I had a super long post all typed up to explain my unhappiness about this "expansion". I decided the tl;dr version was better:
I have a playset of all the modern staples, because I've played standard faithfully for many years. I invested a lot of time and money to get them. I'm worried that the value of the bulk of my collection is about to drop significantly because of all the potential reprints.
Is it insane to e-bay all my modern staples before they get spoiled and re-buy them after their price drops?
You'll take about a 12% loss on ebay/paypal/shipping and maybe a small amount more if you get scammed. You'll be selling at lower than TCG low. Your cards are originals and you probably have a lot of sentimental value attached to them. Personally, if I intended to continue playing I'd simply keep them. There is a chance that with the increased player base in modern prices could stay the same or even rise. Crazy but it could happen.
I am going to sell or trade all my Modern staples that I am not sentimentally attached to, like my Kokushos, but I do not have many. It will be a tragic day for me, but I think I will feel better when I buy/trade for them for less later.

Such a knee jerk reaction to decide to dump your product. This will be a small print run (so not much more supply), attempting to increase the modern playerbase (increased demand). I really doubt your cards are going to depreciate enough to justify selling and repurchasing your entire modern card base.
I'm in a similar boat, have most staples, and frankly I'm not all that concered, in fact, I'm pretty happy Modern may increase in popularity. I doubt we'll see TS Goyfs crash due to a crappy reprint at Mythic rarity in a limited release set.
Tarmogoyf will still be a very expensive card. I expect supply of Modern Masters to be very low compared to most sets, and original versions of those cards will still be worth more.
I kind of felt "threatened" a little bit, for a few moments, because I invested in some expensive foils for my cube, like Dark Confidant and Thoughtseize, but I got over it. Magic isn't a good investment.
Edit: Not to mention, you've still got the best part of a year before this thing comes out.
Expecting non-reserve list cards to hold their value is very foolish. The only reason to get modern staples is to play them and with this product coming out, you'll have more people to play with.
Deal with it and enjoy playing the cards for the reason you bought them. to play.
Actually, I bought them for a wide variety of reasons. I bought some Dark Confidants because I decided I wanted to collect black cards, but then changed my mind when I saw how expensive some were. I bought Kokushos because I love Kokushos. I bought several rare cards to decorate the walls of my room because it looks much nicer with cool cards than with wallpaper. And I bought a few Cryptic Commands to tear up in front of my friend who played them against me all the time, but then he moved away before I got a chance. (Someday though, he'll visit and be expecting everyone to be happy to see him, but instead I'll just tear up all the Cryptics and throw the pieces in his face. I can't wait! :D) As you can see, I did not actually buy many Modern staples to play with because I have other cards for that.

You could sell those Cryptic Commands and buy more Kokushos. Problem solved!

But if I did that, I could not tear them up in my friend's face, which would be unfortunate because I have been looking forward to that for months. So the Kokusho dilemma remains unsolved.

You know, I have been trying my best not to post unless I get a real urge to, and boy my fingers are itching now.
How the **** do you have the nerve to complain about these reprints and losing money when you do something this stupid? I don't even care of I get infracted for this, <you've got to be the biggest idiot I've ever read and boy I have met some characters on the internet and you take the cake after naladude.>

I feel the same way dude, every time I read a post of his I have a very difficult time believing he isn't a troll.
On topic, I just want to echo the aforementioned sentiments of "originals are worth more" and "cards are for playing." I can guarantee that there will be no significant price crashes because of this product.
Hell no. If you don't play Modern, you've had your chance to cash out every time Standard rotated. If you held on to those cards anyway, you should have known the risks of them getting reprinted.
Morals of the story:
1) Cards are not a good investment.
2) Modern-legal cards are not bound by a Reserved List. Every time you buy a Modern-legal card or set, you acknowledge this fact.
I welcome RTR for printing Shocklands, and Modern Masters for every other staple that would be in it.
The only cards who's prices will me mayjorly impacted are cards that are on the expensive side but get reprinted in this set as uncommons. Stuff like (if these are included) Finks, Spell Snare, and Aether Vial. Bob could go down if the art is not new and it is printed at Rare and perhaps Mutavault if it is printed at rare. Goyf's price (for the original) may dip a skosh, but not enough to be worried about, and other cards printed at Mythic will not drop either.
Personally, I don't think you should be worried about the value of your collection anyway, as play value should be the only value you value, however I don't think monetary values will drop much at all. Keep in mind this will bring a lot of people in to the format, so there will be more demand.
I never bought cards in this game for the sole purpose of collecting them. I bought them to play with them. So if the prices of some of my cards go down, so what? I still get to play the cards and they're still as good as they were at the higher price.
Goyf doesn't suddenly become a worse creature because it went from $80 to $50 or whatever.
And ... since there are some modern staples I don't have because I didn't play those decks (like Faeries) I have a chance to get some cards that I either didn't get the first time around or traded away.
So for me, it's a win-win.
The only thing that concerns me is the MSRP of the packs being tossed out the window and being sold for ridiculous amounts of money.
Expecting non-reserve list cards to hold their value is very foolish. The only reason to get modern staples is to play them and with this product coming out, you'll have more people to play with.
If these card where reprinted in standard sets that would be even more people to play with, and the increased demand would counteract the increased supply.
The only reason to do it this way is it will get Wotc more money.
A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
