looking into it Domri Rade could be an anagram of dormidera (also known as mimosa pudica or touch me nots). These plants can have both sex characteristics so this might be a subliminal kind of thing

Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. (Matthew 7:12)
Make the white queen run so fast, she hasn't got time to make you wise.
Pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream.
Doctor, my eyes, tell me what you see. I hear their cries... just say if it's too late for me.
Doctor, my eyes...cannot see the sky. Is this the prize for having learned how not to cry?
Really? I think even Radha is still pretty attractive looking, myself. Can still totally tell she's a girl too.
I never said she was unattractive (I'd have to disagree with that assessment, myself... dem abs). Just that she's not traditionally attractive. I'm speaking of a specific (more Liliana-ish, if you would) look with that.

Slightly more on topic, I would love to see a trans 'walker. Though I agree Wizard's dealing with it would be frightening, but I got faith. Even more frightening would be waiting to read comments made on threads about them. *shiver*

No, s/he is not, most of us can make a argument going either way.
I will remind most that since Domri is a planeswalker, s/he is likely to have climbed him/herself up to a place of power. In order to do this in the Gruul Clans, s/he would have to be very strong, which leads to the fact that s/he's likely not very feminine looking. In fact if Domri was a female she'd probably look like a female bodybuilder, probably similar to what the art is. If Domri was really a 15-16 yo male, in particular a Gruul teenaged male, he's likely to be much bigger.

Why do I like posting in lists:
1. It allows me to express multiple thoughts without a need to write an essay or make multiple posts. 2. I tend to have multiple thoughts at the same time. 3. Having the right first opinion is sometimes more glorious than having a grammatically correct second opinion. 4. It allows you as a reader to pick out the most erroneous point and counter-comment, allowing you the chance to express an opinion and look like a sensible person when I sound like a dummy.
Um, excuse me? Why would a trans character be disgusting?
I'm being very, very restrained in this response, by the way.

Kind of cheating because Magic angels are always female (or are Gabriel Angelfire) and Tariel is called "her" on the mothership. The -iel suffix might make it a bit confusing, I guess, but it's safe to say Wizards probably doesn't care about that bit.
Um, excuse me? Why would a trans character be disgusting?
I'm being very, very restrained in this response, by the way.
Personally, the only way I'd ever say a trans character would be disgusting would be in the way they'd likely portray said character. Magic characters tend to be defined by a few very narrow, exaggerated traits, and when "trans" is one of those traits, the stereotypes get... ugly. Very ugly. Hell, I'm trans myself and I don't want to see them attempt it because I know the results would be awful.
That person's insinuation that trans people are disgusting, however, is downright offensive.
Aren't you guys going way off topic here? Using my eyes it seems clearly to be a young male. Visible chest showing through armor, in a way WOTC usually doesnt do with females. It's also a GR card which also typically features male characters outside of elves.
I couldn't imagine a scrawny male Gruul planeswalker; that would definitely be strange.
Yet, you can imagine a scrawny female Gruul member? The Gruul place a massive emphasis on physical strength and care little for physical attractiveness, so I imagine that their women shall be nearly as strong and as well-muscled as are their men.
She's a girl, just with an exceptionally slight frame and a mohawk. Not every female planeswalker needs to look like Elspeth.
I find Liliana, more than Elspeth, to be the best example of "ultra-feminine," in the traditional sense of the word "feminine," among major characters in M:tG at the moment. Liliana is a classic femme fatale, flaunting her appearance, while Elspeth, at least from her physical appearance (since I have not yet read any books featuring her) seems to be much more reserved, since she wears very modest and concealing clothing.
As for Domri Rade, I shall presume that he is male, since he does appear to be masculine in the traditional sense in the image, and his name also sound masculine to me (as both Omri from The Indian in the Cupboard and Omri Katz, the actor who played Max in Hocus Pocus, are male).
As a side note, how do most people pronounce his last name? I say it as "rah-day," since I always aim for phonetic correctness when encountering new and unfamiliar words, and WotC has not yet provided an official pronunciation for it.

This thread stopped being serious after The Greendale Human Being's post. And I thank Pat for that.
That said, what you do think it would take for WotC to have even the chops to get a trans character right? I think the role this game plays within its genre is mismatched to an initiative at inclusion in the literal way. As fantasy, I feel its role is to abstract from challenges of a physical sort and give the stage to ideological or sociopolitical thought. You could even say it's the weakness of the genre, that its unboundedness, while achieving a free vehicle for narrative device, is at the cost of literary merit in the ... literal content of the tale.
Fantasy (and sci-fi) is supposed to be the world where stupid problems don't exist, because the power to undo them is right before us; while the conflicts, that show how the best thought we have still doesn't know how to solve Life (= differences of opinion), remain.
So I could say transexuality is overly particular for at least some fantasy (Magic) to try to incorporate - that it would be stepping out of the pool when all of its skill is with swimming, so to speak - but the nature of prejudice, social acceptance, individual rights, all those things will be, and have been, open to Fantasy and Magic to involve in their works.
But perhaps thematic resonance is not the best one work can aspire to. Maybe there could be a "Not-So-Subtle-Allegory" trope used, to the effect of a nod to transexuality? I can't think of it, though. Or maybe that's exactly the mismanaged idea that becomes a travesty.

I assume a phonetic pronunciation is probably correct. I'm sure once s/he is spoiled, someone will ask Maro on his tumblr and we'll know for sure.
he/she's wearing something over the breast area. Some sort of armor, which naturally would disguise the presence of female secondary sex organs. A scrawny Gruul male would be weird(backstory dependant), but a scrappy Gruul female would not be. I'm down with the punk rocker idea, and maybe I'll tape a pic of Wendy O. over it if i get one. I think Domri may be female, but it's really hard to tell. I probably will do the Wendy O. thing regardless.
EDIT:are there any Gruul females portrayed on other cards? can we see what their style of dress/appearance would be? we could compare if there are any examples.
EDIT: Wild Cantor is the best example maybe. Tatoos, fairly buff. hair is long though. The only other example seems to be the new Burning Tree Emissary. But she looks nothing like Domri or The cantor. So I have no idea.
Breasts aren't sex organs. They're not even organs. They contain organs, IE: mammary glands, but they are themselves not organs, nor are they related to reproduction. Sure, they exist to feed children, but they are not involved in the actual reproductive means. Breasts are not sex organs.
I wouldn't want them to try that. They wouldn't even be able to pull that much off to any kind of satisfactory end.
Here's how they could do it well: One day, they just up and declare, say, Elspeth (or Nissa or Chandra or whatever) as being trans. And that's it. No effect whatsoever on characterization. Not really brought up or made central to any plotlines. Just a character trait that exists but isn't central to the character.
But in these days of focus-tested design-by-committee, they can't have subtle characterization anymore. They can't have minor character traits. Everything about a character has to be loud and simplistic, reduced almost to a stereotype of itself and dominating the entire character. And that's not the kind of character design philosophy that's any good for things like LGBT characters.
This thread has migrated from Magic Storyline to Magic General and now is in the Rumor Mill under New Card Discussion. Awesome.

Agreed, I've been following this thread from the beginning and the movement amuses me as well LOL.
When I first saw the art, I pictured some sort of wild, ragged-robed anime-style boy who would be from some sort of Naruto World, where he had crazy powers and could probably do a bunch of super fast back-flips off trees and stuff. That's what he looks like to me, I picture him fighting Naruto and doing magic or something.
