The inclusion of bloodthirst in the core set (and scry before it and [unrevealed mechanic] after it) demonstrates an important step forward in Magic's design.
So they're going to be reusing previous keywords for future core sets (and future blocks, but that's another story.)
I know it's early, but any opinions on what they'll bring back in M2013?

I'm thinking maybe Threshold, to go along with Innistrad's Main graveyard theme.

I'm thinking maybe Threshold, to go along with Innistrad's Main graveyard theme.
Threshold doesn't have resonant flavor, though. And has been described as a mechanic with some pretty fundamental problems, since it forces you to be keeping track of a number that is normally irrelevant during play, which is unintuitive.
Delve may comeback, but necessarily on Magic 2013. Maybe on Innistrad would make more sense.
Anyway, they could bring almost any recen keyword. Bloodthirst is very, very simple and is limited to some little colors and backed up by flavor. Scry is somewhat more complex and open to more cards, and more design space.
Remember the criteria for a mechanic returning in a core set are that it has to be simple and it has to have resonant fantasy flavor. Think hard about whether a mechanic fits both of those before suggesting it.
Bloodthrist has nothing to do with either of the blocks its been placed between so their is no reason to believe the returning mechanic in M13 would some how reflect its recent blocks.
Perhaps buyback although convoke does seem like a good choice as well as it would appear in white and probably green and blue the color that had no or little bloodthirst this time

We aren't allowed to make our own suggestions, perhaps under the impression that the always-shifting R&D mindset might update their own criteria for the umpteenth time?
More like, don't suggest stupid things that wouldn't make any sense. Like buyback.
If someone's repeatedly suggesting something that doesn't come remotely close to a reasonable suggestion, that might be grounds for spam. But that wasn't a mod-text reminder, just asking people to please use your brains.
Haunt would seem to fit in with the current theme. Would also work better outside the expansion set because the mechanic would clash with other mechanics that potentially will greatly utilize cards in the graveyard.
edit: And I think it could expand outside of white/black cards.
Forecast seems like a viable option. Spans the color spectrum and encourages the use of higher casting cost spells. It's a pretty simple concept as well.

Is Provoke hard mechanic?....
mmmm....Kinship? Ripple? Persist? Maybe Echo and as a Kinda hard one...Evoke or Upkeep/Cumulative Upkeep
If the pattern of returning keywords is anything to go off of (probably not for only two entries), we had something from the first block of Modern, followed by something from two blocks later. Following this pattern, it's something from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor.
I'd be cool with Wither. It would be an interesting change from how +1/+1 counters are the primary counters used for modern core sets.
If we get outside that undersupported pattern, I think I'd most like to see buyback or cycling come back. This really isn't about "what do the players want back most," mind (I don't think bloodthirst would've been the player base's first choice, but I could be wrong!) -- I'm just stating an opinion. If they could make those work, they'd be fun to see return.
* The mechanic doesn't have to relate to the blocks that the core set is nestled in between.
* It doesn't have to show up in all of the colors.
With those things having been said, my guess is that the returning keyword in M13 will show up in white, as neither Bloodthirst (M12) nor Scry (M11) showed up on any white cards.
If that's the case, we have a number of options:
- Forecast: If Wizards decides to bring back an ability word, Forecast seems like an excellent choice for the reasons that Azurarutlan has given.
- Exalted: After we get done with Innistrad block, it may be refreshing to see a return to white as pure and just.
- Convoke: Team spirit!
But honestly it would be easier to name mechanics that won't return than those that might, like banding.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it....
Using magic to see into the future is a pretty common fantasy trope.

Who didn't have fun with it? None of the cards on it were broken. Most of them prevented broken things from happening.
Thanks to Spiderboy4 of High~light Studios for the awesome sig.
