1. Fail. Should have been a d20!! A 20-sided die for the expansion symbol, so that the d20 it comes with has, on its 20th face, a d20! o.o
2. Mother of Runes, or Force of Will, or Control Magic, or Mana Drain even all seem possibilities (some much less probable) for the spoiler art. I don't think it could be a Red, Green, or Black card because the Blue is very strongly paletted and Mother of Runes only gets to be considered because it looks a lot like a Mother of Runes.
3. Rishadan Port, Fires of Yavimaya, Arcbound Ravager, Umezawa's Jitte, and Jace, the Mind Sculptor have all been guessed rather repeatedly as "AWESOME CARDS OF AMAZING" to put in here.
4. Add up the previous 4 theories, then factor in that the MSRP of the Vault has only gone up 4 dollars, but has 5 more cards...
5. Conclusion: This is Not Commander's Arsenal #2. The dollar-density awesomeness of this set is going to be VERY dissappointing for most people I think. It will likely be around $150 on the *Secondary* Market,IFyou pay a decent amount for shipping or are bad at using Google, TCGPlayer, and eBay in multiple tabs at once. This compared to the most I ever spent for a Vault that I thought was a good deal being $125 counting shipping and everything up, and if you are a combination of patient and lucky, you should be able to find $99 Vault sets without trouble. Cheap for this set is going to be around $120 Secondary.
Which means we have a 'budget' of approx. $120 of cards to throw in here, and a couple of the cards named, if reprinted, would not actually be worth as much as originals.
I sincerely hope the following Probable cards are not in it, because if they are, they would throw off the value balance so much that the remaining 19, 18, 17, 16...cards would be progressively awfuller and awfuller:
1. Jace, the Mind Sculptor- deserves a Vault, but not this one. We want to see a nice spread of great cool things that makes each Magic Year memorable, and Jace being in this, ON TOP of the Years 1994-1998 needing representation, mean that some years would plain get screwed if they picked Jace.
2. Mana Drain- it's worth 2 Jaces. That's 2x the problem I just described. Control Magic is not remotely as impressive as Mana Drain, but Force of Will might...JUST MIGHT...be allowed an excused presence due to it being so Old and it crying for a reprint for much longer than Jace has been. Jace can wait 10 years for From the Vault: Planeswalkers, Force of Will's chances look slimmer and slimmer (unless the doom of Magic comes and the Reserved List gets ended and yadda yadda)
3. Thoughtseize- last I checked, this card's $ tag was innappropriate for what it does, but that's still its tag. I would much prefer this to be reprinted in Modern Masters, which has a larger budget for this kind of thing, than a box with only 20 spaces, ALL of which need to be awesome.
4. People keep wishing that one day a Box of Magic cards will contain no filler at all. That day is unlikely to be this day. I am interested in hearing who has thoughts on which years will likely be 'filler'. (Fires of Yavimaya is, for example, an outstanding candidate for a Filler card, as is Psychotog, because in addition to being fitting, they aren't breaking anyone's banks, meaning the rest of the set has more room to be awesome.)

If we can name 10 cards we'd be HAPPY to see, none over $5, then it gives me hope there is room for the remaining 10 to be close to Realms or Relics standards of WOW. I'm hoping that 1993 and 1994 give us both the cheapest and the most expensive card between them because Old MAGIC is kinda Great like that.
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.
A smart shopper ought to be able to find FTV: 20 for a good deal less than $150 even if they have no option but to choose among various highly marked up ones. $99 for Realms was just about fair, $125 for 20 would feel somewhat like biting a bullet, but might be a reasonable guess for TOP-end prices.
Bottom-End prices is $80, if Demand flops for no clearly discernable reason. Demand for the Legends box was..weak. Even though demand for the individual cards in it was not that weak. I keep expecting Vault Ulamog's price to skyrocket and make that Vault cost similar to other Vaults....only time will tell. Realistically, $99 is the Bottom price I'd expect, but $125 is already pushing the upper limits of what careful, patient online price-watchers should actually fork up. That's if it contains more than 1 card worth $35 all on its own, DESPITE being 30% larger set for about only '1 good card' extra MSRP.

Everyone is speculating what the artwork on the article page could be, but no one is talking about the image on the Daily MTG home page that is used to announce the article.
Looks like an old artwork that could have been used on the original card.
Could this possibly be a clue to anything and does anyone know what this is from?

That? It's a card from SoA. I think it's used to summon Godsire, but I could be wrong. it's been a while.
I really hate Wizards adding the $39.99 whatever MSRP on these announcements. They're not stupid and they know that's not what it's going to be sold to us for.
I literally just reserved one for $39.99. Some stores may jack it up, but try your local stores, not all of them are out to gouge prices.
This makes me glad that Astral Slide beat out Goblins during Odyssey-Scourge standard...no new Goblin Piledrivers here.
Arcbound Ravager is a lot more likely (if it is not in Modern Masters), and I wouldn't be surprised with something like Flametounge Kavu showed up in the set just to screw with our heads (beloved but entirely unplayable today).

Next possible deck: D&T, but that just wouldn't be right.
Modern: R Goblins (work in progress)
Standard: I only care about standard when Goblins is a deck.
Limited: I only care about limited when Goblins are in the set.
as an interesting bit of trivia, Dragon's Herald, a goblin shaman, was the first Herald of Shards of Alara used to make a Big Huge Announcement- for From the Vault: Dragons, which pre-printed Hellkite Overlord.
Since then, Behemoth's Herald, Dragon's Herald, and Sphinx's Herald have been used on a lot of Vault, Multiplayer, Pre-Con Decks, and other important Release Announcements. Angel's Herad and Demon's Herald I think have been used the least, and Dragon's Herald and Behemoth's Herald, since they look the most like 'Heralds' (a big wild trumpet, and a large open space for something to appear in in front of the Goblin), have been used the most.
Watch for these Shards of Alara sidekicks of MTG marketing in future announcements! (I hope the next one is an Announcement about Modern Masters)
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.
When I saw the artwork on the annoucing page I immediatley thought Counterspell because the orignal art resembles the same hand jesture as in this artwork, if it isn't Counterspell then it must be Force of Will, I doubt this set will have any power 9 cards in at all, if they did then I am sure the RRP wouldn't be $39.99, I am hopeful that WoTC do put some "value" in this set as the last FTV I would of considered investing in was "realms".
Why would they care. Asides from people attending their modern and legacy events they get 0 dollars from the secondary market. And MSRP isn't the price stores have to set its the suggested price.
If they put this much value into the product, good luck getting your hands on it for less than $200. Stores would just crack it for singles. This is especially true of Grim Tutor, which isn't even an excessively powerful card (it's mainly just rare).
Aha, well done Wizards. You spoil an art that indicates it could be Mom or Fow so people go along and speculate, which creates anticipation, etc.
Apart from the obvious luxury and exclusivity statements, those products are generally worthless in terms of game value, so I'm more curious to see what cards they chose as relevant for an anthology pack but certainly won't chase one.
It's so obvious by the white, green and blue colors that this is a human bant card.
The skull on the back is part of the background to make it more interesting.
I wouldnt even need to know whats inside, I would simply buy it if I would have the option of pre-ordering it at the MRSP..sadly I will not. FTV's were never a troll product. Good news is, it will be highly likely to get the cards as singles for good prices once the product will be ripped from packs and sold @ MKM, etc. Thats pretty much what I did with the Relics, Exiled. Forfeited the money card, picked up singles.
Already dislike the smug looking lady. BTW she doesn't just emit blue lines from fingers, she also has glowing blue eyes. I'd say this is Stasis. Would cry if this is new Force.
Edit: would probably finally buy originals instead of crying, but still. Hopefully this means other chase cards, if any is present, retain original art and would just be too recognisable to put in announcement.
