Not sure if this belongs in Baseless or not,
but with a picture "reminding" us of Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind on the announcement for RTR,
it's highly likely we'll see him again in some form.
Given their propensity for flaunting Planeswalkers on these images,
it's looking less and less implausible for ol' Niv-Mizzle to show up with an ignited spark.
Of course, this can only be speculated on for the moment,
but from reading the official RTR reveal thread,
it's obvious I'm not the only one who would like to see him as our first (U/R) 'Walker.
Given that Wizards tends to be aware of such things,
it seems more likely than ever that we'll see a Niv-Miz PW.
So, what would you want to see in such a card?
I would personally expect him to be another high-CC PW like that other Dragon,
hopefully with similarly impressive abilities.
If there were *ever* a place to sneak Gleemax into the actual game,
it would be in the form of a Niv-Mizzet Ultimate.
Just off the top of my head, here's some abilities I'd love to see:
+2: Draw a card. N-M, PW deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
-4: N-M, PW deals damage to each creature equal to the number of cards in your hand.
-10: You get an emblem with Gleemax.
So... if we get our second Dragon Planeswalker, what kind of abilities would you like to see?
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary
Melek, Izzet Paragon
Oona, Queen of the Fae
Bruna, Light of Alabaster
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Rhys the Redeemed
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Sen Triplets
The Mimeoplasm WUBRGSliver OverlordGRBUW WUBRGSliver Hivelord(Superfriends)GRBUW
They have Ral Zarek sitting RIGHT there.
I don't think they'll complicate things by making the Firemind a walker.
Legendary Creature again? Definitely.
Niv doesn't NEED to be a planeswalker or even a mythic to be a chase card.
He's that sexy.

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"

I would crap myself if the Niv-Miz arrived as a walker with Gleemax as an ultimate.
That would be too much fun. I'd be happy with the below:
Niv-Mizzet, Izzet Parun 2RRUU
+3: Two damage divided as you choose between any number of target creatures and/or players
-4: Until the end of turn, whenever a noncreature source you control deals damage to a player, draw a card.
-11: You get an emblem with "Whenever you draw a card, you may deal one damage to target creature or player".
Starting loyalty: 5
If he lasts long enough, his ultimate can combo with his second ability! Dreeeeeams~
Making him a PW instantly takes way the "cool factor" of him being those things. Because instead of him simply being a badass hyper intelligent dragon, we can assume that he became a badass through the use the Spark.

Here's to hoping he's NOT a PW....
Or, here's a thought, he somehow managed to manufacture his own spark.
The Phyrexians have been trying to do it for eons, so who knows, maybe Niv managed to crack the code.
(this won't happen)

plz god not a walker... i dont want the mtg storyline to be u/r dragon vs u/b/r dragon...
Ugin was a colorless dragon planeswalker! He just didn't get a card.
EDIT: Regarding Niv being or not being a walker, Niv-Mizzet is probably intelligent
enough to devise a spell that allows him to planeswalk without having a spark. It
is also worth noting that between the period he fought the nephilims and leaving
the fight that Agyrem began to leak and pull Ravnica out of seclusion from the
rest of the multiverse. There is a possibility that he felt this happen and left to
finally travel the Blind Eternities.
I mean.. Niv is leagues ahead of Bolas in intellect and, as far as we know, is the
second oldest dragon in the multiverse.

Niv don't need no stinking spark!
He can build a device that's like two sparks! With blackjack, and hookers.
In fact, forget the device!
Again, they've previously hinted at Niv-Mizzet being a Planeswalker. This isn't news, by any means. If I had to say, I honest-to-God believe that Niv-Mizzet will return as a Planeswalker.
Additionally, my personal twist on speculation regarding Niv-Mizzet...He will return as a powerful ally to the Planeswalkers in combat against Nicol Bolas.
When we see a badass new art released that shows Niv-Mizzet vs. Nicol Bolas (on a playmat, for example), refer here. Lol.

In the same way they hinted that Avacyn was a planeswalker.
In that he went off to mind his own business and told everyone to leave him alone. Which means BUPKISS.
Ravnica was split off from the rest of the multiverse, Niv literally COULDN'T leave Ravnica.
As for the clash of dragons, yeah I could see it. It's properly titanic enough to fit.
But I can't say I like it...

If Niv-Mizzet was a Planeswalker, he would have probably wiped out the Nephilim single-handedly instead of being badly wounded by them.
Im so very sick of hearing that Niv cant be a walker cause he wasnt....time passes things happen and one could and should assume that Niv will not show up as a walker without us getting a story about how he ascended and perhaps a reason why he hadn't in the 15,000 years of life hes had....if hes a walker at all.....just dont understand why so many people are closed minded on this, and refuse to atleast think it could happen

Honestly, I'm sort of sick hearing about how he could.
He's 15000 years old. How in the name of the nephilim could you go THAT LONG without igniting the spark you've had since day one? Especially given the things he's done.
As others pointed out, if he suddenly pulls being a walker out of his tail, he becomes less impressive.
Ravnica was split off from the rest of the multiverse, Niv literally COULDN'T leave Ravnica.
Then how is Jace standing in front of Niv?
Granted, I wasn't around for the original Ravnica block, and I understand that Ravnica was in a seal similar to that of the Shard of Twelve Worlds, but clearly this has either been changed, or was not absolute enough to stop a planeswalker. In addition, the Wiki says that Niv-Mizzet went missing, and even those connected to the Firemind couldn't find him, suggesting he left the plane. If that's true, he's either a planeswalker, or he created a spell to planeswalk.

You know what? I'm just going to go ahead and say that you're wrong.
If his spark didn't flare during the fight with the nephilim, then he probably doesn't have one. Let's see, what triggers a flare?
1) Massive trauma
2) Massive shock (as in oogabooga, not PTSD)
We know that Niv-Mizzet got both when:
1) He was beat up on by the nephilim.
2) He was blindsided in said fight.

Jace and Liliana were on Ravnica AFTER the novels, so that restriction has obviously been lifted.
Avacyn was missing too, and Mikaeus only knew where she was because he saw her imprisonment in the Helvault happen. The other priests and cathars have all felt something lacking. But that didn't mean she planeswalked.

The operative above word was "was" in case you didn't see.
After the guildpact was broken, the magics isolating Ravnica faded.
Ravnica: City of Guilds took place prior to the mending, which was some time ago.
You also ignore the fact that Niv-Mizzet can... you know, just TURN OFF the firemind connection. No, clearly he had to leave the entire world instead.
Niv was suggested as leaving the plane in the same way Avacyn was suggested as leaving the plane.

Correct me if im wrong but the guildpact was still in effect at the time of the fight, and if that was the case, igniting a spark should make no difference if you cannot use it to access the infinite mana of the multiverse or leave the plane since it was cut off from the multiverse....or at least if i worked for wizards and wanted to explain it, I'b blame the guildpact...given the liberties taken with scars i wouldn't doubt the possibility of anything happening in this set....

Niv-Mizzet fight the Nephilim.
Niv-Mizzet is wounded.
Niv-Mizzet flies away from the city towards a hidden tower in the south.
Niv-Mizzet cuts off the firemind.
^ Yeah.... what about this indicates he's a planeswalker? Here's the deal, Niv isn't a planeswalker. He doesn't need to be. Niv is a really cool character because he's unique. It is a little silly to jump on one passage in a book as "proof" of his planeswalker hood when the book clearly states he's staying on Ravnica and later flat out states that planar travel is impossible. It's even sillier when we see Niv is still on Ravnica today.
