Exile the top X cards of your library.
For each instant and sorcery card
with converted mana cost X or less
among them, you may cast that card
without paying its mana cost. Then
put all cards exiled this way that
weren't cast into your graveyard.

OH...MY...GOD....!!! I think EDH is going to be vile because of this. This is, as it says, EPIC!!!
This has me thinking how many crazy ideas have been brewing from the past 2 decades or so that had the notion "You can't do that... it's broken..."
Well, w/ the creation of the mythic rarity, now the abomination ideas, wild ideas, and sparks of insanity can come true. If a mad genius... err, I mean Dracogenius can think it up, it'll find itself on a card.
What will they think uup next???
I am very curious how many RDW/Control decks will pop up. Modern and legacy are going to have a field day.
You can splash blue for Brainstorm & Ponder with just a few dual lands, and the rest can be burn. Add Tron-style, and the "X" cost just got high quick.
hoooo-ly.... wow. That's something... It's like genesis wave for instants/soceries. I notice that the casted instants and sorceries end up in your exile, which is an obvious nod towards trying not to break this with Past in Flames, but the thing is that the card itself doesn't. So you can still flash it back. This seems horrific. I LOVE IT. Must test in storm... If you can use this on your combo turn, you really should hit rituals, which being cast for free will almost certainly give you your mana back. Man, my mind is reeling...

Now the question is when does this card go to your graveyard? Before or after all the spells you cast for free resolve?

Unless I'm very much mistaken, everything ends up in your graveyard. On the resolution of a spell (or it being countered), unless it or another effect in play makes it go somewhere else, the spell goes to the graveyard. I'll ask for some rules quotes here, but I think the free-cast spells get sent to the grave.

Actually, no. They do get put into your graveyard. Which makes this potentially insane with Past in Flames and Burning Vengeance.
You even get to turn the useless ones (like counterspells) into something with Nivmagus Elemental. Now just give us some worthy mana rituals and we'll be on our way.

If everything ends up in your graveyard, that's broken dumb. The synergy between this and past in flames is crazy. If you pay at least X=4 and hit at least 1 ritual and 1 past in flames, you can do essentially the whole thing again. Yikes. And for UR storm, this is a deck with around 16 lands and maybe 3 enchantments, and the rest of the deck is instants or sorceries... So you should hit 2 of every three cards being relevant. Wow.
As I've said in the rumor mill proper, this reminds me of mind's desire, except not as broken.
Cool card, but I dunno if it will be great in storm atm or not. I don't think legacy decks will care as much, lists there seem pretty tight...but who knows, upsets happen all the time I guess right?
Modern I don't know as well, maybe it has a home there?shrug

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Now the question is when does this card go to your graveyard? Before or after all the spells you cast or free resolve?
Pretty sure afterwards. You cast the spells as part of the original spell resolution.

Well casting a spell and it resolving are two different things. So my question is would this be in the graveyard before the spells actually have an opportunity to resolve?
So in Modern, T2 Izzet Signet, T3 Epic Experiment for 8 with the full 'tron.
Reveal Temporal Mastery, Reverberate and a bunch of ridiculous stuff? Ancestral Vision x 4 is a must, of course...
That is a way to do it.
Personally just taking this baby on to a storm deck seems a lot easier / more reliable. Much smaller chance of hitting a non spell and has a much bigger chance of just going infinite with past in flames.
I really want this to be a card in standard. I'm hoping that Izzet will get a ritual spell, due to the 'coils' or whatever that were mentioned in the flavor article.

Worthless with x<3, even with Brainstorm, and if you want to pay 5+ mana to blow out an opponent there are far better options.

Krenko's command + Battle hymn + Burn at the stake. you decided the order of resolves so you can make a ton of tokens and burn at the stake.. and you only need 7 mana to do it.
They need a replacement for Kulthoda rebirth, there are chances of some more red ritual cards turning up as well.
In any case it is rediclous fun in EDH.
Pioneer:UR Pheonix
Modern:U Mono U Tron
EDH
GB Glissa, the traitor: Army of Cans
UW Dragonlord Ojutai: Dragonlord NOjutai
UWGDerevi, Empyrial Tactician "you cannot fight the storm"
R Zirilan of the claw. The solution to every problem is dragons
UB Etrata, the Silencer Cloning assassination
Peasant cube: Cards I own
That is for 6 not 8, and given you've not set up your library at all you are likely to flip up something like:
Izzet Signet
Urza's Mine
Urza's Mine
Ancestral Vision
Epic Experiment
Past In Flames
And so for your investment of 8 mana you get to draw 3 cards. Tell me, does Tidings see play in Modern?
