I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
Ok, so if she's not for Rites, she's for Commander.
In fact, I think it's just been confirmed that DGM Champs are for EDH.
Aside from the occasional creature that is turned Legendary for balance reasons (think Geist of St. Traft or Thalia), all Legendary creatures printed nowadays are for EDH. Thanks for the update, captain.
EDIT: As an aside, new Teysa is very much bleh. Vish Kal already had the slot in WB as the overcosted general and he is much better than Teysa.

"I don't know why people say a double-edged sword is bad. It's a sword. With two edges." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter
horribly designed creature.
how does a lady with a limp have a stat higher than your average hill giant and still have the mobility to have vigilance and still not be effected by creatures!?! makes no sense at all.
the gatekeepers are nice though, I know a friend who will love these for his gate deck.

a small sentence for you to read while you ignore my post.
Is it just me or do Teysa's abilities not even work well together? Vigilance plus pro creatures means you want her to block creatures on your turn, but her other ability requires those creatures to hit you so you can get the token. The design is just bad, I feel like R/D had two ideas on how she should play and they slapped them both on her card and combined the mana costs to get that atrocious 7.
The gatekeepr cycle is meh, will only be good in Dragon's Maze limited due to the gates in every pack. Still don't make Maze's end anywhere close to playable.
Teysa was likely designed for Commander, and her abilities are exceptional in that format. She deters people from attacking you and gets them to attack someone else while dealing 4 general damage to a player of your choice every turn.

As for the asymmetry, I like it. It's like Reckoner. It forces your opponent to think more, which is always good while giving you options which is great.
More cards like this please!
Buy yeah, 7 mana is so outrageous I'm just perplexed right now.
I wish she was a bit more crafty instead of a giant bomb, but as a card, she is a solid fatty.

She is not even exciting for Commander. I am so frustrated at the crude Orzhov has been dealt this set. Maybe it will look better when Innistrad rotates.
She comes with natural unblockability, which means that you only have to worry about making her indestructible to be golden. She has three built-in ways to protect you while you're whacking people with her: Her No Mercy deterrent, the tokens it creates, and her never-tapping voltron'd diplomatic immunity'd booty.
Yes, she's expensive. So is Thrax, and people have no problem playing him.
So....she actually nonbos herself. Why does she need to deter attackers with a second ability? Her first abilities do that.
That's not a nonbo, that's insurance. Attacking a Teysa player seems a lot worse when you not only have to worry about your creatures dying if they hit, but one of them might not even hit at all.
The cycle - Will be reasonable in limited with the new abundance of guild gates. I think that Black > White > Blue > Red > Green, but Green is the best at enabling multicolored decks and finding extra gates so that is fair (and seven life is far from irrelevant, especially if you can flicker it).
Teysa - Bleh. She's just not for me. In standard she's just too slow even if she is a game-ending threat. In Commander she's interesting, but 7 mana is a lot to ask and old Teysa or old Ghost Council are a lot more fun to build around.

So I'm "loving" how some Champs work with their guild mechanics, Gruul and Simic, but the other two have absolutely no connection.
Just blah. Probably end up running more Gates then I think I will in this draft format and some gatekeeper will be good but bleh to this preview night.
Finally! Teysa is what a lot of Commander players have been asking for since forever, an Orzhov general which encourages a different theme frim sacrifice/death triggers (pillowfort being the case). Also the gatekeepers could be neat in limited, with gates in the land slot of every pack.

Gotta hate it when a night's spoils are so disappointing. Especially when one of the spoiled cards was looked forward to so much. Hope the rest of the Champions are better (read cheaper & more relevant) than what we've seen.
Crypt Ghast, ol buddy, you just found your purpose. Now to buy every pacifistic spell I can find, grab my root born defences, and go collect some public donations.

And Teysa - holy crap - then again, 7cc is a lot, but anti-creatures abilities are pretty solid.
