more narrow than boobs, ass, and DOSE CHUN LI THIGHS, dontcha think?
player for 15 years here, and though i'm a straight male myself, i've known several girl and gay players. takes all kinds folks. probably not as "narrow" an appeal as you uptight boys might like to think.

Uh, trust me, it is a pretty narrow fetish combo. More so than pegging, for realz.
Also does anyone else find it ironic/in poor taste to have a majority of those infected with a blood-borne virus look straight out a Black Party?

"A girl with a sword? What's so appealing about that? It just applies to D&D nerds who've never experienced the touch of a woman and live action rollplay junkies, featuring a battle girl and weapon fetish kicker. A lot more narrow than drawings of attractive well built men staring lustily at the viewer dontcha think?"
If that ruffles your jammies that much, I can't wait to see how you'd react to a gay planeswalker.
and if you or anyone else is playing for the fanservice or finds it a big enough deal to complaign when a featured women isn't sexy, or about a card that features guy with his shirt off, you're better off doing something else with your time.

So, it's pseudo-vampire lord. Not sure about it. We saw so many red vampires recently, that I want to see a black one. But this.. is just another red vampire.
Edit: And I want to notice that the name is strange. Rakish heir. Reminds me of Rakka-Mar. I know it's coincidence, but still..
"Rakish" here means "in the manner of a rake."
Not the farming tool, obviously, but "rake" as in the old-fashiony term for a sauve, dashing but careless man, who, shall we say, "gets around."

Jesus Christ you people don't have much in the way of reading comprehension. All I'm saying is that: A.) it's bad art B.) it's a narrow band of fanservice. Seriously, if you aim something for the gays and girls, they might as well, you know, do a good job and make something with wide appeal, not...this.
The red curse is a two drop actually and does the same thing in a one-on-one setting. This guy is better for multiple people, but still. Turn 1 Noble, Turn 2 Curse, Turn 3 this guy...

Rakish Heir gets to attack and grow bigger. The red curse doesn't. I'd say that's a rather significant difference. This is one of those cases where putting the effect on a creature isn't necessarily a drawback.
Of course, we could just play both as you suggested.

Except the art IS pretty darn good if you look at the high res of it in the art thread further down in the 'mill.
And sure, ladies and gay fellows are a niche market and make up a very small percentage of the MTG community, but there's no reason they can't be catered to every now and then with a little art. And as far as invoking sub fetishes to justify your point of further narrowing it down, you just don't get it, but that's ok because I wouldn't expect you to.
It's great art on a good card that frames VERY well what gothic horror style vampires are all about.

I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Art hits on what gothic horror vampires do - seduce - so it's alright. If you ask me, its realism is unsettling to complainers. Or our male-complainers wish they had pecs to show off too.
Ability hits on what any vampire should do flavor-wise - draw blood and get stronger. How he empowers other vampires to get additional counters is what's getting me. "Having fun" doesn't quite explain it for me. Thoughts if any?

Anyway, if the art's intended for another audience, I can deal with that. They can stick with what they like, and I'll stick with what I like.

Yup. If he was a 2 drop he'd be pretty awesome.

Read before raging, yo.
Anyway, I'm guessing that 'Rakish' is supposed to be one of the four main vampire families, in addition to 'Markov'?

ok lord. will be good in limited.
No, "rakish" is a real word. It basically means "dashing" or "dapper" and is a pretty funny title imo.
Uh, that sentence while looking at that art... Well. Hahah
