If AVR is any indication, WotC is trying to steer Blue control away from counterspells,
and towards tapout control.
This got me thinking- could they be planning to reprint the ultimate Blue griefer card: Stasis?
It's something I never thought they'd do because I know firsthand how much "fun" Stasis is,
but they're already veering towards enabling one-sided lockdowns as-is;
My reason for believing they wouldn't reprint Stasis is no longer valid.
Does anyone else think we might see this come back to Standard?
I kinda hope it does- it would remind all the counterspell whiners how annoying Blue can be when it really wants to be annoying.

Stasis is infamously obnoxious. EDIT: Why the heck did I say it uses Cumulative Upkeep?
I'm guessing No, with a capital N. We might see more Blue tapout, but global permanent effects (Like Winter Orb) are extremely unlikely. Besides, why would you want a card like Stasis to be reprinted, other than petty vindication?
There's already plenty of threads to whine about counterspell whiners. We didn't need another.

It's about the direction they are pushing Blue control,
and Stasis fits that paradigm, like it or not.

There is no way they will go back to something like Stasis. I'm betting a lot on more bounce top deck control such as Time Ebb. That is the future of standard if they feel "counters" are too controling. I would prefer bounce anyway. That pisses people off more.
Do you also know the next super bowl winner and the next megabucks winning numbers? I mean with such a powerful gift for foresight you must, right?
It's highly unlikely Stasis will ever be reprinted in a Standard legal form. WotC has said again and again that they don't like cards that keep players from actually playing a game. Land destruction has been severely scaled back in the past few years for this exact reason. Stasis is even more annoying than land destruction. I can't see any way that WotC would deliberately reprint a card that would actively stop people from playing Standard.
Exactly.
These people must have *extremely* short memories,
or conveniently never acknowledged they reprinted Lightning Bolt,
which was another "when hell freezes over" reprint, if I recall
Not even in the same league as Stasis. Stasis is unfun. No, I don't mean Counterspell unfun. I mean 'you can't play anything ever' unfun. If WotC hates LD and Counterspell decks because players think they're unfun, the chances they reprint the most sloggish, obnoxious card ever printed is nil.
There is a greater chance of seeing Mel Gibson becoming a citizen of Israel than there is of Stasis being reprinted.
Exactly.
These people must have *extremely* short memories,
or conveniently never acknowledged they reprinted Lightning Bolt,

Wait, did you seriously just try to lump in Lightning Bolt with Stasis? Am I reading this correctly? Because if you honestly believe a reprint of Stasis would be on the same level as when they reprinted Lightning Bolt you're insane. Not to mention the fact that they addressed that Lightning Bolt was being reprinted because of power creep on creatures.
Stasis is one of the most oppressive, hated cards of all time. There is no way in hell it will ever see reprint in a standard-legal set. 0% chance.
Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
There is a -500% chance of Stasis being reprinted.
Considering how Wizards has gone out of there way to nerf things like LD, discard, and counters, I can't see them bringing back the least fun archetype ever to play with or against
You're deranged. Stasis is a broken card and rampantly unfun.
Rampantly unfun? Sure.
Broken? HARDLY. You realize it keeps *you* from untapping as well, right?
And Standard currently has no methods for repeatedly bouncing the card like Vedalken Mastermind, so there's no way around that drawback.
How many times have you played with a Stasis deck?
If it were such a "broken" card, those decks would be a *lot* more common in Vintage and Legacy.
As-is, they're practically nonexistent.
Reprinting it here *might* make it a decent deck in Modern,
but even that is highly debatable.

Because oh you know, those decks won't suffer from set rotation about 3 months after M13 comes out, and then we'll just have to live with Stasis in Standard for 1.8 years instead....
Stasis itself? Not getting reprinted. At all. A card with similar abilities with an increased cost? Possible though I wouldn't hold my breath. Wizards wants this game to become about as proactive as possible rather than reactive. Stasis-like cards don't fit that angle.

I played Kismet + Stasis for a long time when it was in type 2. That deck was horribly degenerate and only didn't dominate the format because of how high the power level was back then. Stasis is a very broken card, and the drawback can be managed with even a slight amount of solid deckbuilding
Comparing Bolt to stasis is like comparing apples to oranges. Stasis is way too powerful and the only way to ever see a stasis like reprint is on a creature or an artifact with some form of charge counters.
Stasis is miserable and you should feel miserable for liking it.
That said, we probably WILL see something like it if only because, as you say, that's how the game's going in terms of control (and I like that. Not because I like control, I hate it and hate all of you for liking it, but because tapout control at least leaves me with SOME options) and given how wonky they've been they'll make something big and nasty that just happens to be similar. Maybe a little more expensive and with a cumulative upkeep, and I'd be okay with that. However, they won't be reprinting Stasis. And if they do I will personally request my very own copy of Channel from the next set, or else set or else Wizard will feel the wrath of a very VERY angry firemage.
Sun Titan + Stasis is a lock, I didn't even have to look it up
You might want to look up a means of reliably getting Stasis into your graveyard every turn, at least.
You can sacrifice it to the upkeep, but you won't untap that round to cast it again.
It's far from a "lock".
And I'm not sure any combo with Sun Titan is particularly worrisome-
by that stage in the game, someone *should* be capable of a powerful combo-
one more powerful than Stasis + Sun Titan.
also, there's that whole "Sun Titan won't be in M13" thing, so I could have just led with that

If Stasis ever gets a Standard viable reprint I'm quitting magic. Just putting this out there. I don't care if it's a new form that costs 1UUU, your hand, and half your life. The whole concept behind the card is game ruining, unfun, and needs to stay in Magic's history (and the odd edh game blech) and not in it's present or future.

You've got a rat in your walls, and cheese won't solve anything.
Stasis could easily be reprinted as a 5-mana aura with "enchant tapped creature." Stasis could never be reprinted because it costs about 5 mana less than a one card combo of your opponent never interacting again should.
