1. Pithing Needle sees little to no play, and none at all maindeck.
2. If you play it right, creature removal does exactly squat.
3. There are very few playable enchantment removal spells in standard, and even fewer playable enchantments to make people play enchantment removal in the first place.
4. Since it can't target players and isn't really efficient, Skullcrack will likely see play in exactly one deck (Mono red burn), assuming said deck even exists, which isn't all that likely.
5. Slaughter Games isn't a good card, and B/R decks tend to be aggro, making it even worse. 4 mana to not affect life totals or the board state? Umm.. No.
6. Guildmage doesn't tap, so it doesn't need to survive a turn.
7. Nothing works if you're deck. That's not really an argument.
8. If they can kill you in response, they should have killed you there turn about 99% of the time. See 7.
I'm not saying this'll actually be good. But the reasons you state are just silly.
Skullcrack can only target players, so I don't know if you misread Skullcrack or if you wrote the wrong thing.
Use Duress, Appetite for Brains, etc. to preemptively protect the combo. Removal & sweepers to stay in the game long enough to pull off the combo. Splash blue for counters & card draw.
Amazing! I love this Guildmage! Doesn't pump out permanents, but it does have amazing synergy with a variety of creatures and effects in the format that could push it over the top. Also, this guy is funny with Spark Trooper.
Erm...... I don't know what to say about this... The first effect is rather meh, and only useful if combined with the second one. And the second one takes out 3 mana from your otherwise-available mana for Extort, which this card helps greatly. Depending on whether we have enough cheap life gains, this guy may or may not work.
And I'm a bit surprised that the name is Vizkopa Guildmage. Whatever happened to Orzhova the church?

Too close to Orzhov guildmage. So they are using Vizkopa, which is the name of the Central Ravnica Bank, which is run by the Orzhov. Also Serpos, there is quite a few ways to go about making a "Bleeder" deck with Orzhov that just so happens to use the Guildmage AND the enchantment independently, and just so happen to have the ability to wombo combo out of nowhere.
Like the modern combo with mindcrank and the other guildmage, this combo dodges creature removal at instant speed. You can activate his ability when he enters the battlefield without passing priority, and it doesn't matter if they kill him if you can deal 1 damage or gain 1 life later in the turn. Unfortunately, it does not combo with Extort easily, because you can't extort off the guildmage to any effect. You need something like the seraph sanctuary mentioned earlier.
By all rights, this is the exact same infinite win combo as the other guildmage, except this one is in standard, the second piece is a 4B enchantment instead of 2 artifact, and the conditions are "Gain 1 life or deal 1 damage" instead of "A card reaches your opponents graveyard or deal 1 damage". It is a significantly weaker combo, but perhaps an easier condition and more than anything, a combo in standard is worth more than one in modern, where it competes with scapeshift.

Hive Mind is not viable in Modern, because its success is based on Show and Tell with Force of Will as backup, and it combos with several zero-cost spells, not a 2-mana creature with a 3-mana activated ability (that also requires you to do something else to activate your "combo").
But on topic, yeah, this guildmage is just miserable and will never do anything outside of limited. 3 mana for this sort of effect is just way too much.

Wait so i get to play a stupid stax deck with blind obedience/the swamp doubler/this/blood and randomly win games as well as trolling every opponent ever?....Sounds intriguing....Do tell me more...oh yeah i get a board wipe thats a bit better then terminus at the same cost...you don't say....oh i get to play tutors, and obzedat, oh my...wonder whats next :)...lol
Deck is gonna be hilarious probably not good but probably better by far then the UB mill random win with dimir guildmage. Considering there is enough cards to actually support the deck and have it not auto lose to aggro...
I wasn't aware that winning 4 matches on MTGO made a deck viable. I'll believe it when it's winning real events.
I'm really hoping people see this as viable. I love free wins.
In a standard environment where Angel of Glory's Rise.deck is winning big events, I really would not be surprised to see a deck with this combo come out and win things.
You also shouldn't be surprised when people get excited about speculation. How dare they get excited about a jank combo! You've gotta put them in their place, dude.

Comparing Angel of Glory's Rise to this is pretty fallacious. If you consider that a combo, you can legitimately call "lots of creatures + Hellrider" a combo.
Also, witness my surprise and rage at people on MTGS being excited about bad cards and "combos." I am so surprised and angry. Woooooooo.

serpos it wins from reanimating/playing 1 card most of the time the other cards just help it win, look at rituals/cantrips in storm etc etc,...and has other combos in the deck with peddler+staticaster...how is that not a combo deck what does it take to be a combo deck in your mind? Is omnidoor not a combo deck either? Is doosmday not a combo deck as well since sometimes they have to doomsday and then win the next turn due to certain boardstates/cards in hand?
What are you on right now because you should be out partying/sharing instead of posting on these forums...
Not good. At all. For 6 mana, it combos with itself. Uh-oh. This will shred intro-pack mirror matches to pieces.

What you are about to read the absolute truth about the deck that once nearly killed WotC's revenue.

Stop being asinine. You need to take your condescending troll self off somewhere else.
Splinter twin was a pretty ludicrous seeming idea when it happened, then someone put the deck together. Lifegain strategies have sometimes been relevant and a lifegain based deck that also contains a two card combo is not completely outside the realm of possibility.

The most often misspelled word on these forums is ROGUE. Let me clarify, ROUGE, is something your mother puts on her face to keep her looking pretty. ROGUE is the word you're looking for.

It stops you from gaining life, so you can't instagib them
True, but what he said was incorrect. I would love it if it could hit creatures even if it was only creatures.
That's a nice Thragtusk etb trigger you got there... Skullcrack.
So by "****ing bonkers" you mean "completely unplayable outside of Limited?
This is easily the worst guildmage, and maybe worse than just a 2/2 lifelink.
Lifelink is not worth 3 mana. And I'd love to know how the 2nd ability will ever do anything relevant.

the guildmages from gatecrash seem much more standard-friendly than those from RtR.
this with thragtusk sphinx's revelation rhox faithminder and some other gems....could get bonkers.
still sad this isnt the new teysa since the arts so...kinda similar, but still.
