Sorry to keep on bothering, but can you perhaps give us a source for that? I have never read that anywhere.
I'm assuming it was the human bit that you're questioning here, because I've already linked earlier to a place where we have a semi-official source telling us Ob Nixilis was not REALLY a demon.
Also none of this addresses the original question of what Ob really was (which you pointed out as being an old Planeswalker doesn't matter). However, since most Planeswalkers preferred the form/race they were before their ascension (with notable exceptions like Tevesh), the issue remains unanswered. Because the question was whether demons or angels as an example of artificial beings where able to ascend. So the question remains: Was Ob originally a demon or not and does that mean entitites which are made can ascend? And whether or not he is a demon now unfortunately doesn't answer that question.
EDIT: The question now is: does Karn set precedent enough to warant that it is possible? So much about him was unique (including the still not really answered question if some of his parts that come from natural beings actually inhabitated the spark) that it is somewhat awkward to set him up for any precedence whatsoever. But if we allow for that possibilty that it does and we assume based on the fact that most of the old Planeswalkers we knew preferred their original form that Ob did so as well, then we could argue that he was indeed a demon indeed and we could further surmise that articial beings like demons can ascend.
I think the statement that he ISN'T a demon is a pretty definitive statement against him originally being a demon, regardless of what he is NOW.
Anyways, it's not unusual for oldwalkers NOT to prefer their original form. I could easily name several walkers who preferred alternate forms. Besides that, Karn can't really count in asking if artificial beings can ascend since his ascension wasn't a natural issue. His spark came from Urza.
If we allow that artificial beings can ascend, we have to stipulate they still can't have their OWN sparks, which sort of defeats the purpose. Any being can have the spark if they get it from someone else.
It was my understanding that Crucius the Mad from Alara was a Sphinx PW.
Unfortunately for Niv, I think Ral has the monopoly on Izzet PW. Fingers crossed though.
She wasn't. The Alara planeswalkers were...well, the Alara planeswalkers. Characters like Crucius drove home that planeswalkers were/are beings that can travel between planes freely.
And Ravnica can have multiple planeswalkers. Nivvy's too cool to just go out like that.
I really hope so. I mean the whole multiverse is full of these exciting tribes but we tend to only see humans which is kind of sad. Personally I prefer the variety and flavour of others.

We don't know if Ugin is "very dead", we just know that, well, Nicol Bolas took care of him.
...
Ok, he's very dead.
Not so. Last that was heard of him, Nicol Bolas has him "captive". Bolas is a chessmaster. He wouldn't kill someone unless it was needed or in his plans for the grand scheme.
Ugin might still be alive. Just, more or less, permanently out of the picture... For now.
I'm not the biggest storyline follower, but wouldnt Treva and Rith be non-evil dragons?
Just because they are not Black dragons doesn't mean that they're "good" -- Rith was the one, if you recall, that forced Darigaaz, more or less, into raising the other Primevals so that the 5 could take over Dominaria.
I know color doesnt define alignment. i was mostly thinking Treva cause of his life gaining, and forgot about Riths manipulation. thanks for the reminder.
If any of the premivals could be considered 'good', wouldn't that be Darigaaz? He was the one driving back the Phyrexian Invation. He also sacrificed himself into a volcano after realizing the evil he had released on the world, and by doing so weakening the other premivals enough to be dealt with.
ed: I'd also like to see a Darigaaz pw. Sad thing he is gone.

Her. Rith and Treva were females.
And really, none of the Primevals or Elder Dragons were good. They dominated the plane for thousands of years with fear and cruelty.
Oh how I long to see reprints, or updated versions of, the other four Elder Dragons. They're dead though, which is sad. And even though Bolas was the only one of the five who ignited his spark and thus is worthy of a planeswalker card, he wasn't the only one that had an innate spark to begin with.
Anyway.
Yes. Kiora Atua is supposedly a merfolk/elf hybrid, which gives me hope that there will be the occasional non-human planeswalker in the future. They will still be predominately human though.

False. She's exclusively merfolk, not a hybrid.
She is not Gaea's Skyfolk, she is similar to the Zendikari merfolk.
I think one of the problems is not just that there are too many human Planeswalkers, but that there are too many MALE human Planeswalkers. Don't you even dare bring up the "easier to relate to" nonsense! I like to think people aren't so shallow as to let things like race and gender get in the way of more important things that are relatable, such as relations and personalities.
And besides, just because a character is the same gender and race as you...what does that even mean? Who cares?? You don't have a spark, do you?

Yeah, we could badly use a female blue walker.
And honestly, I don't want to count Kiora, because I would really like a more traditional blue female human.
Aside from that, at least we have one in white, black, and red. Nissa does it enough for green, because we have all of TWO green walkers anyways...

Sorry, just had to fix that.
If you're talking about gender, then Jace could be a "female" walker. If you're talking about sex, Nissa and Liliana are female walkers. It's a pet peeve of mine.
Again, sorry.

Ugin, the Dragon-Spirit, who helped Sorin and the mysterious lithomancer keeping the Eldrazi on Zendikar !
Yes! I would love to see Ugin! He's the most non-evil dragon, I think, Wizards has.
I think you're forgetting Niv-Mizzet. Assuming he's not dead.
Yeah, I just wanted to say that. And will probably say more. <_>
