Since we have seen the lands for the set, what sorts of creatures do we think we shall get? From what I see and what I can garner form what we know is that we definantly will get dragons for red and wizards.
From what I can guess these will be what I think the tribes may be.
Green: The lands looked like jungles and were all primevil so perhaps:
Lizards, Beasts, Druids, Trolls, Insects, ouphe
RED: Looked like the mountains were ravaged by age so perhaps:
Beasts, Barbarians, Elementals, Ogres, perhaps a new race...no goblins hopefully.
Black:Very dark, forboding so perhaps:
Vampires, Shades, Horrors, Assassins, insects
White:Looked very pastoral and very tame so perhaps:
Soldiers, Clerics, Humans:P, cats?
Blue:The islands looked almost geometrical and artifical:
Wizards, Homoculi, various other oddities
Personally, Id like to think white gets the leonin back, And im willing to bet itll have Aven (the bird people..) to, since we saw a couple of those future shifted.
i rate
blue: Myr(im serious), homoculi, other "articicial" races
Myr! Seriously! I haven't thought of that one before. Yes, myrs. I'd like to see them back too. As a blue/artifact race that isn't broken and doesn't suck. But that's probably impossible though. Cause it will be broken or it will suck.
My speculation is:
Humans, Spirit, Elementals;
White: Soldier, Knights, Advisors, Clerics
Blue: Wizards, maybe Vedalken (throws-over)
Black: Wizards, maybe some Zombies.
Red: Goblins (throws-over one more time), Dwarves and hoppyfully innovative races.
Green: Elves, definetly.
Artifact: Bla
Well the guy who started this thread says that he hope goblins don't return
So it should.
"Why?"
Because they are anoing and they are currently the strongest race by far, so they really need a break for like, 3 or 4 blocks. Which will be counted for blocks with Merfolk/Elves/Kithkin and Zombies together.

hey i have managed to evolve my axolotls by feeding them thyroid glands the thyroxine contained in these gland is enough to change these water dwelling creatures into land based creatures

Tay, that's not evolution. It's metamorphosis. Evolution means descent with heritable modification – individuals cannot evolve, unless they're Pokemon.

I personlally hope that Wotc will pay attention to some neglected tribes or tribes that are not seen for long time in Alara, like
Red: Minotaurs, Dwarves, Ogres
Green: Orcs, Trolls, Basilisk
Black: Werewolves(though I think it will be better to classify them as "Human Wolf"),Vampires
Blue: Homarids
White: Paladins
I do think they're going to keep some of the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor creature types prominent in Shards of Alara. Why? Interblock synergy. If you look at Time Spiral block, it had cards from every Lorwyn tribe in it. The reason for this is simple; they knew cards like Lord of Atlantis would be useful in Tribal decks.
Now, if inter-block synergy works that way, we can assume that Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block will have synergy with Shards; for example, the high number of good enchantments could indicate an Enchantment block in Shards.
So I think at least the major tribes are still going to appear in Shards, though in much smaller numbers, as Shards will not (we pray) be a tribal block.
QFT...every time a tribal block rolls around you have people saying "tribes" for the next 3 or 4 sets...
There won't be any "tribes" in Alara, just races and classes that loosely form a common theme.
Which is understandable, though, as the tribes are still relevant as long as Lorwyn is in Standard/Extended.
Wizards keeps relevant mechanics in formats together (remember the return of kithkin, treefolk and such during Time Spiral), so it would not surprise me to have a few stray Lorwyn tribes around Alara. Now, the class tribes will definitely still be around, though.

Has anyone considered the return of Cephalids in blue? As much as I love my merfolk, I have to admit, Cephalids were kind of neat too.

I guess I'll throw some blind speculation in here.
Even if Alara isn't tribal, it seems likely that certain creature types would be more numerous than others simply to reinforce the setting.
I would like to venture a guess that the entire vanilla cycle from Futuresight could represent a group of creatures that will be featured in Alara:
Blind Phantasm= Illusions (Given the artwork on those blue basic lands, I think that illusions could be a possibility.)
Mass of Ghouls= Zombies (Zombies are fairly evergreen so speculating that zombies will be in Alara is almost like speculating that goblins will be in Alara.)
Fomorian Giant= Giants (We did have Giants in Lorwyn and Shadowmoor so having more giants in Alara could give us some interblock synergy I guess.)

Quoted for truthery. There will still be Lorwyn/Shadowmoor creature types in Alara.
Maybe all the creature types we are seeing in Eventide foreshadow the creature types of Alara?
We could see more Hags and Noggles. What do you think?
*edit*
Maybe more Dwarves too? That would be cool.

ummm...what standard and block constructed have you been playing...?
I personally would love to see no more Fae in Shards of Alara, alot more than goblins.
There won't be any overarching creature types in the set. All (or most) of Lorwyn's tribes will appear in small numbers, but creatures will for the most part be scattered across any number of creature types we can't possibly know about yet.

I am convinced that WotC is "dumbing" the game because of all the stupid posts they come across on MTG-related forums

Human
Dragon
Assassin
Wizard?
It will probably be more thematic for the creature types. Lots of humans with classes and other creature types based on flavor.
blade of the 6th pride was a sexy card (im talkin about the balance of the card)

Nacatl War-Pride was a futureshifted card...
green: elves, beasts, trolls, cats, dinosour-lizards
Black: vampires, horrors, shades, zombies(i can hope)
red: Lizards(like vashino), elementals(simalar to flamekin), and the odd giant
white: Human, cats, kithkin
blue: Myr(im serious), homoculi, other "articicial" races

Every time? There's only been 2 Tribal blocks...
I'd like to see what new creature types, if any, are introduced.
Current Decks
WKithkin-Block
GEpic Druids-Casual
Cheap T2 Staples
Red: Minotaurs, Dwarves, Ogres
Green: Orcs, Trolls, Basilisk
Black: Werewolves(though I think it will be better to classify them as "Human Wolf"),Vampires
