To those who say she's overcosted, really? She's an unblockable attacking and defender who can't die to creatures and will you not only kill any creature that hurts you, you also get a flier! Once Grissy rotates out she will be the new reanimator target.
Teysa's design makes me want to scratch my head. It's odd. She'll be a steady attacker and blocker being a 4/4 w/Vigilance and pro: creatures, but the high cost and the "be attacked to make tokens" thing is strange. I guess it's a great deterant for potential attackers but it's just so not-proactive... Meh. I won't be building around her any time soon.
I like the Gatekeeper cycle quite a bit, the red one's going to be going into my Brion Stoutarm multiplayer "steal your stuff and fling it at you" non-EDH deck for sure.
Yes she costs 7 mana, that's a thing. Can we get that out of our systems? As a card, she's both flavourful an reallllly interesting, I am looking forward to playing around probably with reanimator.. which we may get a new enabler for in this set
I wouldnt have minded her being a 2/2 with this ability and costing 4.

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
I hope everyone around here hates her as much as people in this thread. Should make her easy to pick up for me...I love her. She will be fun to build around for commander. A slow grind control deck just seems fun.
Teysa is much better than most people are giving her credit for, although I am not sure if she will find a home in constructed given that Obzedat is a much better creature. That said, we live in a world of Angel of Serenity and Sphinx's Revelation for 7-Teysa is very castable even at 7 mana, and her abilities are out of this world good. Have any of you ever played with the black Mikaeus in ISD limited? His destroy all humans ability profoundly changed the board, and Teysa destroys any creature that deals damage to you and blocks any creature that you want. If your opponent doesn't have you dead or have a removal spell for her immediately then their attacks just stop, and that's fairly insane. I see Teysa as a sideboard card that control decks will bring in against slightly slower aggro and midrange decks. She's too slow to matter against something like Naya Blitz, but would be fantastic against any deck trying to attack you with Thragtusks or Restoration Angels.
wow.. thats so cringe worthy. Teysa pretty much blows. I'm kind of ****ing tired of them shoving obvious commander stuff down our throats. Why is everything white black so overcost? This is just frustrating... feels like my favorite guild always gets the reject material. The best black white cards all seem to be from old design while the new just ultimately feels terrible.
Vindicate, Gerrard's verdict, hell even death grasp. Those cards feel very white/black. If you ask me the most flavorful legendary for the color is Selenia and frankly she's terrible.
After they spoiled Orzhov Charm i should have known not to expect much. Its like they are getting the "izzet" treatment from the first trip to ravnica... just a terrible experience overall for any real black white fan. Maybe its too early but its not like we are getting any other b/w legends anytime soon and if they intend to overcost anything with black white mana symbols there wont be much worth noting
teysa is too expensive for regular play and nothing reanimator is interested in. she may as well be a 4/4 unblockable with a subpar ability. thats just not worth it.
as for the gatekeepers, how often will anyone actually get enough gates in a limited deck to even have a good chance at their abilities? I know every pack has one for DGM, but still. it seems they will almost always be 2/4 for 4 in each color. even if you do get their abilities, it's not a big enough payoff for most of them.
I love the Gatekeeper cycle for limited. Giving every color Pillarfield Oxen with highly relevant bonuses ought to do a lot to slow down the new draft format, to let everyone get Loucksy with their mana bases.
Tesya may not be great, but I feel like a lot of people are forgetting the first line
Vigilance, Protection from creatures is very powerful. Basically swing for 4 every turn and still hold tesya back as a blocker.
So....she actually nonbos herself. Why does she need to deter attackers with a second ability? Her first abilities do that.

so sad with teysa.. not really playable in any metric. there are better reanimation targets and esper doesn't want her because you get more effect out of AoS at 7cmc.

Well that's too bad. 5 limited fodder, a potential limited bomb (with little playability outside of that), and nothing else worth noting. See ya'll tomorrow night at 9!

Teysa is dealing them 4 a turn, so if they aren't killing you they will soon be dead. That's fairly proactive, no?
Is it just me or do Teysa's abilities not even work well together? Vigilance plus pro creatures means you want her to block creatures on your turn, but her other ability requires those creatures to hit you so you can get the token. The design is just bad, I feel like R/D had two ideas on how she should play and they slapped them both on her card and combined the mana costs to get that atrocious 7.
The gatekeepr cycle is meh, will only be good in Dragon's Maze limited due to the gates in every pack. Still don't make Maze's end anywhere close to playable.
Tesya is probably one of the best rattlesnake generals I've seen yet. It's not just No Mercy on a stick, it actually nets you a creature advantage in addition to being herself being immune from combat on defense and unblockable on offense every turn. I like it much better as a general than Obzedat.
Gatekeepers are exactly what was needed for limited. I look forward to drafting all of them, especially the black one.

Obzedat is the best guild leader by far, and Lingering Souls is so good that Wizards has printed like 20 hate cards for it in Return to Ravnica block. Also, I don't know if you have heard of this card called "Unburial Rites", but I saw some people playing with it at my local PTQ. It looked pretty good.
