I think the Skylasher is a Gruul-esque creature [minus the watermark] since there is Gruul flavor text and it just hates on blue creatures. So sad that it is not a spider....
Oh yeah, my bad.
And it really could be a spider, I mean... there's like just one spider in the whole block (Archweaver), while there were plenty of insects already before DGM...

I'm getting a vibe that it was meant as an intentional depowering of the game, which has been in the works since Zendikar- once INN rotates, we'll lose most of the power cards and be in homelands 2.0
Or a least we would, but we'll still have too many pushed and broken cards like thragtusk, voice, whatever else, and instead of being homelands 2.0 we'll be in a "99% of cards are jank, only a couple decks are playable"
These cards are pathetically underpowered even for limited's sake, and design completely dropped the ball and phoned in half this block. Heck, an entire guild was destroyed, 1/5 of the entire block, because design screwed up the mechanic and development couldn't balance it in time, so rakdos got their keyword as a filler mechanic they wrote in 10 minutes on the basis it couldn't be broken
Oooh, more ragemongering hyperbole directly from the master for my sig! Thanks!
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
I guess the only thing I can really say about the set is 'Welp'. I kinda had a feeling from the moment the champions were spoiled that I was going to be disappointed, and with the exception of a few cards I think I was mostly right. Seriously, two over load cards? A common worse than Dynacharge 99% of the time and the day of the Dragons thing? Alright, I guess. No good reprints at all, either. Fuse spells mostly unplayable.
I just don't understand sometimes, you know? I guess at least my second favorite guild got SOMETHING in Mana Drain and the Mimic, but watching the Izzet get screwed is still hard.
Ugh, if I calledt this set disappointing it would be a vast understatement. I see only a select few cards that are worthwhile. Despite all my disappointment, I think I would've been able to overlook this set's shortcommings if they could've reprinted Mortify or even Electrolyze. This block started out spectacular with RTR, and GTC was okay, and now we get this..
To be honest, after the set that is RTR, we were always going to be disappointed.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.

Am I the only one who thought that RTR was not spectacular, but was actually quite mediocre? I mean designwise mostly, development kept it chock full of a enough cards that were strong, but only by pushing them hard, but it didn't build anything upon where rav1.0 left off, just rehashed it really, and the entire rakdos guild was cut by devleopment before it went live and replaced by filler jank.
Gatecrash was a pile of poo, and this is too, sure, but RTR was no shining comparison like NPH or ZEN or ROE
I used to think wizards was just putting all their bad content into middle sets, we had worthless conflux and worldwake (aka the jace lottery), and MBS was terrible but so was the 'infect reprint SoM' so that broke the trend, but DKA did it again, and just when I thought I was onto something, this block came along and stunk all over. I had pretty good hopes too, given the names behind it and how well rav1.0 turned out.
Also... WHERE THE HELL ARE THE MERFOLK!? For so much crap about how Merfolk were beginning to appear in Ravinca... we got 3. Well now 4 because of Vorel. What the flipping flop is that?! Also Vorel really needed to be a Elf Merfolk. This Human Merfolk creature type crap is just dumbest thing I have seen since Coiling Oracle.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.

RTR block is no Ravnica block, but throw some shocks in it and start all the sets with the same letters and most people will be happy.
A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
Whelp, this set is pretty underwhelming, nice to see Wizards keep the 5th dawn curse alive and well.
Not every set can be a grand all powerful money house of value cards. I look at it that RTR gave us a great selection, and if these two are not so good I'm okay with it.
After all, if wizards did throw in the obvious powerhouse cards in every set that is all you would ever see hit play.
While I'm not happy about this set I'm not just going to says its bad and cry about.
Though it looks like they just went back to Rav just to hype it and sell it cuz shocklands.block and it shows. There are almost no reprints from the first block that made everyone fall in love with it then. All this new stuff is 70% limited junk because thats what a lot of new players do is draft and play kitchen table magic and sometimes go to fnm.
I really wish they would do more reprints per set in return blocks like this.
To be honest, after the set that is RTR, we were always going to be disappointed.
I didn't think RTR was that great. The bigger trend here is the quality of the blocks imo: Zendikar (amazing), Scars (meh), Innistrad (amazing), RTR (okay)... It could be coincidence, I don't know, but the "return" blocks haven't been as good as the "brand new plane" blocks lately. The mechanics in RTR block in particular don't excite me. Still, there are plenty of DGM cards on my wish list; there are plenty of goodies in my eyes.
I had a feeling a lot of people would be somewhat disappointed with Dragon's Maze. The problem with a small set containing ten guilds is that not everyone gets what he/she wants... (though I'm not sure if you'd really call that a "problem") My advice for those who aren't impressed by DGM: don't complain, buy less product/singles if that's how you feel. My guess is that a lot of those who complain end up buying the "revolting" cards anyways.
Lot of ppl whining. Simply put, this block had something for everyone (cept Dimir, which seems best when used along side other guilds....like sleeper agents). Old Rav has always been my fav block, and it always will be special to some of us....but dont be over critical.
Maybe Im just saying that because Golgari and Orzhov got some nice new toys...

None have old guild keywords on them and could have reprinted in one of the sets and most of those are just the rares thats not even counting more of the commons that I can't recall off the top of me head.
I really hate how much 5+ cmc cards we got for Orzhov, it's basically a limited death sentence unless we open lots of Boros and Rakdos cards along. And the power isn't that good either, the only really good Orzhov cards are the vampires and the Extort lord.

Did it ever strike you that some of us didnt want a ton of reprints? And many old cards got a modern day port.

No, they didn't. The X spells were never a cycle, just a coincidence.
Lol that was quite funny, the amount of rage there.

Oh yeah, I remember now. It sucked!
If they reprint all the good stuff, it only leaves room for the bad stuff.
