I like that the new Champion cycle looks like it is going to be XY casting cost rather than XXYY casting cost. Much more playable in constructed and as non-generals in EDH.
This is the same way that Ravnica block did the cycles. XXYY Guild leaders with XY Champions. It was expected.
Why? When is the prerelease promo ever constructed playable?
I was going to make a list of constructed playable prerelease promos, but it would have taken too long. There have been many MANY constructed worthy prerelease promos.
Also, if this is sort of Greek/Roman themed (I'm thinking God of War), I will be so psyched. There is so much potential for flavor and awesome ideas there. I guess Nyx does sound like some underworld you would travel to.
Man, I am so pumped. I feel like WotC has been on point this last year or two.
Ruric Thar is just busted. It continues the trend of creatures being ridiculous and anyone who disagrees getting hit in the nuts with a baseball bat. Seriously? If you don't counter this (or have a ton of creatures in play already) you just lose next turn. You probably can't even remove it because it would kill you to do it.
He costs 6 mana to cast. By the time he's up, you should have counterspells up, unless they want to waste a cavern of souls.
Worst part is, hes a L1 Judge, and said the words "Ever" even if the promos recently havent been playable, theres no defending the ideas that promos were never good

But the guilds are sending their champions into the maze, so of course Gruul is sending in a brute. What'd you expect?
In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.
I think wizards is sending a clear message by making this mythic land the prerelease promo after brifely taking a stance not to have mythics as prerelease promos that they don't care what rarity the prerelease promo is as long as its not remotely playable in constructed competetive formats.

Haha, ok fine. But at any rate the last few they've done have not been.

The Eldrazi are still stuck on Zendikar.
Not necessarily true. The Return to Ravnica reveal came after the Q&A last year.
Having Ral Zarek as the champion wouldn't make sense. Why would you put a Mythic Planeswlaker in a rare creature cycle?
Why would he be the champion? He's the planeswalker for the set. It'd be awkward to have a 9-card legendary creature cycle.
