I realize Serra "supposedly" died, but the vast amounts of Serra cards in the M13 set (Serra Angel, Serra Avatar, Serra Avenger) has me wondering if we will see Serra as a planeswalker in the coming sets. There is a vast void of female planeswalkers in Magic and resurrecting her would be welcomed by a large amount of fans. Just speculating.
Speculation, not rumor. Prepare to have this moved.
On topic, there are a few other options we are more likely to get like a Nissa revisit or that Merfolk G/U chick from Duels 2012.

"Bound by hell-forged chains and fate-haunted circumstance. Well, then--let it be thus so--and men will have cause to tremble and flee when they hear the names of Elric of Melinbone and Stormbringer, his sword. We are two of a kind--produced by an age which has deserted us. Let us give this age cause to hate us!”
Keep in mind Serra's death was highly dubious and, if I recall correctly, only relayed to us second-hand.
I don't consider it written in stone that she's dead. Also, she "died" back pre-mending when Planeswalkers were pretty much immortal, which means it is highly likely she continued on.
Stranger stuff have happened in the multi-verse than Serra being restored. I'd love her back, just because she is such a cool part of Magic's history.
Idk, it seems rather arbitrary to bring Serra back. They could bring Yawgmoth back in the same breath why not.
However, someone pointed out that Serra is both a god and a planeswalker who took the same name. It's possible she's re-incarnated, or an new entity that takes on her memories. This would be untapped character design space, but so far, most of the walkers are pretty simple and straightforward in their profile, with the exception of Karn and Bolas, who exist for other reasons (fan favorite and big baddie).
If they do create a planeswalker named Serra, they better have a good explanation.
No Non-rare legends just before Kamigawa
No common artifacts just before Mirrodin
No legends in core set just before 8th
And a lot of other things. He says things months before he proves otherwise. I'm amazed people haven't caught on.
There's a difference between design breaking its own rules and creative trying to build a mythos. If you take a look at how much retcon Magic had to do with Ice Age/Homelands/etc in the beginning, you'd understand why they're sticking to their guns about something like this.
Five out of seventeen means that female walkers are under-represented. On the other hand, out of the remaining twelve, only eleven are male. (Karn, being a golem, is technically genderless).
That said, Serra dispersed her essence due to her sorrow after her husband died. She will not be returning.

Yawgmoth won't be returning, because the only person crazy enough to bring him back (in story), wouldn't be coherent enough to do it. >.<
Just following the bread crumbs, but I wanted to propose this idea because I'm not a big vorthos. It seems we have a little disagreement, but interesting conversation nonetheless. It is why I do like the forums. It is always an education especially when it comes to the storyline.
As for Serra - I don't see why not. They went to a younger Ajani (Alara) and now back to older, so I'm sure they could just have Serra before death.
As someone else pointed out, she died hundreds of years ago. The Lorwyn 5, in that form, haven't actually appeared in the story. The Lorwyn 5 are non-canon timeline wise.

We've only ever had one instance of re-incarnation pop up in magic, and that was with a closed soul system on Mirrodin. The soul traps forced reincarnation.
Aside from that, I don't see it happening. And all the rest is ridiculously contrived to make it happen, which ultimately means it wouldn't be worth the hassle and explanation.
Also, it was the first expansion to Ice Age, being released between Ice Age and Alliances. And that was pretty much the sets only problem, it was a low power set released between two high power ones. It was also more flavor driven than any of the sets close to it.
Also, multiple cards for the same character doesn't count. And if it did, Females would still be underrepresented.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

Seriously, they are not going to drag her back into any spotlight. Dead is dead and she was killed pre-rev.
Please note that I am less than a noob when it comes to canon so I'm can't go into the dead/not dead discussion.
I'm just thinking of a Serra flavour deck here.
If you get technical, there were two Serras to start with.
The planeswalker and the goddess she was named after.
O_o
I was thinking the same thing.

RRR Khorenthos - The Red Block (Feedback needed!) RRR
Problem is Serra was a pre-Mending walker.
The only chance we get a Serra planeswalker card would be a new walker who adopts the same name.
Pauper: UR some horrible homebrew izzet deck

Homelands is widely agreed not to have happened anyway, so Creative can do whatever they want

Sorry, but Homelands is Canon. It is connected to the main storyline via Invasion where Urza goes there to recruit Daria and Taysir.

Homelands was the second expansion to Ice Age. It was so bad, Wizards printed Coldsnap a decade later to apologize
Female Planeswalkers are awesome, I just wouldn't say there is a vast void of them

... where in the name of glob did you get that idea from?
Homelands happened.
For a bad set, it sure printed a lot of good cards. (Autumn Willow, Memory Lapse, Merchant Scroll, Serrated Arrows, Æther Storm, An-Zerrin Ruins, Ihsan's Shade, Sengir Autocrat, Eron the Relentless.... )
