Maybe it's not that they should be building the FNM promos around what we're playing, but we should be playing based around what the FNM promos are. Maybe we're the ones doing it wrong.
Haha! Quoted for truth.
If the FFL thinks it's busted, it probably is.
Time to stock up on Glistener Elf. If The Prophets Have Spoken, then I shall (g)listen.
In other news, I ate an entire rotisserie chicken today, by myself, in celebration of veganism.
This year has been some hot garbage for FNM promos. They might as well print some sweet EDH cards that don't have foil version like Worldly/Mystical Tutor or Command Tower. Wouldn't this be a better idea than printing Standard junk that either nobody uses or is about to rotate out?
Maybe they should print lands as FNM promos? Everyone can use lands and in every format of the game
You joke but if Wizards printed some sweet full art lands as promos it would probably be some of the most sought after promos ever. Think foil Unhinged or Unglued lands. Makes me salivate just thinking about it.

I would definitely be OK with full art basic lands as FNM promos. I still never use anything but full art lands for my IRL decks, so this would be sweet.
Speaking of FNM cards... did anyone else get an odd batch of Savage Lands??? Our copies are all jacked up where the printing doesnt line up on both sides so luckily it got cut correctly on the face side but on the back I am missing the bottom inch or so and I have an inch or so of the next card above it...
I thought it might just be mine but the whole batch of 4 that we opened last friday were like that. I should see if the rest of our sets are like that as well...

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Whether or not it worked does not validate the play. That's hindsight probability. Let's say I offered you a bet -- I'm going to flip a coin and if it's heads, I'll give you 1 dollar but if it's tails, you'll give me 2 dollars. This is obviously a terrible bet for you. Accepting it is a bad decision. You can't justify it afterwards by arguing that you won the flip, therefore you made the right decision.

Eh.. Maybe you're right, alot of people would go bananas for lands, but it doesn't sound that exciting for the casual player, I think cards like Glistener Elf are perfect
However.. That is just my opinion
But I do wonder what everyone would be pleased by that is not too good nor too bad.. Any ideas?
Has anyone considered the fact that Wizards, as a company, orders art almost 6 months in advance? The January FNM card was probably commisioned back in June or July at best, before Innistrad had even been previewed. Not to mention it is a different part of the company that does promos than designs the sets. Most likely it is someone above MaRo and gang who gets given a list by the FFL crowd to be distributed sometime in the next year. And let's be serious. If they printed an excellant, tournement staple promo, how many copies could you afford?

and has anyone else considered that maybe a lot of these promos are rejected art for the sets the cards are originally printed in that would work outside of it so they get printed as fnm promos?
either way, this thing does not entice me to play at fnm any more than normal, which is rarely.

Not a completely terribad one as we've seen worse this year, but surely will be a very cheap one.
At least it has seen some play in various formats, even Legacy, and still has potential for more (as opposed to say Savage Lands which have no hope anywhere).
Lets hope it's the worst one of 2012.
At least the first one looked like a compleated Elf.
The flavor of FNM promos doesn't always match the flavor of the set it was originally in.
The FNM of Isochron Scepter doesn't look like it would belong in Mirrodin, the FNM of Merrow Reejerey is Shadowmoor, even though it was printed in Lorwyn, Watchwolf is in a village, rather than the totally urban environment of Ravnica. Mulldrifter doesn't look very Lorwyn-ish either.
I don't think that infect as a creature ability necessarily has to be concepted as being due to Phyrexian infection (a creature could be an infecter without being infected).
Don't care, I don't don't play foils in my decks anyway, they curl and screw it up for me when playing and my opponent cuts to a curled foil when that is not what I want to top deck at that moment...to much money to foil out a whole deck...just another shiny for the trophy book.
Look at all the great promos that were printed before. Remand, Cabal Coffers, Eternal Witness, Isochron Sceptor, Lightning Greaves. We something good to be printed again.
... Cryptic Command
I can't even think of the last time I saw a good FNM promo... Maybe squadron hawk.... I don't understand how they decided to print bloodcrazed neonate or curse of the bloody tome or diregraf ghoul as promos... The card are all very, very bad, so much so that they'll never even fit into a casual or EDH deck. Glistener Elf is yet another in this line of super disappointing prints.
It's ironic, I've heard that TOs aren't supposed to allow late FNM entries because apparently people were going from "store to store, registering for FNM JUST to get promo cards". I find that unlikely.

Cryptic Command was a MPR promo, not a FNM one. Bloodcrazed Neonate and Curse of the Bloody Tome are Gateway promos, and Gateway cards are always terrible(remember Golem's Heart or Circle of Flame). Neonate may even be playable if more vampire support is printed. Diregraf Ghoul is a game day promo and is just good.
Now back on the topic. I for one don't see why Glistener elf is bad. He is playable somewhere in tier 2-3, he is in T2 now and isn't rotating next month, like some other promos (:
Im not a fan of Wizards' "FNM promo choice system" as a whole, but this one i can understand.

they don't know how to play magic well
Glistener Elf is a very playable card though. It's the star player in Pauper's infect deck.

Eh, nothing wrong with the Plague Stinger, no?
If they're gonna do more infect creatures as promos, maybe a Chained Throatseeker or a Blighted Agent isn't too far off?
