Your opponent would have to search because you could just choose not to find, and then it's sucky.
Ah yea, forgot about that

IMO Mana Leak isn't really the problem, it's Snapcaster Mage that is making it the problem in standard.
And tbh tokens are a much worse problem right now.
Do you mean tokens as in the deck or just lingering souls in general? I would say that the swords are a bigger problem than that anyway because the popular thing to do is to equip a sword and turn your creatures sideways.
Hope the counter is good cause I think mana leak is what's balancing the meta a bit. Lots of viable ways to win a tourney.

Perhaps Wizards are trolling the aggro players with this land and we get something like MindBreak Trap at a cheaper cost?

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
Nope.
UG Madness ran him as only counter, some Tog build didn't ran the card at all. Aquamoeba and Wild Mongrel, both made sure the card could be played for one mana with relative ease
yeah true that. the one i remember the best though is Dr. Teeth.
But didnt Carlos Romao run 3 copies of Circular Logic in the Tog deck he used to win Worlds?
Like every deck using U ran Circular Logic while Odyssey was legal. Psychatog used it, but so did Threshold, Madness, Opposition, even the Wake decks that splashed U used it.
In all honesty, this is ridiculously broken. 5 life would be more like it, and even that would be good.
5 life to counter a spell would be unplayable, period. 3 life to counter a spell would be perfect. you have to realize, that if you cast 4 of these a game your screwing yourself out of 12 life. on top of that, if you flash it back with snapcaster. i say 4 life would be pushing it.
The issue with blue has always been it does really head and shoulders above anything with counterspells and no one else does it at all. Look for instance at creature removal, white has a few "mistakes" and generally good cards while black has a legion of abilities to destroy creatures. There really exists no option outside of blue for counterspells.
I agree with this. Blue has had a monopoly on counterspells that just hasn't vanished. More colors should have access to counterspells instead of having to be forced to play blue. Is a card like the following really out of the question? I don't think so:
Planeshifted LeakWW
Instant (C)
Counter target spell unless its controller pays 2.
It's a significantly downgraded Mana Leak, but if you're running white you get access to an actual counterspell. The point being, blue should not be the only color that can interact on the stack. This is one of the issues that stems from countermagic as a whole. There would be a lot less complaining about counterspells if more colors besides blue could directly fight back against them on the stack.
Your opponent would have to search because you could just choose not to find, and then it's sucky.
wouldn't that count for some sort of rules violation/infraction/stuff ? if you do not abide the oracle on the card, you are actually doing something against rules. am i wrong?

1 blue mana is what would be pushing it. 5 life and U is more than reasonable. For 3 life it almost HAS to cost 2 mana. A hard counter for one mana has to actually have a drawback, which 3 life is hardly touching the surface on.

I'm aware that Mana Tithe exists. I'm also aware that Lapse of Certainty exists. I just want to see a more aggressive push towards white getting more counterspells instead of blue being the color that gets 98% of them.

well, i understand that the color pie is useless in M:TG now, but i'mma say it anyways.
thats just blue's thing. i mean, you dont see a straight up blue Wrath do you? sure, black got it, but thats it (as far as i'm aware). And white HAS gotten counterspells, but its mainly blue's thing. but i bet you already know this
I showed it because it is better than the one you mentioned. Lapse of Certainty is also a slightly worse Memory Lapse, so we could argue that counters are beginning to shift to other colors too.
Green also had one a long time ago, but very situational, but i just can't remember the name of it
And tbh tokens are a much worse problem right now.

U/G Madness played Mana Leak as well
Some did, mainly in the sideboard. But you have to remember that this was in the days of good hard unconditional counters as well.
Or you know, Circular Logic was just better?
i think Circular Logic was only good because of Psychatog. I might be wrong though.
