Ghost Council is good but I'm not sure if any deck in standard can put it and play it with happiness. You know, you can't ignore that it is a 5/5 for 5 that drains opponent's life, but I'm not sure if it fits in decks that employ WB.
Also, I just won 2 cents worth of M12 basic lands for calling the Keyrune correctly, but, I guess everyone in here did it, by the way. The card is interesting too, by the way.
And Lazav, well, it shouted me "Hey, mill the deck and make me a Gisela or a Tusk or anything bomb". I'm already expecting to see this happening in my FNMs. Poor me, miss this guy so bad.

Nothing. All I want is Heroes vs. Monsters spoilers.
Obzedat is pretty terrible. A five mana creature at the very least needs to be able to block or else you're just Timewalking your opponent. You're almost never going to be exiling him.
Even though it would hardly seem like a good card these days ("damage on the stack" went away and overall power creep), Ghost Council of Orzhova is still a straight up better card.
Right, right. Cause paying an extra mana and sacing every time you use his ability is just soooo much better then paying 5 once and being done with it. That is sooo much better.

There is buried treasure everywhere...in a graveyard.
Love both cards, and already planned on running something similar to what Gavin suggests in his article with Restos and Geralfs. Love it!!! Can't wait to see more cards from each guild!
Okay, I'll admit, Orzhov was the guild I was least excited about (WB being my least favorite 2-color combination and all), but I am REALLY liking Obzedat. Granted, this has the makings of a very much constructed-playable card, which in combination with it being a Mythic will make it difficult for me to get my hands on (the woes of being an extreme budget player ), but thus far, there is no Mythic I would rather open in this set (okay, MAYBE Domri Rade and Hellkite Tyrant. MAYBE). Very good card, and I see it being VERY popular in Standard, and maybe EDH and even Modern as well.
Lazav is also very exciting! I think it has an incredibly balanced design, in that I am of the belief that it appeals to Timmy, Johnny, and Spike just about equally (Johnnies and Spikes feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Considering that Dimir is another guild I was less than super-excited about, this guy and Cipher (and the Keyrune, for that matter) have really impressed me.
I can only hope that Zegana is anywhere near as solid as these two...

Someday, I will own all of the dragons. All of them. 43/111, approximately 39% complete. Over a third done.
(calling it now; there will be a cycle of Legendary dual lands with Basic Land types in Theros block)
... AAAAAAAAND I was wrong
Do you people in realize how Lazav could be used for reanimator, as well as UB control in general? This is a huge game-changer, the ghost council is just another 5-drop win-con.

Lazav only work for creatures in the opp's graveyard. It also has no CIP abilities so no Angel of Serenity

aah, that makes more sense and is much less overpowered than I originally thought.
Lazav still has applications in UB control, especially with the right cards (thought scour your opponent instead of yourself, plenty of removal in black, etc.)
Am I the only one who is totally disappointed in Dimir Mastermind, since it dosnt support the Cipher mechanic at all and every other Legendary leader in Gatecrash does with their mechanis?
Im really hyped about Cipher but atm its really boring imo
Say, in the mirror, it will be funny as both players can play their own ghost dad and blink him around their turns xD.
Unlike most legendary creatures, the Ghost Council is not opposed to working for both sides, as long as the dough... err, life totals keep circulating.

How do Borb, Aurelia and Obzedat support Cipher? Or rather, why should they?

I didn't realize this until just now. Each person could play a ghost council and get around the "legend rule" by having them blink out before the other one comes in.
The flavor on this amuses me immensely, since Orzhov is the color of playing both sides. I wonder if they designed that on purpose?
Well, times have changed. Alot. Makes me feel old. I remember when a plain ol 5/5 for 5 was just dandy.
Thinking about Lazav more, he has the same problem as a lot of other creatures, he's good but he's no Geist of Saint Traft, and if you're going to play Lazav then why not just play the geist?
a) We haven't seen every legendary creature in Gatecrash. We are still missing Zegana.
b) I don't really see the complaint. Boborygmos Enraged does not interact with Bloodrush. Neither does Obszedat with Extort. Aurelia kind of works with Battallion, but that's about it.
c) In RTR it wasn't really much different. Isperia has nothing to do with Detain. In fact you could argue she has anti-synergy. Niv-Mizzet does not interact with Overload. Rakdos, Lord of Riots has no meaning to creatures with Unleash. Jarad only works with Scavange if you consider his sacrifice ability an outlet for it. The only exception is Trostani, who benefits from and uses Populate.
Guild leaders don't have to work with the guild keyword they just need to work with the guild.
Obszdat extorts twice every upkeep. Just beacuse he doesn't have extort ont he card doesn't mean he doesn't work with extort. Aurelia gives you an extra combat phase which mean extra battalion triggers. Borg doesn't really work with his guild tbh but lazav works with the dimir subtheme from City of Guilds of mill.
So, you play Tostani, next turn play ghost council and gain 5 life a turn while dealing 2 damage a turn until some breaks up the combo, seems decent...

At least Boborygmos Enraged does interact with creatures whos Bloodrush is about lands. It gives lands to you everytime it deals combat dmg, that you either can give 3 dmg with or use for the Bloodrush mechanic with Rubblehulk for instance
The Ghost Council support Extort very good since you can trigger the mechanic everytime Ghost Council comes back from exile
Aurelia also works really well with Battalion since she gives your Battalion creatures and extra combat phase

I agree on the other leaders from RTR tho
ghost council does NOT trigger extortion when it comes back from its ability.

The only instant speed removal that really hits it are Murder and Selesnya charm and only one of those cards is actually played at the moment. At least until the rest of the set is spoiled that is.
Aurelia does get synergy with battalion though. Attacking twice gives you more battalion triggers. Nothing that directly mentions battalion of course, but attacking twice helps when a triggered ability triggers on attack.

Yes. Cipher stops checking if the creature is a creature once the spell has resolved. After that it only cares if it's done combat damage.
So, the keyrune DOES work with cipher, and that's probably why it got unblockable.

The Attention Deficit Guy URGU
a. pay 6 for a 5/5 flyer with awkward recursion
or
b. pay 5 for all THAT?!?!

Don't forget Urgent Exorcism.
Why not? you cast it from Exile which counts as a spell I assume?
from what I understand you're not "casting" the ghost council when it returns from exile, it merely returns from exile (with haste).
