@hdhrant - Not everyone has given up... some of us have went into hiding ;). Personally, I'm leaning heavily to playing it at SC Open, Indy. But don't want to share too much until after trying it.
I will say your list is solid and a good start. One card many are missing is Snapcaster Mage - it has insane potential w/ a few other under-the-radar cards along w/ Brainstorm/Probe/Spell Pierce/etc.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
I was thinking about a Standard U/W deck based on Sun Titan and Mirror-Mad Phantasm to get things like Skaab Ruinator out of the graveyard for free. Laboratory Maniac is more of an alt win-con in this build, but I like him in it because he can get searched up with Sun Titan (along with most other things in the deck).
The idea would be to control until you can get Mirror-Mad Phatasm or Jace out (hopefully earlier than turn 5 with the Deranged Assistant ramp), and then use their abilities to self-mill some of your creatures into the graveyard, at which point you can snapcaster mage a noxious revival and get a Sun Titan on top of your library.
If your library gets too low, you can grab the maniac out of the graveyard with Sun Titan and then Visions of Beyond (or snapcaster + visions of beyond) for the win. Or, if your doing well enough with Sun Titan and Ruinators and don't want to risk the maniac getting killed, grab the elixir and put your library back together.
Mimic Vat is in there to either catch the Titan after he's been removed (leading to great things), or catch the Maniac after he's been removed (Sun Titan can grab the Vat from the graveyard). Since you're probably grabbing the Maniac with the Sun Titan for free anyway, you'll likely have the mana to just put a copy of him right back on the field.
Spellskite is for protecting the Maniac mostly.
So that deck isn't exactly what the thread is about, but I do think using Sun Titan + Laboratory Maniac or Mimic Vat + Laboratory Maniac can lead to good things.
Instead of using Noxious Revival to get Sun Titan out of the graveyard, why not use Unburial Rites? That way, you don't even have to draw it; you can just mill one along with your Sun Titan.
it may have been mentioned but if you manage to mill your library and have this guy out you don't have to wait a turn to win, just use a draw spell and that'll do it too
I keep pulling Lab Maniacs in my packs, so now I have no reason not to pull shenanigans
For me, Modern is the way to go with this, but the framework is still very chancy, but a UB control shell looks best, and right now I am trying to up the inevitability. Looking at Transmute effects, Leyline of Anticipation to make instant casting whatever I need more viable, uncounterable draw effects like Street Wraith, and Spoils for deck elimination, with Mirror of Fate as an alternate avenue. Counters to back up and protect the combo.
Haven't nailed it yet, but I may be back soon with a shell to work on. It's just too funny to completely let go :b

The amazing thing about this deck is the synergy between Doomsday and Laboratory Maniac. The card Doomsday literally tutors for Laboratory Maniac, as well as creates the victory condition required for Laboratory Maniac to win the game by virtue of exiling one's library. With a Gush in hand and two lands in play, a player can simply cast Doomsday and stack their new five-card library as follows: Ancestral Recall, Black Lotus, Lotus Petal, Yawgmoth's Will, Laboratory Maniac. The player returns two lands to Gush, drawing and playing Lotus and Ancestral, and then the Ancestral draws Lotus Petal, Yawgmoth's Will, and Maniac.
i've built an EDH/Commander Deck with the maniac. it's working fairly well so far. with momir as general i got all the tutor effects i need to get for example maniac + leveler
this is millistrad. mill your self for bigger creatures and health with the gnaws. also when you have 10 creatures in gy and you put out a splinterfright with wreath its 20/20 with trample, add another wreath and its 30/30. if for some reason you dont kill your opponent with that. mill yourself till you have nothing left. flashback memory's journey and put the lab maniac in. then play lab maniac. flashback think twice. if lab maniac gets aggro'ed, burned, whatever, flash back another think twice. last night i survived the tehehe i have sorin your life is 10 now i hit you with sorin's vengeance not once, but twice. because i flash'd gnaw to the bone for 20 life both times.
If I played this card in EDH, it would be alongside Defense of the Heart and Leveler. As long as Defense triggers, and your opponent is tapped out, you should be able to pull out an easy win. If an opponent could kill Maniac, you can always just search for Primeval Titan and Avenger of Zendikar, or whatever else tickles your fancy.
I've been running him in Modern Eggs. It's an alternative win condition because even if they Path him, I can draw my deck in response and still pull it off. Was able to do this a couple times the last time I played the deck. What a pain to pilot though!
All I know is that I would advocate strongly that you use Chromatic Sphere in any deck that you intend to utilize a Laboratory Maniac Alternate win in. The biggest issue with the Maniac is that you need to actively be losing the game with Maniac in play, so removal in response to your "losing" play will make you lose. To me, the easiest way to prevent this is to make that play something that your opponent can't respond to. For instance: with Thought Lash and Chromatic Sphere in play, if a Laboratory Maniac resolves, you can immediately win the game without passing priority to an opponent to allow them to cast removal or disruption.
I'm a fan of standard, so I will only be recommending standard cards.
First of all, Swiftfoot Boots is a 4 of, along with mana leak and dissapate. Curse of the Bloody Tome is great IF you get enough spells to slow the game down. Ponders are great, because it's card advantage + a mill for 1. Cackling Counterpart is fantastic because you can copy your Maniac at instant speed, twice. Something will definately be needed to absorb damage, like Skaab Ruinator, which will be in your graveyard most of the time anyway right? And Mirror Mad Phantasm, because he is essentially indestructible if you have two mana open. Negate is underused, which is a shame. I suggest one or two of them, because they stop planeswalkers, doom blades that destroy your maniac, and obnoxious wrath effects. sideboard 4 ratchet bombs, because the stop most fast decks, which tears decks like this apart. It takes down werewolves, token decks, and of course, big red.

i tested jace tonight and its one of the worst planeswalkers. it never really does anything except make u lose. i suggest u sell yours for 17 each like i did.
then again on valakut
ROFL what? Valakut? The best card in standard is Jace the mind Sculptor
hm.... interesting.
Haters gonna hate on my jank decks.
I put one in a control deck with 4 Consecrated Sphinxes and myriad amounts of absurdly cheap global draw like Jace Beleren, Vision Skeins, or Lore Broker. Destroy the opponents board and counter everything, resolve the sphinx and cast global draw spells to maintain ridiculous card advantage. My favorite is when I play Arcane Denial and they choose not to draw the cards because it just means I win faster. Do not cast Maniac until the turn you can win. Silence, play him, draw 15 with Wheel and Deal or an activation of Jace's Archivist.
Perhaps you should just send WOTC a resume and tell them why you're better at Magic than one of their employees instead of complaining here, where nobody really has any authority on the matter.
So, is anyone else thinking that Enter The Infinite is the card we've been waiting for to finally get some killer Laboratory Maniac action going in standard?
I'm thinking a couple things at the moment: Enter The Infinite obviously, but also things like...
Omniscience and or Counterlash to help with cost. Maybe a white/blue where you make use of counterspells and things like Cloudshift to protect the maniac?
Do people think this can still get off the ground?
