Have you guys looked at all the garbage worthless cards cluttering up the Reserved list lately?
One possibility is to simply use the current legacy banned list as the no reprint list. That would make a lot of sense. It would allow the list to be flexible.
As a rule of thumb, any card that is too powerful for legacy, is way too powerful for standard and shouldn't be reprinted anyways. And conveniently, all the real money cards in the game (Power 9, Library, Bazaar, Mishra's Workshop, Mana Drain) are banned in legacy already and will never be unbanned because they are simply way too powerful. SO collectors can feel secure about those cards not getting reprinted.
Another possibility is to replace the entire reprint list with a simple list some what similar to this one...
5 Mox
Black Lotus
Ancestrall Recall
Time Walk
The Original Duals (Possibly)
A few others
Then cool cards like Powder Keg could be reprinted (Powder Keg currently sells for about $1 each, it's value would only go up if it was reprinted and thus type 2 legal).
The list is full of cards that are currently not played in any format and are close to worthless, so why have them cluttering of this list. And some of those cards would actually make for a great and fun addition to standard, and would go up in price if reprinted as a rare.
Remember that just because a card isn't on the list doesn't mean that wizards would ever reprint it. Thousands of popular cards that were never on the list weren't reprinted (rancor is a popular example). So don't assume that wizards would ever consider reprinting the power 9 just because they got rid of the list.
Other than just a few cards, most of the cards on the reprint list would actually go up from their current value if they were reprinted as a rare or perhaps a mythic rare. So I doubt any collectors would mind such a modification.
To prove my point, here is a complete list of all the cards on the list. I think it's easy to see that 99% of the cards on this list are already worthless and no one cares if those get reprinted, so Wizards should make a cleaner smoother list...

Now try and tell me that's not a bloated list filled with chaff.
You posted this on the source, and I didn't like it there, either. You could've at least had the list hidden in a spoiler or something. Right now it's an abomination.
The reserved list is being held together by Maro and a few others who strongly support it. Honestly I don't think there would be a huge problem if it vanished. WOTC has proved time and time again that they know what's "too good to print/reprint" and even so, there are dozens of old over powered cards not on the reserved list that could be reprinted and never have. So let's just do away with it, the world's not gonna end, and it's not as if the following block would contain moxes and bazaars and **** like that.

That's a very good point. The people who make sets aren't stupid. They've been able to keep innovating this game set after set for 10 years which is pretty damn amazing.
There's a ton of cards on the reserved list that are worth about .10 cents now and have no business being on the list. And tons of geniuinely high priced cards (Sea Drakes for example) aren't on the list. And Wizards is still smart enough not to reprint them. So I think the purpose the list currently serves now is jack squat.
I think they would be smart to do away with the list completely, or atleast, dramatically radically reduce it's size.
I generally ignore the reserve list, since it literally serves no function. Most of the cards have no reason not to be reprinted, and if for whatever reason they do decide to reprint, oh let's say Morphling, then they'll just take it off the reserve list. It's not some sort of holy artifact to be revered, but just a a relic that's no longer relevant.

The list should be completely removed. Cards don't change in value based on the fact that WotC "might" reprint them in the future. Anyone who considers this possibility also knows that if WotC really wants to print the cards they will anyway, so the mere existence of the list won't make a difference for these people.
It is so full of chaff....I'll be honest with you on that. But powder keg isn't worth a $1 there I disagree it's value is around $5 because it IS played in some legacy sideboards and is basically a suspended sort've engineered explosives.
So many eternal players would hate it if the duals were reprinted cause it would tank the market. And that leads to the game going bad ways.
Morphling is worth about $12 so don't start with how people wouldn't be angry if they reprinted it; I guarantee you it is a collector's card. And they would be angry once it dropped to $2 after getting the reprint.
Wizards is smart enough not to reprint broken stuff like yawg's will, yawgmoth's bargain, the moxen.
Yeah the reserved list should be cleaned out.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Dude seriously do you really want me to get started on the reserved list? I get really mean and angry when i think at all the jank rares filling up the list. I think of why in the world is a brushwagg on that list? What harm will a brushwagg do to the current market? Or a roc of kher ridges? A 3/4 flyer for 3? Would not even make a dent in the game today.
Sure the list has monstrous cards that will never see the light of day. Academy, metalworker, gaeas cradle, the moxen, the power 9, Ante cards and others But do away with the list take out the jank and keep the good stuff and reprint the jank
If the good cards are too good to be reprinted, and the bad cards are too bad to be played, why bother changing the list at all?
This brings up another point: "just change the list for the few cards that aren't 'too good' nor 'too bad' and eventually reprint them", but they may be so few that in the end it would be a big bureaucratic process (I'm sure there's complicated paperwork behind things like this, since they're, after all, policies) to change something just for a number of cards so little that the change would be rendered irrelevant.
Which is why I voted "I don't care about the Reserve List". I don't think changing it (for any foreseeable reason) would be a very wise corporate move. They'd have to come up with some pretty surprising reason to make the change viable.
What some people don't get is that power level was never meant to have anything to do with being on the Reserved List. The idea was simply to maintain the value of existing collections by limiting the number of cards that could be reprinted - I believe at one time the rule was supposed to be that no uncommons or rares from before a certain date could be reprinted, and for then-newer sets, no more than 25% of the rares that weren't reprinted in the next basic set could ever be reprinted. It was a response to complaints about the dramatic drops in the price of certain cards, like City of Brass, when they were reprinted in Chronicles.
Granting the dubious assumption that this was a worthwhile goal in the first place, the Reserved List seemed like a reasonable way to achieve it at the time. But nowadays, the best argument against keeping the list around is precisely that it no longer serves that purpose; as MaRo has pointed out himself, a lot of the lower-priced cards on that list would gain, not lose, value if they were reprinted, particularly the ones that aren't good in formats like Legacy and Vintage but would be playable in Standard or Block. Hellfire might be such a card.
The argument for keeping the list around has been that WotC needs to be perceived as a company that keeps its promises. But insisting on keeping a promise that the person you gave the promise to no longer wants you to keep is dumb. In this case there is no person who is straightforwardly the recipient of the promise, but by and large, people concerned about the value of their collections don't want WotC to keep this particular promise. Keeping it doesn't make them look honest, it just makes them look stubborn.

I agree that it no longer serves it's purpose, but I would actually contend that it's existance hurts Mtg...
Judging from what I've read here, the better part of the population joined somewhere around Odyssee or later. They've never seen the better part of Mtg's greatest cards.
WOTC would be best served by cutting the list. Then doing in their deck series highlights of Mtg's past, some in premium, some regular. Tombstone Stairwell, Prosbloom, Suicide Black, Tolarian, Living Death, Stasis, Necropotence, Survival of the Fittest, Oath, etc. Let people play with the legendary decks, even if it's only casual, give people chances to aquire old fun cards.
I mean honestly, WOTC has always wanted to make money on selling pre-con decks, do it the right way, cut the reserved list and release the old decks!
1) Players owning significant numbers of Reserved List cards are unlikely to be a majority in a poll like this, which renders majority vote pretty meaningless. Honestly I quite like WotC doing this small thing to protect the enjoyment of a minority who've supported their product for years and years, well before it was the huge phenomenon it is now.
2) Straightforward reprinting of very old cards would be pretty unimaginative. Tweaks to precise wording, types, power level, etc would be necessary to make 90% of the listed cards relevant to the modern game anyway. Why dash to reprint unaltered? Newer players could get the same game experience from a "fixed" version of any of these cards, assuming Wizards want them back at all.

Except that the Reserved List prevents functional reprints. Which means old broken cards or old underpowered cards could be reprinted today with tweaks, but any old cards which were appropriately powered will be unable to be reprinted without potentially major overhauls. Seems ironic.
jeffh is the only guy on this thread that knows what he's talking about. The reserved list has NOTHING to do with the individual cards on it or their power levels. It's a blanket policy that covers ALL RARES PRINTED BEFORE INVASION that weren't already reprinted when the policy went into effect. It doesn't matter if it's a Mox or a Roc. If it's rare and not already reprinted, then it's on the list. The reason it was created was that as card prices moved to $100 and then $200 and up collectors started getting nervous that they'd shell out thousands of dollars for cards and see their investment cut out from under them by WotC's reprints. The list was created as a guarantee that it would NEVER happen. It allows serious collectors to feel safe shelling out $500 for Black Lotus or whatever the current value is.
You can't change it or trim it because it's a blanket policy. It doesn't cover individual cards. It is what it is. Plus, if you start messing with it, then the guarantee loses it's value.
The P11 should not be reprinted ever. The game is about fantasy, and fantasy needs a since of lore; the power 11 give us that. There are cards that are super good, we can't get.
Some things however on the list don't need to be reprinted, as they are almost worthless in modern games - although some may find new functions in EDH. However, keeping the market for collectors alive is nothing to forget.

Arrest this man he talks in math
The Tea Party is the working class fighting against the man fighting for the working class.
It's called EDH kids, there is no such thing as commander.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: WotC should create some player-driven (or at least player-involved) vote to permanently retire the top 5-10 cards from every set, and never reprint that small small subset of cards, except maybe in some superpremium, non-tourney-legal commemorative "Hall of Fame Class of 20X6" printing. As for the existing list, they could find and exploit some loophole, such as the current "premium" version loophole, and print FTV reprints of some sought-after Reserved-but-not-Retired cards. But I'd agree that 90% of the cards on the list either fit the "wouldn't be reprinted—too powerful" or the "wouldn't be reprinted—nobody wants them" category.
It's a blanket policy that covers ALL RARES PRINTED BEFORE INVASION that weren't already reprinted when the policy went into effect.
It is probably not a good idea to lecture people about "knowing what they are talking about" unless you can guarantee that you do so yourself.
In fact, the list is much messier and more arbitrary than you describe. Not only were the standards applied to old sets not entirely consistent (cards that were reprinted in Revised still became reserved if they weren't also reprinted in 4E) and not only have they changed its contents (removing uncommons and commons) after it was instituted, but the application of the list changed during its lifetime: through Weatherlight the list consisted of all rares that were not reprinted in the first coreset which reprinted cards from the expansion, but beginning with Tempest only a selected group of rares from each set were added. You can see this easily by comparing the number of Reserved Mirage cards with Tempest cards, or by looking at Tempest rares like Time Warp and Verdant Force which weren't reprinted at the time but never became Reserved and therefore were free to be reprinted in much later coresets.
It's really just inaccurate to suggest that they can't change or tweak the list because its integrity would somehow be threatened. The list's contents now are already extremely arbitrary and removing cards that hold very low values would not make that more true.
The bottom line is the people who want the reprint policy done away with should just be honest. If you want a mox, lotus, et al. Just save the money and buy one like everyone else. Otherwise, there is really no reason to care about the list. Those who want rid of it hope for a two bit white bordered reprint of the power. Nobody really cares that there is a ton of garbage on the list. The real problem lies with the 30 or so power cards that are the meat of vintage and legacy.
Those cards can be bought at any online store so there is no need to reprint any of them, and reprinting them would ruin their secondary market value. This is a collectable card game, that means there is some value in the collecting of the cards. By reprinting some of the list or doing away with the list it sends a message to collectors and sellers on the secondary market to start expecting a drop in market value of the cards you worked hard to get.
The bottom line is the people who want the reprint policy done away with should just be honest. If you want a mox, lotus, et al. Just save the money and buy one like everyone else. Otherwise, there is really no reason to care about the list.
You are wrong to assume that seeing expensive power cards from the Reserve List printed is the only "honest" reason to get rid of the list. No reasonable person should ever expect Black Lotus or any of the original Moxes or any of the "30 or so power cards" from Vintage and legacy to ever be reprinted list or no list. They simply will never return, no matter what.
However, there are lot of other perfectly fine cards on the Reverse List that shouldn't be there and should be available for reprinting. That is my reason for wanting the list and its associated policy to be done away with and I know why reasoning is shared by a fair number of people.

I am petitioning to get players to stop complaining about mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
Well that is the point that I was trying to make. The current long list of cards on the no reprint list IS an abomination.
I'm not sure about the hiding things in a spoiler thing. Any mod should feel free to do that if it would look better.
What's broken abour Kaysa?
Dominating Licid ain't all that.
[Clan Flamingo]
So many eternal players would hate it if the duals were reprinted cause it would tank the market. And that leads to the game going bad ways.
Morphling is worth about $12 so don't start with how people wouldn't be angry if they reprinted it; I guarantee you it is a collector's card. And they would be angry once it dropped to $2 after getting the reprint.
Wizards is smart enough not to reprint broken stuff like yawg's will, yawgmoth's bargain, the moxen.
Yeah the reserved list should be cleaned out.

Sure the list has monstrous cards that will never see the light of day. Academy, metalworker, gaeas cradle, the moxen, the power 9, Ante cards and others But do away with the list take out the jank and keep the good stuff and reprint the jank

I like 4/4s for 7.
Plot of Dragon's Maze:
Niv-Mizzet plays Realmwright, chooses "Gate". Then a dramatic retelling of the ensuing argument.
Except that the Reserved List prevents functional reprints. Which means old broken cards or old underpowered cards could be reprinted today with tweaks, but any old cards which were appropriately powered will be unable to be reprinted without potentially major overhauls. Seems ironic.
You can't change it or trim it because it's a blanket policy. It doesn't cover individual cards. It is what it is. Plus, if you start messing with it, then the guarantee loses it's value.
Some things however on the list don't need to be reprinted, as they are almost worthless in modern games - although some may find new functions in EDH. However, keeping the market for collectors alive is nothing to forget.
